I like very complicated (big) games too. I'm pretty sure one reason they set the limit at ten major factions is UI-based (color-coding, drawing the Treaties tab on the Foreign Policy page). But the AI coding might be the more important factor--perhaps there's an analog to "the speed problem" that means higher numbers of "other players" make a given AI's job significantly harder.

It's a different game on the higher levels. I think one main reason I've stayed at Tough is that I don't want to "ruin the romance." GCII is the first 4X game I've played where the AI was a challenge for me without needing any bonuses. I can beat the game on Tough pretty regularly, but by no means on every map I generate.

is 'pooee' even a word?? Depends on who you choose as a language authority, but mostly "no." If you believe in license for neologisms (new words), you were talking about the "pooper" (need consonant to avoid vowel confusion). That's "one who poops." A "pooee" is someone who somehow receives poo, as in being pooped on. BTW, I normally use either s*&t or get clinical and talk about feces, etc. This poo talk is a hoot--fun with censorship

ignore what you took as 'aimed at you/flame intention' type talk. No worries, Evil. I didn't feel personally attacked at all, just a bit self-conscious on account of having joined the EoS before I joined the MVC. As long as the empire's core goal is a good time to be had by all, I'm likely to stay around. But I'm not likely to get another game in that soon. I've got what I hope will be a decent Huge DA game going, still too timid to step up pas

What are your thoughts on the political process? Well, that was half-snarky talk aimed at you on account of your OP here seeming more like a call to a street brawl than an effort to build a Metaverse empire. But I'm still so new to all this that I'm barely aware that empires get ranked also. We're #41 over at the AltMeta, I think b/c the ranking there throws out scores over 6 months old while the "real" Metaverse depreciates them via quirky form

I'd like to know if the parties that gain or lose influence are determined randomely or if there is something more to it- doss the War party gain when war is wanted or more military by the people? I'm very curious about this also.

Well, lads, I was all for the Empire of Standards just on account of the name (I have a lot of Virgo in my chart). Plus, I've long been interested in finding more folks who play the game for reasons other than maxed-out scores. But this semi-manifesto in posts 1 & 2 leaves me wondering if I should go independent or get crazy and start the Empire of the Huddled Masses or something. I thought the Empire of Standards was about mocking the "scoring machines" by showing that score-scoffers

Thanks, Kryo. I guess my stats weakness is showing again. I've played at least 10 or 20 games following that basic setup pattern and this is the first time the Thalans came up in the random drawing. It suprised me, but I can imagine it might make good math sense.

"In the criminal law, theft (also known as stealing) is the illegal taking of another person's property without that person's freely-given consent." For example if I make a copy of my friends coffee cup (which he purchased) and use that copy to drink coffee, would I then be stealing from the original makers of the coffee cup according to the definition above? I think not. I agree with this, but alas the law does not. Currently, copyrighted softw

a chimp can laugh but only if a human tickles That depends entirely on how you define "laugh." This is yet another open question that is driving animal behavior research. The Wiki isn't a bad place to start. I hadn't ready anything like it before, but it seems like *rats* might also laugh <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Gasp.gif" border=0 align="absmid

It would be nice to be able to tweak race and hull colors (in friendlier fashion than editing an .xml file) on the fly in the game I like this idea, but I've run into theStormWeaver's problem every time I tried customizing. Kryo, et al , can I get a response about whether this is a known issue (By Design or on a to-fix list)? I have a save game if I've actually found something new.

To everyone in this thread that is either (a) an illiterate fraktard or (b) an illiterate fraktard apologist, you have no excuse: contemplate exiting any reality we might share by any means necessary. Welcome back. I see your hiatus didn't help improve your mood Or the precision of your snarky-talk <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Laugh

So comparing the starting empire to the final empire.... how many more times larger is it? and yet the economic penalty is the same? Hay, I was trying to be diplomatic. Being "OK" with something is not the same as *liking* it I'm on record sharing Purge's opionion that the limit should scale with your income. <a hr

Are you kidding??? i mean you must be joking rite? Or am i some freak with poor colour recognition abilities?? No, I'm not kidding (here), and I don't necessarily think you have colour vision problems. I've had a few DL maps where color "normal" color similiarties were a bit hard on my eyes (Korx vs. Iconian has always hurt for me). I posted b/c I thought it was pretty weird to see a map with the "Thalans" on it when I thought I was playing

Yes it does! few people would dissagree either. I balked hard when I first learned about this "feature," but I'm at least halfway a sympathizer now. Well, maybe a little less than halfway, but close for sure. Reasons I'm OK with the >20K treasury penalty: 1) Any human-style culture probably has limits on how much wealth elites can stash away before the producing classes create disorder. 2) Using your economic power actively can help keep you saf

By "normal," I assume you climate-talk folks mean "average." When you say "normal" you are ducking the real question, which is about your timeframe and the strength of your dataset. I think it is interesting to see how children react to various scary rides... some cannot wait to jump on, and then go again! others will stedfastly refuse to go on, and yet others will choose to go on as a result of peer pressure This is anecdotal evidence of what I

I'm about 18 months into a Gigantic map and I've encountered "the Thalans." But *I'm* the Thalans, or I thought I was. I started the game via Metaverse and chose Thalans during setup, but I renamed the empire, leader, and home world. I opted for 9 randomly-chosen rivals. I did *not* create a custom player species. I've done this for ages, even during beta I think, but don't recall ever playing against a default version of "myself." This situation makes the minimap pretty useles

Didn't the mod folks ask about some underlying "guts" (logging?) that would give a leg up to folks trying to build their own epics? Is that still in even though the UI part of the generator is gone?
