in your empire, you'll be faced with the dilemma of concentrating your forces around these key worlds to protect the shipyards or spreading your fleet out to protect planets in more immediate danger.
"what you got" has just been utterly rebuffed by Stardock staff. Chuck it in the spam folder. As gal civ 2 hasn't gone into beta testing yet, Gal Civ 3 could be a long wait!
GC is effectively Moo 2.5 IMO. And its a much better game than Moo3. As newfy said, the most obvious thing missing is the ability to design your own ships, but that's in development for GCII I think. GC focuses a bit more on the political/culture develoment side of empire building than Moo2 did, which is probably why it lacks things like custom ship design and a separate battle screen (not that I particularly miss Moo2's clunky combat maps). The focus is slightly different but they
I just got around to playing AP properly, and am now using/encountering the new ships. Those goody two shoes Sovereigns are kicking my teeth in. :sniff!: AP does add alot to the game, two more major races makes quite a difference to the larger maps. And it does feel like going good or evil has an impact now.
2 it would be funny to play with several human on the same game, imagine 3 human against 3 AI, on a turn by turn system 3 a multiplayer sytem by net, would be funny too
Turn based strategy games don't really lend themselves to multiplayer unfortunately. They're just so slow! Your point 2 was done by Moo2, but it wasn't all that great, I played it once against my brother I think. :notsure:
It sounds more like a bug than a feature to me.
Turn based straegy games are a niche market, in the genres prime they weren't exactly mainstream. The real exception to this is the Total War series, which is given a huge image boost due to its strategic battles. Gal Civ was never going to cause a storm, regardless of what the reviewers said. Maybe Altarian prophecy will help to boost the games profile a bit.
In the next version it would be cool if they reappeared more often so there were always at least some to explore. Usually by the time I get to rangers there are no anomalies left.
I find the same thing. I've never actually felt the need to build a ranger, as by the time I get to them the galaxy has been thoroughly explored.
A small question Frogboy:Why these "better have" features weren't in Galciv?
If developers took the time to get a game exactly how they wanted it before releasing it, nothing would ever get finished. Frogboy's first 5 points all build upon the original game, or change the parts that have proven to be unsuccessful. Point six I'm not clear on, it sounds like the political parties to me too!
I was just wondering that myself :notsure:
One thing which would be cool would be to be able to define in diplomacy screen zones where you forbid race X to enter otherwise it will be war. So the ai could tell you not to put a constructor nearby and the autoship would have an option to go around these zones.
Two ways of doing this to my mind. The first is to erect 'no-fly zones', which I think is what you are refering to. So you can forbid access to specific sectors, right? The other way to do it would b
Toroidal galaxies would be interesting. For the less topographically minded in a toroidal galazy there would be no edges, going off the right side would take you to the left, and the top would take you to the bottom and vice-versa, so no more corner starts!
That would give me a headache I think. But I would like to see a feature where you can choose the formation of the galaxy, be it spiral, ring, cluster and so on. Other games such as Birth of the federation
13.The option to have your ship explore unknown regions [if that isnt already there]
What do you mean exactly? An "auto-explore" setting like auto-attack or sector sweep? Or something else?
1.Space Terrain 2.Fleet Battles 3.Ship Design 4.3D engine 5.More sophisticated Colony Management 6.Multiplayer I want to see more done with the map. At present the galaxy is pretty featureless, the only strategic points being the position of colonies. A few nebulae or blackholes could add a bit of colour and a whole new strategic element. I've bumped up fleet battles as I think that the current combat system is too basic. I like a bit of finesse in my com
As Imperium Galactica 3 is in late development, and has a much larger budget than I think Stardock can afford, Gal Civ II should probably avoid drawing too close to the imp gal formula.
(1) Electronic distribution. I'd buy more games if I could just go to theirsite, press a button and have it. The Rise of Nations expansion is out, when will I have time to haul my lazy butt up to Best Buy or whatever and purchase it? I'd buy it right this second if I could go and download it.
This is coming. Developers Valve (the people who made Half Life) have been developing a 'content delivery system' called STEAM, which is going live soon I believe, if it isn't
Found it, on the front page. "Monday, May 03, 2004 - Stardock Game Relesae Schedule Come July, we expect to begin preliminary work on two new games. One is an unannounced title which we'll announce this Summer and the other is Galactic Civilizations II which won't be ready until mid to late 2005." So there you go. ;) ;)
I read something official somewhere stating that stardock want to begin work on Gal Civ II in the near future. This isn't all just wishful thinking.
I would love to do an isometric RPG like Baldur's Gate II someday. But I'm looking forward to doing Gal Civ 2.
*COUGH* Fallout 3 *COUGH* Nah, I know the cost of the licence would be scary, even though I would love to see it. But seriously, gamers need another Fallout style RPG, with much wandering as you please without the need to stick to a tighly prescribed plot line. Sub-quests are the key... So get Altarian Prophecy tidied up, work some magic
Was just browsing another thread and happened across this: #12 by Citizen Bromoser - 5/7/2004 7:14:42 PM Yes, go to "SDCentral" folder in Stardock folder. Hit "Restore" program and it will reload/setup Stardock followed by automatic update if internet connection is ON. Do that, and all shall be right in the world once more ;) Nice tip Bromoser, thanks.
Something that bugged me with gal civ was scale. Planets just looked a little large to me, as it gives the impression that ships are hue or stars are really close together. Just to clarify, I AM aware that gal civ is NOT to scale. I just think its visually a little unbalanced. I'd also like to see a little more 'colour' in the game. I always liked the way that Moo2 would show your researchers presenting the latest technology breakthrough, rather than just being presented wit
Hmm. When I try to load up stardock, it automatically tries to update. It gets to the third file download, then crashes. Every time. If I cancel the update, it loads up normally. I then tried to manually update it, and it crashed. Any ideas?
