AltMeta ignores anyone with 0 games posted Thanks, Kryo. I have a followup question about the offical Metaverse. Does the system that displays medals here on the galciv2.com forum ignore posted scores that are flagged with as cheats? I'm asking b/c I've done a little searching that left me with the impression that a 50-game medal might be based on 42 cheats and 8 fair games, etc.

The mouth is actually full of bacteria and that is a scientific fact beyond dispute. Indeed. It's this notion of a "fact beyond dispute" that separates folks (lay or pro) who are serious about science from folks who want to claim that science is "just like" religion. I believe that scientific research is inevitably influenced by subjective factors, including the irrational aspects of a given scientific practitioner's belief system. But,
I've still not done much by way of giving or selling ships (at least in part b/c the UI is tedious for the tasks). But in my current game, I've finally thought about giving some ships to a weak ally to raise their military rating and hopefully fend off some possible attackers. After giving away a small fleet, I suddenly asked myself the question in the subject line. <img src="http://altmeta2.thegalacticcore.com/ranksig.php?id=12279&style=1&
I really like Swicord's alignment suggestion for removing agents too. That was Voqar's neat idea; I just seconded it
(good) Ask the spy nicely if he'll reveal his origin, then let him go with a slap on the wrist (+5% diplo bonus, no chance of discovering who sent the spy) (neutral) Slap the spy around a little then throw him in jail forever (+0 diplo bonus, 25% chance of discovering who sent the spy) (evil) Use any means necessary to pry out the origin of the spy, then send his remains back to his home world in seperate packages (-5% diplo penalty, 75% of discovering who sent
Mistralok, Evil, I still don't see characters for you in the EoS at AltMeta . (Edit: I'm still a real newb at this "system" so you might be registered and it might be "normal" not to see you at AltMeta until after you post a game.) You can set up your characters before you're ready to post a game. Showing growth (you'd make it 100% for "the quarter!") might help draw in others. The MVC folks are also talking about emai
Subject line pretty much says it all. Caveat: my vid card is sub-spec, I work the frak out of my swap file, could just be my problem. Alas, I stopped running SmartException after I finished my last beta game.
Won't this prevent the collection of intelligence? For those of us who believe intelligence and sabotage are fundamentally different, unmodified DA also prevents intel collection, at least as a goal in its own right. Currently, there is no way to build a "file" about an AI unless you want to do at least moderate damage to them. I look forward to Stardock polling about what changes/additions people want most for the first major update to DA. I s
To me, however, schlock implies camp I freely admit that schlock can be an eye-of-the-beholder thing and depends on the show elements that most often catch your attention. I have a friend who abandons a show pretty much the first time he spots a major continuity or plot logic violation. I tend to be forgiving about that stuff, to a point, but balk hard at regular awkward dialog and often develop serious aversions to actors like Bruce Box-whatsis. <br
I've taught a bit of community college political science, and I have to basically agree with Feud and Prince of Crows. But if I'd ever been confident most of my students read and thought about their course syllabi, I might have included a PC Game section in the Optional Reading list, and GCII would have been high on the list. While GCII certainly has no direct value in helping a student pass a basic poli sci or econ class, playing the game could help students who are starting
Is there a way to get the spies to work in a non-destructive manner? I'm pretty sure the answer is "No." Harrumph.
actually everyone that believes that life was an accident is saying just that I'm back to asking for more complete thoughts regardless of grammar & spelling. What is "that" here?
life is not an accident There we go. A decent point for metaphysical differentiation. I'm "a religious nut" even if I'm no theist, but that's in part because I *believe* life arose through chance. The Fundamental 50-50 Bet is Existance vs. Non-existance. We won the bet, which seems to be something worth a fair amount of thought...
i was talking about looks I believe most people would think you were talking about more than just looks when you said "what i mean is that the aztecs and mayans turned a stock of wheat into an ear of corn." I surely appreciate your impulse to try to make people think, but why not simply ask questions?
i wish you would ask for specifics before calling me a lier what i mean is that the aztecs and mayans turned a stock of wheat into an ear of corn I didn't call you a liar, I just claimed you have your facts wrong. As I believe you do here. Corn (maize) is not at all closely related to wheat. Illustrations of possible wild ancestors of domesticated maize could look a bit like wheat to some folks, but the chemistry is very different. <di
Difficulty >= Tough. Maps As a good citizen of an anti-imperialist empire, I must half-agree. Maps The AIs don't really have room to unfold and get into interesting trouble amongst themselves unless you have at least a Large map. Plus, longer games give more opportunities for random events, which are sometimes much big fun, unless they, well, kill the game for a g
I should be posting my first game tonight or tomorrow. What, did real life get in the way of wasting time at your PC? We still only have 4 games posted, and I'm getting a little worried that the large chunk of time I've put into my first DL Metaverse game might go awry because I've stumbled across a possible bug re confusion between building a "custom" em
Check your custom race's file and see if there are any remaining references to them as the Thalans in it. I've got (ShortEmpireName)Thalan(/ShortEmpireName), Thalans still in the Description, (DialogueTag)Thalan(/DialogueTag), and (ShipStyle)Thalan Empire Style(/ShipStyle). But those just look like the "normal" bugs I've long seen where my attempt to change my empire name was only partly successful. This weird diplo thing suggests to me that th
the same goes for any of the other so called homo species danielost, I really wish you'd try for more complete thoughts in your posts. I thought you were a creationist of some sort, but sometimes you seem to try arguing pop science about evolution as if you value "mainstream" science. I have little doubt that if we have any biologists reading this wildly long thread, they are pretty vexed by our layfolks abuse of their formal language and resear
Neanderthals are not an ancestor of Homo sapiens sapiens. They were a related species in the hominid family. Cro-Magnon is a term used to describe the earliest modern humans in Europe, and since I'm of European descent, they are probably among my ancestors.
Don't confuse evolving standards for taxonomy (formal naming in biology) with changing "facts," and don't confuse the rise of "civilization" with the evolution of our species. The fossil record shows that anatomically modern humans first appeared about 200,000 years ago. The agricultural revolution was about 10,000 years ago.
There was two movies? The book is much better than the first movie. The sequel is unwatchable for me, but schlock tolerance varies widely--I can't watch Babylon 5, but I can stomach Stargate SG-1.
I'd imagine that since you changed the name, it got saved as a different .customracexml, so the game doesn't "know" it's the Thalans anymore This made sense when I first read it, but yesterday I had a diplo message from the Torians that said: " The Thalan have always been friends to our people. The Swarm is gradually destroying our civilization. We plead for any help..." (emphasis added) The Swarm is the name I use when playing as t
Any info on what this is for and whether we should postpone updating until we finish our current games?
I like the spy units from the start, but I remain unhappy that we no longer have a way to just gather intelligence without harming the AI we target. I'm trying to adapt, though. I'm in the early mid-game on a huge map, I have a dozen spies on deck, and I've given up on trying to finesse the DL-style intel out of the new DA system without harming friends and/or losing those pricy units. Mistralok's story about crippling the enemy economy points out that we have a neat new toy e
