Here are some New Year's Resolutions for many of you to rifle through and pick, just in case you haven't thought of any, or if you already quit your diet and/or workout routine, or perhaps even started smoking again: 1. When parking your car next to a grocery cart parking stall (you know those that litter the parking lot at grocery/retail stores), and

Messybuu, I respect a lot of what you say, but you have clearly pointed out the tragic 'spin' that has caught the U.S. in a dizzy spell; we are not at war with Islam. This is not a Crusade, and we aren't waging war with Allah. We are waging war (supposedly) with terrorism, which includes groups from FARC in Columbia, the Taliban and Al Qaeda, the Basque revolutionaries in Spain, and ELF (the environmental liberation front in the United States). I'm
For quite a few years now, I've been writing in various newpapers, websites, and local publications about the different plights of Africans. I've conveyed how a whole continent has avoided the media unless there is a cause: something to ruffle feathers; something to create a stir in the public eye. I remember writing about the Hutus and Tsutsis and machete-hewn chil
Although I admire your patriotism and self-gratification on being a citizen, I must point out that 'America' is doing less than it should or can. The globe is pouring out resources, donations, aid workers, and time. It just so happens to be the United States, with her gushing coffers, mighty military, and poor global relations that has no option but to help (strategically speaking). I'm afraid your article smacks of elitism, and, as 'dynamaso'
Charity is Charity. While governments of the countries that were rampaged are sure to lend a note of thanks to those who contribute aid, do you really think that the Kenyan fisherman, Indonesian villagers, and coastal Thai citizens really care 'who' gives 'what' and 'how much'? The truth of the matter is that we need to help keep the suffering to a minimum if we believe in humanity, compassion, and caring. There should be only one name ultimately at
I just sincerely hope people begin to believe in themselves, and perhaps in four years, we can have an impressive field of new political candidates. Whaddya say? Thanks for the comments.
> You know, I realized something amazing on election Tuesday. I thought we should have had our Presidentia
Blah blah Kerry, blah blah Bush. We tally up our scorecards like this is a boxing match. We glue ourselves to the television screen, and we make crucial mental judgements on the future of our nation, as if the debate depended on it. And doing so we become an official mark for the media. I'm going to demonstrate to you how this debate, on Television, is
I commend you for your diversity, and will follow up on "Love Actually". I'm a cinematographer and casting agent (but working for a t..v. station now, unfortunately). Thank you for sharing your list. If you care, here's a few of my favorites of the past 20 years, in no particular order: The Mission - (1986) Robert DeNiro, Jeremy Irons, Liam Neeson, Aidan Quinn - missionaries fight for justice in the colonial era of Spain and Portugal. L
Guys on Why They Don't Talk About Sex (to women) - A List of Perspectives: Macho Man - He does, but only in euphemisms, gestures, grunts, and random pelvic thrusts to the air - all while maintaining a death grip on a bottle of Budweiser. Fake 'Sensitive Guy' - Because he thinks if he doesn't talk about it, it will make him virgin-like, and he hopes the girl he wants to sleep with will think he is 'have-sex-with-me-b/c-I'm-chivalrous' I
Loaded questions. The real questions should be started with the default: "Are you a consumerist?" And, "What pay bracket are you in?" I see the direction you are pointing the gun, but sometimes you have to remember some of us don't use those 'guns'. Be careful about who you categorize. I'll be you shop at Wal-Mart and eat at McDonald's, too.
As a recent Veteran, and Independent voter, I thought the entire debate was garbage. But even as a Bush-spiter, I definitely believe Kerry lost...significantly. He has no platform, no agenda, no reconciliation, and he has little support from the 'Allies' he claims that he will bring together in, quote, "four years". If you believe that agenda, then I might as well tell you that MTV is the source for all of your current events. Honestly, how c
At the risk of throwing a grenade on the horse that has already been shot...after viewing the much anticipated debate between President George W. Bush and Senator John Kerry, I've been left with a different taste in my mouth - a flavor that I haven't anticipated, but one that still isn't palatable. Before I digest the debate, let it be known that I had orig
You make your plight sound horrible, when in actuality you are in a position to make a difference, and are able to mature your own soul. I think you shouldn't even worry abou JoeUser, and instead turn your own strength towards helping others improve their own lives. Chin up, man, and relish the adventure. Simply think of the end result, and not of the snapping of the umbilical cord (grins). Good luck, be smart, and focus on those who you ha
Whew! Who to respond to first? I guess I must first point out the most recent global 'interference' that was in defense of humanity: World War II. The isolationists and Charles Lindbergh's facist and racist views were overturned by the desperation of those who wanted to save the prodigal European family from the Nazi grip. The United States did NOT look towards the liberation of Europe as a strategic resource, such as the Bush Cabinet does towards
Forget about the election mumbo-jumbo in the United States of America. I'm pushing that topic to the side in favor of humanitarian rights and global samaritanism. Once again, there is another catastophe in Africa; one that has been going on for quite some time, but is now only getting some attention, thanks to a combination of civil war, famine, disea
You know, I do probably have more angst than many at the situation(s) that I have gone through, and that entails the paper trail and lack of care or concern, but I wholeheartedly state again, "The military is corrupt". What makes it so? I'd say when their waste exceeds their benefit. And I apologize if anybody else feels or felt as if I were speaking for them, because I'm not. I don't dare presume to know how everyone feels, I simply hav
Dharmagrl, it seems almost too easy to be on the other end of a situation, but I have some tremendous news for you: the military is not what you hope it would be. It is extremely corrupt, highly inefficient, undertrained, overworked, and a huge burden on your wallet. Of course the military branches rely on people to join and do their part; that I will never argue. I also won't take away the personal sacrifices that my friends and allies have made.
You know, I've thought about this for fortnights going on a millenia, and I'm so pent up with what my friend calls "aggro" (but I call it being pissed off). I'm so angry with the military for the way they treat their own people! I'm by no means a special case, but I have been compiling a tremendous list of things that the military has done to make my life extremely
You are a victim of the media. Far from being a hypocrite, I am a victim as well. Daily. If you take the spin from media from sources such as the Washington Post, CNN, New York Times, USA Today, etc, you are looking at the perspective of the United States and her allies. Spain was NEVER even close to supporting the United States. Her government ceded limited resources in order to retain favorable economic status with us. A small sacrific
Oh, and one more thought. Consider the multi-party facets of many European countries. Some have over *TWELVE* contributing parties that make conglomerations hither and thither as they see fit to overcome obstacles to their country, politics, and agenda. I very well think it's possible to have parties in the form of labor unions, environmentalists, consumer advocates, business expansionism, laissez-faire, etc, etc, groups that can pool resources in the events that change our lives. With so ma
I applaud your article, especially since it delves into the core of the issue, and not the surface debate. As an add-on, I must say that even *if* Nader takes away some of the might of the Democrat punch, he places the issues on the dinner plate for all to see. Whether or not we eat from that plate is another matter, but a fast-growing force of citizens in the United States are educating themselves on the state of the Union, and more and more are finding a new voice that is not satisfied by ei
Holy Cow. Not to really drag you through the mud again, but this issue is serious enough to warrant a closer look. If it's NOT a serious issue to you, then life must be nice to watch it whiz by without touching your senses deeply. So, after writing my previous article regarding Bush as a preacher and not a President on the issue of Gay Marriage, I really started to do some homework. And, being a resident of California (see: San Francisco
JillUser - Not lashing out at you - I'm wanting to redirect the angle of my article. You quoted: "Considering their [homosexuals] union the 'same' as marriage is something very different." According to who? You? A religious institution? Marriage between two people of the same sex means something entirely different to many different people. It depends on what church you go to, or what state you are in, or maybe even what your parents taught you. The point is, it was never created by this c
I wanted to offer my thanks to those who created this atmosphere, and those who keep creating, and those who celebrate it. Every person who contributes makes this place more of a learning and self-educating atmosphere. I, personally, feel like I have a way to vent while not being interrupted, and then given a chance to agree, disagree, retort, or say thanks. That's a powerful thing, and I don't take it for granted. As for points, who needs them, anyway? Is this a popularity contes
