had a wiki prepared for this but felt kind of strange circumventing the "team" but it is now uploaded.
is there a set of rules for the trolls to follow. if this has been going along for so long it would seem that there would be reciprocity of some sort???
or do most users just grumble and install even if they would rather not?
mumble and grumble. anytime that one has to download software for some other reason than it's their choice, they're probably not happy about it. while the main benefit of Impulse (imho) is for Stardock to control their software and to advertise the products, there are aspects of it that us end users can find helpful. the ability to archieve programs, pretty solid installer and your/our
I wish I had time to be a sport
John, you are a sport and hope you know that I was just tugging your chain a bit cause of all the times we have had similar dialogs about this topic in the past. intent was humorous, hope I didn't fail too miserably. and I also agree with you that Stardock has dropped the ball when it comes to providing the necessary documentation to ensure that their product is usable.
As far as Im concerned, making a skin is easier than navigating the wiki pages
we're hoping to change that. each section of each page has a wiki link, mostly empty. I have found it frustrating to be working on some aspect that for whatever reason had me perplexed. clicking on the help tab and the wiki link only to find it empty was well....
I spent 7 months on my first skin, no wiki, no forums, no.. nuthin.
I feel lucky, I had the forums a
damn good advice Harley [e digicons][/e]
just mentioning this, hope it will work out as there are a lot of entries that are blank but, Tim and I are hoping to tackle the SKS wiki entries. I have been adding some things as I run across them but I yield to Tim's expertise on the skinning side. as he gets me data I will upload to the wiki relevant pages. BUT, you know, anyone else that wants to help out by supplying data would be helpful. I'll do the wiki posts and give credit where due. example: <
Thee first menu needs a png file but the favorites and start menu pop up MUST be bmp.
thanks for tip on the favorites menu Harley, always wondered why it looked weird.
And how do I make the "blue" color when its highligfhted into another color, preferrybly transparent
that is the menu item listed below the background. you need to have a graphic for that unless you want a solid color then it can be changed from the "change skin colors"
I could never figure out if it was a cap letter or not.
don't think it is case sensitive, I never use the caps and the second attempt usually works.
Hmm, sounds strange, other that some text issues these are pretty much straight forward graphics. would you post a picture of what your pop-up background shows in SKS and what the result is when applied.
1. Did you uninstall the trial version through Impulse?
don't think this is a requirement or even possible. the trial version is available on cnet and not through stardock/wc. In responding to another post I did some checking to see if Impulse was required for the trial version or even availabe through impulse, it does not appear to be.
what I would try just for the heck of it is to remove the downloaded file and download it again from cnet. not sure this will work but sometimes "stuff" just happens.
looks good.
If you've ever seen a SR-71 banking over the freeway at low altitude, it's a show stopper.
some really nice stuff here. JC, you are having way too much fun, some very interesting things that you're doing. love the gauges. this is what I'm currently working on. although it is at a point that I can use the skin on a day to day basis, it has a long way to go.
congratulations Harley, I'm happy for you buddy.
good showing, congratulations
Thank you everyone for your replies. *gmc2 - I followed your advice and that was EXACTLY what I needed!!! This way it was super easy to change a dark colored background back to white. Thank you very much, you're my new best friend!!
ah [e digicons][/e] , you are welcome.
(I don't know how to make text without a background)... Easy. Put your background on a separate layer under the text. Then when you're ready simply turn off that layer and poof ... no background.
with PSP the text, when applied, is a selection. save the selection (text) to the alpha channel and save as a png. when displayed only the text will show. (not sure about photoshop text)
please change mine out to this one, thanks.
I'm using Foggy Days by me and I am so disappointed that the download numbers are not good. probably the best blind that I've done. (very subjective isn't it) on the other hand:
C5 by gmc2
thanks skyzyk, nice to hear.
dark one is nicer.
OR, from SKS click on "change skin colors". click on the combo box and select edit system colors. 1st row, window background color is in the top row.
