Yay!! My daughters brand new Dell doesn't have one of the bad batteries. whew. Would hate to think of her dorm catching fire because of a stupid laptop battery.

Well, that was interesting. Probably should have just waited until the August Full came out. I thought I could just do the April full and then the July update. Wrong. Thanks for the link on that though Bakerstreet. It's a very handy way of doing updates.

hmmm, I've never heard of this. Thanks for the link BakerStreet. It looks interesting.
I just went through a zdnet article and the accompanying 'discussion'. I must say I am quite reticent to install the WGA on my daughters new Dell laptop...and I hate that. I should be able to do all this without having to worry about MS deciding my OS is not legal. Phhht.
My only browser is firefox, has been for a while. I use IETab to do the windows update thing.
hey GM, I tried several things and just couldn't get it to come out right. The first one worked better. (how are you feeling these days?)
well, the moon is just about full. If you'd like I could just show you. It would be much easier.
thanks folks for your input I certainly appreciate it. There has been a lot of talk about this in some of the tech newsletters lately. Just wondered what the 'real' world experience has been. david
I went to MS update to get all the new updates for my daughters Dell laptop. The way it looks is that I can only do the Windows Update thing is by installing that stupid WGA app. I've heard horror stories that WGA has reported factory laptop installs of XP are invalid and shut the whole machine down. That's not good. I have turned off auto update on her machine. On the other hand, some of those updates are probably needed (she is going to be in a fairly secure environment, nat enabled
I'll see if I can get a post on their forum and ask about this.
Thanks Jafo. Would be nice to not have to sacrifice one thing to have another, but such is life. Aufisch: That proggie seems to work and it will use the IP themes, but it won't keep using them if I close it and restart. Do you know which settings, if any, control that?
hi Jafo, I was hoping you would post. I have an explorer replacement called xplorer2 lite, but it doesn't respect the icon packager suites. I'll give those others a try and see. sheesh..I don't have $40 to spend on those proggies. I'll have to look around
yes indeed, however, while the shell 'explorer' isn't active, the file manager 'explorer.exe' can be loaded usually
This just started happening when I installed the Popsicle 0.1.2 LS theme and now I can't fix it. It doesn't really matter which theme is running. The weird thing is that explorer worked fine for awhile and the only things I changed are the windowblind theme and the icon packager theme. I changed these while running LS. (bad?) I've rebooted (warm and cold), set the shell back to explorer and then back to LS. explorer.exe shows up in the process list, but it isn't sho
also Axialis - Icon Workshop...if you're referring to true icon files.
Wow!! This is a really great machine. I'm a little envious I have a serious question: The way it looks is that I can only do the Windows Update thing is by installing that stupid WGA app. I've heard horror stories that WGA has reported factory laptop installs of XP are invalid and shut the whole machine down. That's not good. I have turned off auto update on her machine. On the other hand
ooohhh, that is so cool. The future is going to be awesome.
The instruction at "0x77ea392d" referenced memory at "0x77ea392d". I don't know what the heck I'm talking about, I'm just curious: it looks like the instruction is trying to reference itself, the addresses are the same. That can't be right? Looks like some application is trying to create a popup ("Event Type: Information Ev

I'm using FF 1.5.0.5 This was happening prior to updating FF

Jafo...you really have to re-release that wall. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of new users here who have never been blessed to see it
