Big life changes are the most exciting They are. It's like being on a roller coaster ride....you're scared and terrified but laughing and excited all at the same time. Me either...four more months an

This time last week I was getting my patient cleaned up and comfortable in her bed. I knew that she was on her way out of this life, but I thought that she had a few days (if not weeks) left. If you had told me that I'd be starting college classes today, I'd have laughed at you and told you to check your temperature because you must be delirious. My life has changed a lot in the past 7 days. First, my patient passed away. I knew that she was te

Sounds like a great idea. Thanks, and I think so too. Back when I was a teenager, I wanted to go to nursing school - and had it not been for my dad being ill, I may have gone. However, things weren't meant to be and I didn't get to go. I've said in the past that I wanted to go to medical school, but I don't think that that's going to happen. It's not that I couldn't make it because I think that I could, it's just that it would mean a LOT of

First day jitters That's exactly what they are. Funnily enough, I slept ok last night. This morning, though, I feel like I've had a whole pot of coffee (in reality I've had one cup) and I've got butterflies in my tummy. It'll be fine. That's my mantra for today. <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bg

Tomorrow is the first day of school for me. I haven't been a college student....well, in quite some time. Years.....and that's what scares me. I'm scared. I can't pinpoint exactly what I'm scared of; it's more of a generalized scared. I'm a little scared of getting lost, of being late, of not fitting in, of.....of a whole bunch of things. The one thing that I'm NOT worried or scared about, though, is the class work. I KNOW I can do that. I g

If we all showed up looking like very lazy dressers, not caring about our appearance, what does that say to those coming in for the first time? It says that the people in the church are more interested in GOD than in what everyone else is wearing. I'd rather worship with a bunch of people in jeans and T shirts than with a bunch of people in suits and dresses. In my experience, the ones who dress to the nines and who are worried about how they look in c

Third time's a charm, I hope... When I found out that I was pregnant with Jake, Dave and I thought about abortion. We didn't think that we could afford another child; we already had two and were relying on my income to make ends meed. However, I couldn't do it. I couldn't kill the child that was inside me, period. I was going to say 'not because of money' but that isn't true - I couldn't have killed any child of mine, no matter what. There isn't any reason that I consider good enough to

Despite what they tell you when they lead you to Christ, despite what they say from the pulpits, the church in America doesn't WANT castoffs. They don't want people with questions, they don't want people with problems You're right. They don't. They want people who 'fit' into their congregaions, and if you don't 'fit', then they either look down on you and ostracize you, or they find ways of running you out of church. I've seen it, and it's happened to me. I prefer to worship in

Jyth: The company may help with any further certifications, and they also help by giving us classes to go to to keep our certs current. Marcie: I'm definitely going for my LPN and RN classes. Yeah, med school would be cool and intellectually I know I could do it, but hospice nursing is where I want to be. I like being able to make a difference in someone's life - and death. It's funny how things just fall into place. Whenever a patient passes away, a hospice RN has to come out (she pronounces the patient deceased, contacts the coroner...there are things that have to be done for the patient and she takes care of them). I knew the nurse that came out on Tuesday; we'd worked together before. She asked me if I was a CNA or LPN - based on the level of care that I'd provided she thought I was at least an LPN if not an RN. I said that no, I wa

I guess it is a matter of opinion -- but I think $400 is an outrageous amount for a monthly vehicle payment (unless it comes with a driver and then I might consider it!) It IS an outrageous amount. That's TWICE what we were paying for our vehicles. We feed our family of 5 on about $400 a MONTH, so I fail to see how you can say that it's not a huge amount of money. $400 a month can be the difference between flat broke and flush with cash for

Reading it, I felt I had lost a friend as well. It appears you did lose one. Yes, I did. She was more than a patient to me, she was almost a substitute grandmother, but she was also my friend. We had a lot of laughs together; she had a magnificent sense of humor and her wit was razor sharp (when she was 'with it', that is).....I re

The Mrs of the couple I provide care for passed away yesterday evening. Last night, her daughter-in-law's best friend gave birth to a baby girl. As one leaves, another comes and so the circle continues. I am always amazed at how, when a person has passed away, it becomes very apparent a few moments after their death that who they were; their essence, their soul.....that that part of them has left and the only thing that's left is a mere shell. I can't put my fing

Okay. Thank you. You are a TRUE friend, 'miah, and I'm very grateful to know you and have your friendship. I understand this better than 99% of the stuff you write. Peace, dharma. <

Every so often, I get this need to be alone. Just alone. I don't want to talk to anyone about things, I don't want to write about things. I don't want to discuss or analyze any of the things I'm feeling, I just want to hold them close to me until I've come to terms with them. Then, and only then, will I talk to anyone about them - and even then I may choose to keep schtumph. I don't know why I get like this. I do know that it's a way to s
