Oohhhhhh, this sucks. I just got home from the airport and I'm more upset than I thought I'd be - it was incredibly hard to say 'see you later' (I refuse to say goodbye) and watch her walk down to the gate. I didn't think I'd be this upset; I knew it was going to be hard, but this is much worse than I expected. I'm going to have a cup of tea and a good cry now. Thank you for your replies, btw.

My mum flies home today after a three week vacation here with me and mine. It's been a wonderful time....I don't want it to end. I don't want her to go home. I don't want to put her on a plane and have the big Atlantic separating us again. I don't want to let her go. I'm not going to let her go. We have re-established the mother-daughter relationship again; we've re-connected in a way that I wish I had the words to adequately explain....we're close agai
My mum adores your little girl. So do I.
I've gone crazy. Completely crackers. Lost my mind. I'm an utter lunatic. I've been bitten by the sock knitting bug. Mum bought me a pretty spendy sock knitting book, a very comprehensive one that allows you to customize patterns and make socks to fit their recipient. I'm making a made-to-measure pair of socks for her as a 'thank you for buying me the book and look at how I'm using it' present. Actually, I'm feeling pretty guilty
If I've done this right, you should be able to play the clip of me and mum seeing each other for the first time in 11 years. It's not much; Dave wasn't as on the ball with the camera as I'd hoped and the lack of sound doesn't do much for the ambience (although you can hear me starting to cry at the sight of her), but you still get to see my big ass. This is us at the top of the Arch la
Brenda-Mum became an instant shopaholic too, and she was sooo impressed with our food too, just cheap places like IHOP and Cracker Barrel and Waffle House. So's my mum! We went to the mall and got food from the cheap chinese place at the food court, and she was gobsmacked at the amount they were putting on the plates for the price we'd p
Geez you'd think you had better things to talk about. Well, she was asking me about my blog, so I was explaining to her that I blog about all kinds of things, knitting included - and then I said that you had started knitting too and were blogging about your socks and things. That's how it came up - and since then we've talked about a lot
I'm so glad your mom is here and arrived safely. I hope that you enjoy your time together! (Duh! I know you will!) Give her a hug from me, too I will do, Marcie. I'm glad for your happiness, K. </
Mum arrived safely - 3 hours late, but safely nonetheless - and it's been go go go since then! Thursday morning we were going to stay home to help her get over jet lag, but she said she didn't notice any and wanted to go out - so we went to the mall and then to that behemoth flagship of modern American consumerism, Wal-Mart Supercenter. She was aghast not only at the size of it, but at the prices too. Not WAL-MART prices, prices in general. Take today, for example: s
I don't watch The View, but I'm still cheering at her departure. The less we see of that pig on TV, the better. Rosie's leaving the view! Alle-freaking-lujah!
Your oldest two have really changed I know, and it's scary! I looked at their photos from the last couple of years last night and I was left gob-smacked at how much they've changed - especially Davey, he's really developed fast. He came to me the other night as I was laying on the bed watching TV and showed me his armpits - he's go
Say hi for me and best wishes. Life must be much different for her these days without your dad. I will, and it is......it's going to be difficult for me to see her without my dad. I'm expecting his absence to be very apparent.... <TD cl
Ah yes, I've been aware of Stitchy McYarnpants for some time and have spent many hours giggling over the photos and the razor-sharp witty commentaries. Thanks for thinking of me, though!
It was spring photo day for my children's school district a couple of weeks ago. I haven't purchased school photos (spring and otherwise) for a couple of years, mainly because they've been incredibly expensive and generally not very good. This year, though, I'm making an exception. The photos they all brought home are very, very good, and I was very surprised - they're not what I would consider 'normal' school photos. Well, Jake's photo is pretty much a standa
Tomorrow morning, I'lll be putting clean sheets on the bed in my daughter's room and doing a little light housework. Tomorrow lunchtime, I'll be having difficulty sitting still. Tomorrow afternoon, my husband and I will be driving to the other side of St Louis. To Lambert Airport, to be exact. No, I'm not going to be dropping him off, not this time. This time we'll be picking someone up. We'll be picking my mum up. She's arriving tomorr
Hey! I'm directly descended from that same bastard child! Who knew, we're like almost long-lost relatives or something, Karen? Oh my. That could make my crush on you illegal......
I have some homesteading books that talk about bee keeping, one in some detail. If you're interested, I'll give you the titles of them. When Dave retires from the AF (only 5 years to go now woo-hoo!) we've got plans for a home on a couple of acres with an orchard, honey bees (good for pollenation)some veggies and, of course, chickens. Bees are good for honey, yes, but there are many other uses for them: beeswax is good for candles and also furniture polish, and there are alternative t
I'm British. Was born there and spent 20 years there. In a couple of years, I'll have spent half my life in America, and whilst I'll eventually become an American citizen, my heritage will always be British. Past that, I really don't know. I was adopted as an infant and although I've found my birth mother she's decided that she's too selfish to give me the time of day (or a genetic medical history. Nice, aint she?). My parents - the people who adopted me and who will always
I haven't felt like blogging in a while. Months, to be accurate. It's bothered me, because I've always enjoyed writing and have used it as a theraputic tool for most of my life. Got a heart/head/bellyache? Blog about it. Someone been born/died? Blog about it. Someone you love leaving/coming home? Blog about it. Got a hangnail? Blog about it. Found some gorgeous new sock yarn/found a new sock knitt
It's a little more than 24 hours since Cho Seung-Hui decided that he was going to kill his fellow students and faculty at Virginia Tech, and already the armchair quarterbacking has started. We've got security 'specialists' squawking about how the campus shouldv'e been on lockdown after the first murders, psychologists, psychiatrists and all kinds of other psych-whatevers spouting theory after theory about Cho's state of mind and what set him off, reporters badgering witnesses i
I know that Dave loves me and that he doesn't want to be married to anyone else but me. My 'stretchmarks' moment came a couple of years ago when I found a 4cm lump in my breast. I had arranged to have it surgically removed and biopsied, but the almost 3 weeks between my discovering the lump and having it removed were filled with 'what if's'. One of those 'what if's' was 'what if this is malignant and I have to have a mastectomy? Will you still love me if I have to
Have you made a pair of Jaywalker socks yet, Mason? It's like a sock knitters rite of passage to make a pair....I have the pattern if you're interested. I'm making a pair of socks with an Om symbol on the heel right now. They're very cool...
Maybe he has a touch of alzheimers? He has a progressive neurological disease that's the cause of his personality change. Most people don't know about that aspect of the disease, but it's common in people with a more advanced progression. He can be difficult to deal with as it is, but when he's got something into his head there's a
I was going to say that not much has happened around here since I last wrote, but that's not true. Things have happened.... For instance, my patient upset me. Notice I said patient, in the single tense, not patients, which would include the Mrs of the couple. She's more understanding. The Mr is the one who both upset and pissed me off a little.... ....he knows that I'm going to be taking some time off when my mum comes to visit. He's known since I
Oh fuck. I'm sorry.....it seems so futile, but it's all I can say. I'm sorry....for you having to tough it out even longer, for Adrian having to miss his little girl's entire first year on this planet, for your boys having to be apart from their daddy. It all sucks, and it shouldn't be happening. I wish that the people who are making these decisions had to live like the soldiers they're making decisions for. I wish that they were the ones being separated for too
