I liked the way Kohan Immortal Sovereigns handled resource collection - I'm betting most of you have NEVER heard of that game (it's fun but outdated now probably a $3 game now) so I'll explain it! Heres how it worked each map had a limited number of cites (in soase: planets) and each city produced at a base +3 to every resource, however you could upgrade cites to produce more of one thing example: build a mine to collect more stone, or build a library to produce more magic or build a b

War isn't invertible I go many games and NEVER get attacked. The trick? have the biggest military out there - if your stronger then EVERYONE they won't attack you - furthermore, using a "buffer state" works well get a moderately powerful neighbor to pick on anyone whose messing with you - and supply them ships NOT technology - just ships... also the BEST way to get ahead militarily is to just trade for weapons techs early on (kortah/drengin always get early weapons) but never give away weapons t
Err well I beta'd Supreme Commander and the multi player is fun enough that I'll end up buying it. It's sort of fun theres lots of ways to win that can really make end games interesting - some people tech up for things like nukes or high end artillery that can hit anything on the map - some people prefer a fast rush - still others go for the mobile tech 3 siege bots and the more powerful experimental weapons. It's got enough ways to win/lose that I'll buy it and finally stop playing Star Craft (
just two? sigh I had that covered months ago... this games still almost half a year off its going to be so out of date by the time it releases it won't be worth playing. Yawn. Yeah those pictures look a lot nicer.
His math skills are so superior, hes forgotten how to do the simple stuff. That happens to me all the time - I mean sometimes I can't remember how to add 37 and 52 but it never stops me from doing my damn matrices... sigh! Thankfully graduated from college so I'll never have to deal with that again. (unless I decide to continue my education)
err SoaSE is hardly a high end game - if you've read the comment the devs have made about how the game is scalable then dual screen support should hardly be an issue - furthermore if its merely showing an interactive - tactical map it hardly requires much power at all to display.
blah screen shots... I need video damn it video! It does however look nice - any chance the game will look better on a higher end computer? I'm not saying it looks bad (it looks modern) I'm just curious if there are any better graphics setting... I remember hearing the game was scalable just currious how scalable - and does it have the ability to make use of DX10?
class 1 planets can ROCK I've had quite a few show up with 2 or 3(thought i saw 4 once) expansion slots per level of soil enhancement.
Sorry guys the final betas removed ALL the debug code and had some optimizations in it - this was the code used for the gold master AND the demo. SupCom handles on the lowest settings fairly descent on anything not a dual core - note if you don't have a dual core or better SupCom just won't run that well. I went to my current system just to be able to play the SupCom beta at the highest settings. It's all about your CPU not your GPU... QuadCore time is here, there just a little expensiv
Wow things just got really wacky. The game will run in full screen mode at 1280x1024 but not at 1024x768... 1280x1024 is my default desktop resolution. Ever heard of a game refusing to run at one resolution but not at the other?
Yup windowed mode worked. Yeah I was in the beta game worked just fine on both a 9700pro and my old geforce 6600 but the 8800 is quite a bit different. I wasn't really surprised that I would be having some trouble getting games to work (this isn't the first time either Battle Stations Midway only works in windowed mode)... however, I truly hate windowed mode so .... a fix?
Just bought a new top of the line computer and the game will NOT play. All I see at launch is a mouse cursor (in the center of the screen) set to a black background and I hear the theme music for the game. This happens in both Dark Avatar and GalCiv 2. it -is- dx10 ready the drivers however for vista are still beta.
drivers already fixed - I've been running an 8800gtx the latest drivers fixed it - works wonders and because someone else posted there comp specs I'm posting mine! Thats simply because of the language barrier... We don't use half the words in common speech that you do (Ex: Capers)... At least thats my guess - I could be wrong but thats kind of rare. That said - I hate Mac computers so much - and when you consider that OS X was designed by Microsoft whats the point of Apple Computers?
It doesn't charge until the beta goes active but I don't know when that is
I've found it somewhat usefull in SupCom its nice to see where enemy/freindly/allied units are when your playing an RTS it also makes it easy to togle effect like Sheilds on/off or other things that drain energy - However, I doubt it would be all that usefull in this game as I've yet to see a space game with artillary that fires across the map ... as for graphics procession power I'm all for it JUST got a
P5y just a quick obvious one - the 10 ships at each planet you own scenario wouldn't work simple due to the fact that if your forces are evenly distributed among each planet you control and your facing an enemy of about equal strength odds are that when they attack they'll group a bunch of ships together to attack a planet - thus pummeling your evenly distributed forces.
My understanding is that there will be fleet commanders in SoaSE so my question is this - Do fleet commanders work like they do in Rome Total War where they will gain experience for each battle or do they simply act as a wsy to represent the AI fleet management within the game? Futermore, Will Fleet commanders occupy a specific ship? thus making going after whatever ship the commander is on a worthy goal... This also could introduce some intresting events in a fleet battle such as a ne
I do like the idea of ships tasked with goals - A game called STARS! (yes all caps) Had a feature where you could set ships goals like "Attack from Maximum Range", "Attack from optimum range", "Attack for maximum damage", "Do not engage", "Retreat if engaged" etc... This was really nice as you could set multiple priorites (I think it was 2 per ship) which allowed you to setup "Attack for maximum damage" which would target the most damaged ship and destroy it and then setup a "retreat if damaged
Fragile Capital Ships? Sorry I only build dreadnoughts I however have one question about fighters are they smart enough to dock with any avilable ship - per say there capital ship has been destroyed and some form of all ships retreat order has been givein. Will fighters that have lost their Capital ship automaticly dock with any ship that doesn't have a full fighter compliment?
I am playing the newest version but you see I tend to mass build a very basic ship for AI trades - Littearly I influence wars I never get directly involved - I build a TON of small ship hulls and just trade about 50-80 of them away and the ai's more then happy to give away planets.
AI's will tend to give you almost anything for a few ships when there in the middle of a catastrophic war - and while that makes sense they'll also trade you ALL of there planets and technology if you give them enough ships. I honestly think there needs to be a cap on the number of planets that they'll trade (say roughly 10% of there empire for perhaps a 300% increase in there current military strength)... Anyway just a thought - this just needs some rebalancing
no multi player control works great typically you do a gentlemans agreement as to who does the "opening phase" - Starcraft had this feature and it worked well it just never grew to popularity as I don't think people knew about it (its the TEAM MELEE games) I found it was a great deal of fun at lans so you and a freind could team up against 2 other people... lot of fun.
That's not a bug it's a feature!
