Terl knew they were on to him. He had infiltrated the Evil Empire to assess their technology levels. Terl had satisfactorily painted a picture in their minds of his evilness and he was welcomed into their worlds. He sensed however, through the force, that the leaders were becoming suspicious of him. When they came for him he used his Jedi mind tricks to have the assassins believe that a nearby guard was in fact Terl. Terl made his way stealthily back to his ship and was taking off into the night sky as the assassins killed the unsuspecting guard whom they believed to be Terl.

Terl piloted his way quickly back to Jedi Republic space and reported to his commanding officer all that he had found.

At least the remaining infiltrators had not been found out....

My forces wrapped up a skirmish in our sector yesterday. We are slowly regaining our space!

Good job, I have one game finished and another where it is me allied with one AI and trying to wipe out the other. I f all goes well I will be winning this game by tomorrow, my ally only has 3 planets, an they all are in the same square so should be easy to cultural bomb them. ;)

I had to settle for the stupid cultural victory again. I had started that game before you reminded me about turning it off. I will begin another assault this evening :) I am going for normal this time.

I will first apply the fixes discussed to the techs and then delete those 2 up tech trades (saving all in a nice safe place) before I start. I experimented a bit in the last game and really had the economy cranking. I had next to nothing for a military until over half way through the game.

What exactly is "culture bomb"? Is that when a fleet of constructors drops a complete cultural starbase at once?

Hah, now you are beaten back by even the MWC. You should have never dared to resist the might of the European Alliance. That only started the chain reaction ultimately leading to the republic's doom.

Culture bombing is the strategy of locating culture starbases around enemy territory. Usually, it entails building Culture Palaces or Party Palaces as close to each other as you can. The bonuses stack in a different way than other bonuses. It seems they multiply instead of add. This used to be much simpler when there was no limit as to how many SBs you could build in a sector, but is still possible if you are careful and use your resource SBs well. Also, using Party Palace Terror Stars in a "fleet" produces the best results (in my view).

Are these starbase modules then? I guess I have not gotten far enough along on the tech tree to see them yet. I started a culture starbase (or what I thought was one) last night and kept adding every cultural thing I could to it. Is there a way to see the influence you have on a given sector?

Yes they are the most powerful moduls (+50% and +100% Influence), very useful for cultural and pseudomilitaristic victorys. LOL LOL LOL

Ah then, I could have used these last night! I learned a lot during the last game about the economics end. I also made it much further up the tech tree this game. I will have to check into these further. We thank the mighty Halutians for their advice and Theoden as well.

There is a little button at the top of the main map that has five little colored boxes in it (near where the sector ID is). Click it and it will bring up a display of the influence in the sector. Note that it will only tell you the influence of the majors.

Here is a screenshot (taken from this site). Look beside the Sector 3-1 box.

In order to build Culture Palace modules and Party Palace, you need to research the appropriate tech (Cultural Conquest I think is necessary for Culture Palace and another is necessary for Party Palace). I wish I was at home so I could tell you for sure.

Your lucky, Lord Terl, that Hairy didn't send me to 'erase' you as your Jedi comrades put it. We will meet again.

End Transmission.

Theoden: Thanks! I kept looking at all the buttons under the mini-map. I will try it tonight when I start a new game (after fixing the up resolution stuff and the tech fix).

Dark Lord Assassin:

We will meet again.

True enough, but do come prepared ;) :D

Don't worry about the tree, i finished hin several times. Not very impressiv. A good strategist don't even need to built Excalibur ships, i only built one of them in 21 games! ;) ;)

In the few games I've played the highest ship I've had is the battleship and I've fared very well. In the last two, I just forgot to turn off the cultural victory. But, then again, I won...as the game says "Praise Emperor Terl" :D

Like Tolot said I can count with the fingers of one hand, how many games I have played that I needed to built Excalibur, the latest one I had the Draginol and what I did was to built Excaliburs to give to them to fight the Torians, so when the Torians were without ships, here we come.

Largely because if you get there before the AI (which is assured on all but maso), you can declare war on all AIs, and annihilate them with only a handful of Excaliburs set to auto-attack...

"And how does one do this Master", asks Padawan Terl.

I micro everything. I send ships out and then just go to where I sent them and move them again. Tedious, but it works. Help me to use the force better :)

My references to the tech tree were in regards to the culture modules. I had not seen them show up, so I assumed I had not researched the right techs...

Terl

you can also press F8 whilst over a sector to get info on all influences in that sector. and pressing F9 will change the whole main map into a map of influence color coded to empires :) press F9 again to return to normal viewing.

Terl just right click on the ship and will give you a series of options that will allow you to set your ships to auto-attack, but for that button to work you has to be at war with one of the AI's.
