For instance, if a ship has all kinds of Shields, Armor and ECM, but no weapons, it has no way to retaliate against an attacker. Given time, an attacking ship with just one puny Laser should eventually be able to wear them down and destroy them. At the very least, it should end in a draw if the attacker has really inferior weapons, but should n

I still don't think it would add any extra work load for the player. In GC1 a colony with poor morale (on the way to rebellion) had a red unhappy face icon by it on the main screen. You would a similar icon under this system, and when you see it you can go to the colony view to see just how bad it is. In GC1 you got 1 or 2 low morale warnings then your colony would flip, it's up to you to keep an eye on the colonies which are at risk. This was rarely more than 2

I hate to say this, but it looks like the conversation in this thread is going to shift this concept into micromanagement. Actually I dont think anyone has suggested anything that the player has to actually do. All this simply shows a planet slipping into anarchy and becoming less productive as planetary improvements

I know this is going WAY back, but does anyone remember in MOO1 (yes, I said WAY back!) where production redirect destination lines had an effect that showed what direction the line (arrow) was travelling. It was sort of a two-tone dashed line that appeared to "move" from source to destination on the line. Is there any inexpensive way to reprod

Goblin, I think the point you are missing is that someone has to sit down and design each building for each race and then do the artwork. It simply takes more time than stardock can afford to put into it. Frogboy says it would cost as much as the entire custom ship design feature, and its far less important. I do wonder about giving each race its own building files so they could be later modded, instead of all races refering to the same file. Of co

The problem I've just realised is that it would be that a spaced out planet would never fall to rebels. Therefore I think that every improvement should be linked to every other in a transportation network, so rebels could potentially take tiles on the other side of the planet if there's nothing in the way. I had kind of assumed that was what

Even if we had 3 artists, working 7 days per week, pumping out 2 per day, it'd still take 4 months to complete! *Ahem* DOH! Can't argue with that one, no matter how much I'd love to. But here's a thought, we know GC2 will be heavily moddable, will it be possible (and relatively straight forward) for modders to crea

(Ugleb loads GC2 and considers) Hmm. If I take an angle with just a black starfield visible, it looks kinda sparse. I think I'd get bored staring at alot of black with the odd object hanging in space. I can see your point though, some of the brighter nebulae can distract from the game objects. I don't know how it will look once ship models have textures on them though, they might stand out better then. I suppose the answer might be to darken the background slightly to make

Oh boy, did I ever get flamed! Heh, forum etiquette 101. Flamed: "you dumb noob stfu!" Constructive criticism: "I disagree, here's why...." Discussing the game is what we're here for, well done for bringing it up. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmi

I think I order ship movement more than I rotate the map tbh, so I wouldn't change it. Also, the mouse wheel zooms as well as rotates the map, so both camera controls are tied to the same button. If clicking the wheel controlled ship movement while scrolling it zoomed you could accidentally zoom or give an order, now that would be frustrating!

One thing in these "space empire" games was never clear to me - what (as the human player) am I? A politial leader? A supreme emperor? A mysterious behind-the-scenes leader who is secretly pulling the strings? This is the great fuzzy detail. You are one of several posibilities. 1) You are the head of an imperial

So, if I keep my current moniter, does it mean I have to scroll back and forth over and over again, or can I see it all without touching the keyboard? You will see it all at once, but it might appear a little small.

EA? Are you mad? They're a pack of blood sucking parasites! They're also a publisher, not a developer. They simply own a legion of developer companies and tell them they can't do anything remotely risky as it might lose them a few sales.

Strategy First somehow got away with not paying Stardock anything for the retail sales of GC1. I doubt it was legal, and I might have heard something about Strategy First going belly up? Not sure, but Stardock lost out on that one. I think that incident is just one more reason why Stardock are developing SDC so much. You can't get exploited by a publisher if you don't use one. I'd much rather give my money to the developers than some middle man.

I'm glad you guys like it. It' was a tough TOUGH call. An expensive one arguably too. But we felt that we wanted to err on the side of our customers as much as we could. Ugleb pictures Brad trying to calm down his accountant after suggesting the idea Nice. <img src="http://images.sta

Indeed and if you like the inserctoid race leader would most likely be female if they follow normal hive culture like teran insects Excellent point. From now on the insectoid species (Krath?) leader shall hereby be reffered to as 'she'. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/smiles/Ew.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmiddl
