This is one of the things I had trouble with. Still HAVE trouble with, actually. Doing something for it's own sake, not seeing it as a pre-cursor or as a finale to something else and actually being present whilst doing it - yeah, it's difficult for me. I find that the easiest way to awaken my chattering monkey-mind is to ask it to focus.

The woman in the photo is Melanie Jones, the mother of Rhys Jones, the 11 year old little boy who was shot in the back on the neck in Liverpool, England a couple of weeks ago. She's kissing his coffin as it's loaded into the hearse, ready to be taken to the cemetery where it will be buried. She won't get to kiss it again, so it's a goodbye kiss for her. That wom

I'm not trying to defend this doctor's actions, but I have to say, having actually worked in medicine now I can see where the doctor is coming from, though I may not agree with the way she presented it. I can see it too, Dev. Trust me, I can see her POV. I understand why she was reluctant - however, there isn't any part of my physical fo

I look at it like this - the doctor isn't an orthopedic specialist. You've had back surgery. She did not feel qualified to have an opinion on your back, because she was not a specialist. So she referred you to someone who could give that opinion. First of all, I NEVER saw an orthopedic doc in the first place. I saw a neurologist, and I'v

In order to progress to the clinical part of the class I'm taking, I have to get a physical. I had an appointment for last Thursday. I'd never seen that particular doctor before, which worried my slightly. My worries were founded. She came in, took my medical history and as soon as she heard about my back surgery she told me that she wasn't going to continue with the exam because she wouldn't clear me. I told her that I've been working for 9 months, doing eve

I don't think there's anything wrong with a crush even if you are married. Admiring someone from afar is safe and gives you a little boost so why not. You know where the line is. I'm trying to think of an excuse for you to take his picture so we can ALL admire him. Man, if I had a photo of him......I'd carry it everywhere and spend all day gaz

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one, Trudy. Bologna for every meal is NOT adequate nutrition, period. Yes, they're in jail because they broke the law (or are charged with breaking the law and may be innocent), but they're PEOPLE. Human beings. Fallible human beings. I'm not saying that they should have steak and lobster every night, but feeding them bologna at every meal and making them go for 14 -18 hours without food is just wrong.

I got out of class early today. I finished what I needed to, got my grade (an A, in case you're interested) and decided that rather than dawdle around in school, I'd catch an earlier train home. As I was walking past the bookstore, I became aware of a man walking next to me. His pace was slightly faster than mine, and as he walked past me I turned to look at him. He literally took my breath away. Tall, but not lanky, slim - toned, athleticically slim, not hip

Are you capable? I don't think so, no. Not from what I've seen, anyway. KFC considers herself an authority on all things biblical; you can't tell her anything and any interpretation of the bible that isn't her own is wrong. So, I don't think that she's capable of seeing the satire, she's too focused on the wrong-ness of your

I talked to my mum in the UK this morning. She told me about an alarming incident that occurred on her street two nights ago. 'She lives in what the British call 'sheltered accommodation'. It's like a retirement community; people have their own homes but have call buttons in each room should they fall and a warden comes by every day or so to check on them' There's a little alle

An 11 year old British boy, Rhys Jones, was killed outside the pub he played soccer for last week. Link Link Police say that it was a gang motivated killing; that some teenager with an illegal firearm (pistol) simply walked up to Rhys as he was having a kickabout (impromptu game of soccer) with his friends, and shot him in the back of

D moved units late last year. His current unit claims to be more 'family' oriented, but what they really are, imo, is more 'party' oriented. They never miss an opportunity to have a barbecue or a get together. For instance, in the past 2 weeks there have been 4 events that have included getting together and drinking beer. Whilst none of them have been mandatory, it's been highly recommended that people show up – those of you who are prior or current military will know what that m

My yarn stash is almost out of control. There's a knitting terminology called 'critical mass'. That means that you have more yarn than you can knit in your lifetime. My stash isn't at critical mass yet, but it's getting there. I've got yarn EVERYWHERE. It's in baskets, in cedar boxes, trunks, tubs, in closets, shirt sleeves, bags....in the vanity under the bathoom sink, under my bed, behind the couch, in the laundry room....it's every frikkin' where.</P

Draginol recently posted an article ( http://draginol.joeuser.com/articlecomments.asp?AID=161032&s=1 ) giving those of us with MS Word 2007 instructions on how to post to JU using that program. I've written this article using Word '07, and (using Draginol's instructions) I've posted it to my blog. How cool is that?!! (Answer – VERY cool!) This is going to make my whole blogging experience MUCH easier!

I've recently been introduced to the concept of 'Freeganism'. Freeganism is a way of life where.....well, the rules (guidelines) explain it far better than I ever could: *My thoughts about each of the guidelines are in itialics* 1. I will not buy anything except for food, medical needs or in case of emergency. That seems pretty easy. However, 'emergency' is pretty subjective. 2. I will be a

I'm sorry to hear that, Mason. I've asked and will continue to ask the oversoul/universe/god for some healing and peace for your mom and also for you. I don't want to be the voice of doom here, but skin cancer isn't always just a case of cutting the offending patch of skin out. If it's malignant melanoma, there's a chance that it's metastasised to other organs. My husband's aunt had malignant melanoma that spread to her lungs and then showed up in her brain too.&nbsp

Baking soda isn't just good for absorbing smells in the fridge, it's good for smells all over the place. One of the cabinets in our home, the one that the drinking glasses are in, smelled funny and made all the drinking glasses smell funny too until we put a box of baking soda in it. The best way to de-smell a house is to clean it, and that includes the carpets. The only concern I have with your carpets is that you can't open the windows and encourage the carpets to
