You need to keep the order of strips only if you're using the gfx mod folder which is buggy to begin with.
well I keept the order and used the mod folder without any problems. :D
ok im confused about the whole mod thing... im a newb at this so help me please... i downloaded the White Star mod but it doesn't work... what do i do after i download it? thanks
put the .mdl in the .zip into your galciv\mod\gfx folder. go ingame and ensure that

imo every race had something going for them (well maybe except klackons and trolls). halfling slingers rocked indeed, but so did human Paladins, Elvish Lords and Longbow archers or Dark Elf Warlocks or Draconian Doom Drakes etc. + the most powerfull units were the heroes or summoned monsters (red/blue dragon, demon lord, Archangel etc). fighting different races and Wizards with different spellbooks was the thing that made stuff interesting.

Id like an option to replace strips instead of having to delete old and create a new one. if I want to keep the original order of strips/frames I end up redoing all 3-4 parts of a ship file if I changed just 1 thing. :p

I didnt do that yet, but I think you need to create a new .ship file in /data or add a new entry to the existing .ship files. like this: //------------------------------------------------------------------------ SHIP MyNewShip //------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name "My New Ship" Model "ShipXX" Description "thats my new ship" HitPoints XX Attack

I didnt try if I can replace existing weaponfire-animations with your tool Rain, but that would be something Id like to do in the future (eg. giving the Minbari Ships their nice green beams).

my zip files contain the art files used as well as a .mdl. the name of the mod says which ship was replaced. if you want to replace the same ship just throw my mdl into the mods/gfx folder. if you want to replace a different ship you need Dark Rain's tool.

In my last gigantic game I had the event where the emperor of another civilization is assassinated during talks and they declare war on your. Down below came the note that to make it worse someone sold them arms or something like it. I ended up with my allies the Altarian declaring war on me causing all other civs to join in cause they were all allied somehow between each other. Additionally those "arms" were Corvette Class ships with the name "Die Humans" (funny). The problem was t
After all, some might argue that Age of Wonders and HOMM and other games have filled this niche (I don't personally agree with that).
I dont agree there either. Age of Wonders and HOMM are good games, but nothing was as complex or fun as MoM. AoW and HOMM are just that. fantasy turn based games with only a few concepts taken from MoM. MoM is just a classic just like Civilization. Nothing comes close to it.
That is essentially what we would do. Take the original game and enhance the graphics (3D engine still top down but now you could zoom in and out on the map at will) and give it a good AI.
But dont forget a multiplayer modus. I always wanted to Call the Void on my brother ever since I played MoM the first time. :D MoM1 had an item/artifakt editor. Would be cool if we had a hero editor too in MoM2. And dont forget Warrax the Chaos Warrior!!!! ;)

:SURPRISED: OMG!?! Hell, I played Master of Magic 1 just half a year ago the last time lol. Its still one of my favourite turn based strategy games along with Master of Orion 2 and of course Gal Civ. ;p I heard rumors that there were ppl working on MoM2 somewhere, but never heard anything concrete. Id settle for MoM1 + better graphics + Multiplayer mode. ;) So, Stardock gonna work on it?

sorry that I reply late here. was only checking the Galciv Editing Suit - thread regularly and not looking over the board. ^^ basically you first need to know what ship you want to replace. then you go into your X:\...\Galactic Civilizations\data directory and open the .ship files with a text editor like notepad. Some ships are packed into an archive. some have their own files. For instance the most basic ships are in CoreShips.ship while the Death Knight and Excalibur

ok got the Nial as Starfighter, the White Star as Ranger and the Sharlin Warcruiser as Avatar. Next will be the Tinashi Cruiser probably as Dreadnought, the Minbari Flyer could work as Corvette, maybe the Vorlon Dreadnought as Overlord and the Vorlon Planetkiller as Doomstar. overally Iam not too happy with how the ships look after all that work on the palettes to get them into the game with correct mask and stuff. Additionally Minbari Ships are not really meant to be viewed from up top

63 Replies 8,031 Views

um, Iam using Irfanview (free image tool/viewer) for this. I simply say "reduce to black and white". If I then choose "edit palette" it only shows 2 colors black and white. I then choose "negative" and black and white are swaped. that didnt work. I got to try some more but had no time yet.

well it works with the mod folder too if you keep the order. only problem I have is to get a good alpha channel so the right parts of the pictures are transparent. even when converting a pic to black and white and then inverting the picture and using that as a 100% fitting mask I seem to get weird results.

63 Replies 8,031 Views

yeah, when I changed the order on the starfighter the 120*120 picture would be displayed as first frame of the strip (flying down). the other directions were then rotated by 1 frame more than they should ^^
