Sirian, I agree. I've only played two times so far, so I am not into the details of game mechanics and likelyhood of any events happening, etc. But the first game ever I played I got shattered, playing on "easy", trying to be good (I managed "neutral") and they came out of nowhere with enless supply of money and tech an blew me away. Just like that (they were the only ones with battleship technology... and *lots* of battleships, starting off with a dozen stolen planets... very f

Good point! Might very well be... I did research a whole lot of new military stuff at the end of the game... But spark just meaning "less than maximum" makes sense; just confused me because it seemed as if everything was *broken*. :SURPRISED: Thanks! :)
Last game, from one turn to another I noticed that my Survey Ship suddenly had these electrical sparks all over it. I found out that it had lost about 1/3 of it's HP from out of nowhere! Also, all of my ships on autopilot had vanished and all of my space stations had also 1/3 of their HPs lost and all of them were sparking! Can someone explain how this happened? Luckily, I was not engaged in any wars and I won the game a couple of turns later. Otherwise, this would have been devastating!
I agree to your view of things, but the fact remains that the same thing happend to my on my first game: all settings on "easy", wanting to play a peaceful, friendly game just for getting used to it, without using any force, but beeing culturally and ecomomically advanced, yet getting the ass busted from out out nowhere with outragious amounts of money and military on the other side. Doesn't sound like fun and wasn't. Game over. Sure, games shouldn't be flat or stupid, but I th
By the way.... I found this review: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/galacticcivilizations/reader_review.html?id=1444143 and although I don't think the Ai necessary "cheats" I absolutely agree with this user.
Thanks for all the good advice everybody - you are probably right, I just did not imagine that some - especially *minor* race - could actually be a threat. I envisioned a peaceful galaxy, I just couldn't imagine that they would attack me although I was friendly to everyone. At the most, I thought, they would stop attacking at some point. Or at least after they offered peace. But neither was the case. Until I realized that they would *actually, really, really* destroy me and everyone else no matt
Hi everybody, here are some unsorted questions which I have come across playing GC for a week now. Maybe this was explained in the manual, if so I have not found it: 1) How do ships regain hitpoints after being attacked? 2) How do starbases regain hitpoints after being attacked? 3) How much hitpoints does a planet have or how is the defense of a planet handled? 4) How do I defend a starbase? Just by putting spaceships "on top of them" in "guard" mode? 5) How can
I might have been neutral, although I *felt* good... well I guess you could also be a really bad guy and feel good too LOL Nevertheless, I feel that the Fundamentalists event is a real spoiler. Especially for an inexperienced player. :notsure: I already decided to abandon my first pittyful performance... CTRL-N ? A new game with the same inital settings or even with the same map but different starting location? Got to try it...
Alignment... darn: I WAS NOT EVIL! I was absolutely good, pacifistic, high on morale, everything, yet they distroyed everything I owned, all Starbases, all Starships, stole half of my planets, offered peace a couple of times and broke their own treaties afterwards... No way I could beat them military: they are overwhealming and stall me. No-one else wants to attack them either. They are higher in diplomacy, at 100% morale, built all Galactic Wonders... I tried bribing a
Well, I always selected "let my people live how they wish" or "Let's evacuate them", etc, always at the cost of losing money, never people's morale or even lives. I never had war with anyone, I was warm and friendly with all races, made presents, I have no idea how I could have been seen as evil! Also, that would mean, ALL other races are evil too, since the Fundamentalists are at war with ALL of them. So this can only be a mistake, a bug. Just like finding 100(!) spaceships. My
Hi erverybody. I played GC now for a couple of days and I have come into a difficult situation. I don't now if there's any point in playing the game any further if I could still win it. Also, I don't know how I could have avoided this situation to start with. Maybe you can help me? Here's the situation. I started with the settings large and common. I left the morale setting of the major races as they were but I set their intelligence to somewhat stupid. My plan was to play a *good* game
