Well, I had fun making bootskins until I heard they'd be charging for the premium version... But why shouldn't they be like everyone else and want money.. They deserve it I suppose.. Perhaps the well has become dry for now.. I think there are still some good wallpapers, but not as many. Most of them seem to be the same thing. Metallic shiny objects, WindowsXP related wallpapers, or Sunrise/Lake/Mountain wallpapers.. If I want a wallpaper bad enough, I'll search Google after Wincustomize.. I don't browse many sites, I'd browse DA, but they've yet to get their shit together and fix the glitches.

Since there's a contest out there to make skins, can we start a thread about where to find the best tutorials for creating skins in the programs displayed in the contest? Kinda figured there'd be a link somewhere on the main WC page, but I don't believe there is a link to a top-notch, easy to understand, Windowblind Skin creation tutorial thing.

But implementing an idea like that, Brainiac, could hurt the site. I mean, if someone makes two or three skins and they never get to be "supreme" skins along with the ones everyone pays attention to, they may quit skinning an we could lose potentially great skinners or subscriptions, etc. If the skins are all stuck in the same category, than everyone gets equal attention. The easiest skin to create are Bootskins in my opinion. However, that depends on whether or not you make the original artwork for the main image or you have the help from a second party, like I do. For now, I'm having quiet a bit of fun making bootskins, but I would like to start with Windowblinds, but I must do some research first.

I used v5 in Vo-Tech class and could do some half-ass editing of images and stuff, and at home, I used a trial version of v6 and v7. However, when I tryed v8, they had moved everything around and I had no idea where the hell anything was, so I gave up. I should give it another chance though since I'm in a bit better health now. A good question I've never thought of.. I have many aquaintances at DA that use huge programs to do their artwork and they suggest I use them to, but I can't do squat and what little bit I do, MSPaint and Irfanview can take care of.. I use irfanview to crop/resize images, sharpen/blur, convert, and downgrade color quality (16 color bootskins, wee!) and I use MSPaint to edit imperfections in the artwork. I'd love to buy a subscription, but three things hold me back. 1.) Lack of content in the type of art/material I like. 2.) Doctor bills.
