Terl: I am quite embarrased to admit I didn't realize you were the overlord formerly known as Samwise!

Though I am distressed that you have followed the lure of Evil, I am glad you stopped in and said hi.

In regards to the Fellowship entering the fray between the various combatants, I as a member of the Council, suggest we remain at alert status and watch the battle carefully. Though we withstood the last advance by Special Forces, it appears likely they will attempt another attack sometime very soon. Up until now, our relations have been quite amicable for an empire under attack. However, another unprovoked attack by Special Forces could result in a vote by me in favor of war.

I'm sure our pacifist friend, Downie, will join me in saying that we should avoid conflict as long as possible, but remain vigilant in the face of a changing Metaverse.

This took me a few minutes to write, as work keeps interupting my important dealings with the Metaverse! How rude...anyway, yes...this is the start of us just having a bit of fun and maybe start a war.:D

I do apologize for not being upfront about leaving. I really had no "reason" beyond my playstyle and choices seemed to fit better in the Evil Empire. But one never knows where the path may turn next.

I hope nobody minded my somewhat satirical in character reasons for leaving. ;)

No problem! The Fellowship is really kind of a weird empire. It really doesn't bother us when somebody decides to move on and find their destiny elsewhere. We hate to see anyone leave, but it doesn't help anything to get upset or anything.

I actually think your in character reason for leaving is excellent! Well done! :)

I enjoy roleplay but tend to be more lighthearted about it. I will mix genre's, different author's, and such just to have fun.

I had to give some kind of in character response as the lead in was very good too. But with my travels between empires it had to be "out there". I am glad you enjoyed it.

This might be a good time to remind all members of the Fellowship that our roster page contains backstories of our characters. If you would like to submit a "history" of your character, please post it here on the website. Be sure to specify your gender, race and class (Male Halfling Thief, etc). Take a look at what some of us have written as a guide to what you might want to write!

What effect would a war between the Fellowship and the Special Forces have on relations with the Republic?

I quite enjoyed it, Terl!

Hmmm... just reread my character description. Maybe it's time for a change.

Unprovoked? Pacifist? Er...that was the M.Downie who jumped back on board pretty quickly when we made our last advance, wasn't it? Listen horsey boy, you're not fooling anybody with this "nice guy" talk: you'd better pray for another M.Downie to pop up, or Smeagol to get his scores back - because Special Forces intend to have the wizards...for Christmas dinner....

You're staying very close to the GalCiv spirit! "Well, you've been a valuable trading partner as long as you were smaller than us. But now you're almost as big as we are. Therefore we must do war upon you, with every fiber of our being." Reminds me of my relations with the Altarians...

Terl,

Look at Saruman. Nice guy one day, just plain evil another. Darned palantirs.

Ray would have you believe that he's more of a Gandalf type. Don't be fooled. The Good Ray/Evil Ray presence on the Metaverse is often very Saruman-like.

Good Ray is usually dominant, sowing peace and game strategies with one hand, while extending the other in friendship (and sometimes recruitment). Oozing paternalism and goodness from every pore.

Evil Ray's deeds, on the other hand, would frighten the snot out of most of us, while earning a jealous nod from the Evil Empire for creativity.

BRRRRR!! We're having a little ice storm here at the moment and the whole family's sick. I finally got the darn Christmas tree up but we have to watch the baby very closely now to keep her from pulling it down!!

Anyway, just my luck...I've never seen the Draginol until today. And yee-ha, the game crashes the turn after I meet them. Nothing like a good ole CTD, huh? I think I'm going to download Smart Exception and see if I can get a file to send Cari. Personally, I think the Draginol just ruined a pretty good game, though. Their appearance has pretty much doomed any chance for a great game now, even if I can get around the CTD.

Hmmm...I wonder if I were to capture them the first turn if I would still get that CTD?

It seems Special Forces has issued a challenge. Since the pacifist voice has spoken in favor of war, I now cast my vote for war as well. If I'm reading vincible correctly, I think he is a yes vote on war, so that makes three votes for war, with no votes yet from Ray or Rick. The unprovoked attacks on Fellowship space must be dealt with in a harsh manner.

Theoden, we hope you and family stay warm & healthy. In newer versions of Gal Civ (1.10 or 1.11) the deceased civilization no longer has to pay off its debt. In older versions with Draginol, you could move most of your colony off in a colony ship and/or combat transport(s) when you heard about the bad thing about to happen. Then after they appeard, you could trade peace for mega bucks. After closing the deal, you then alpha strike them and they vanish. It seems in the newer version you will only get a one-time payment at best. LOL.

I still get CTD on 1.11 but not so many. My last problem was a lockup thing. It's easy to download SmartException, play through the CTD, and send it to Cari. After my CTD issues, I autosave every 1 or 2 turns so I sometimes go back and replay through the CTD if I am lucky. I had to hit reset to get out of the recent lockup, go through ScanDisk, etc. But when I loaded the Autosave, all was well. Go figure. :D

Whether SF issues a challenge or not, we are both competing for 4 million. But, I don't know about this war thing . . . would that be something like not getting the holo vids from the Altarians any more? LOL.

Say 'No' to War!

"A riot is an ugly thing . . . and before we go around killing people we'd better make Dam sure we have our facts straight . . . "

Does anyone recognize this most profound quote from a Gene Wilder Movie, just add a transilvanian accent? here's a hint . . .

"To the lumber yard!"

Given my fond memories of my time with your great empire and the tutilage I recieved therein I plead with your most venerable members to reconsider thier stance in this matter.

Tis' the session of carrols and mirth . . . if we must have it out can't it wait until the new year? I for one am weary of battle :notsure: . . .

Good morning, everyone! I have outstanding news!! That CTD problem after the Draginol didn't repeat itself, so I can only guess a restart did the trick. Let me also say I rushed colony ships and emptied the system of population (there were 3 planets in the system and all of them were reduced to 0 pop. The Draginol event didn't occur until several turns later and the pop was only 15 or 20 by then. It only took one Combat Transport... :HOT:

I am also pleased to say that I have officially achieved the status of Vice Admiral! My 40th game was a good one! Unfortunately, I have to report that I had to resort to Culture Bombing to defeat the Torians. That game had a little of everything...the Draginol, the Fundamentalists, a couple of +15% PQ events.

Ginata: A holiday treaty would be welcomed by me! I also had not realized you had dropped from "Very Good" status. Alas, the pure heart hath fallen!

In regards to the war, what say the Council? Ginata is a well-regarded Honorary Member and worthy of our consideration of this matter.

She could be trying to lure us into a false sense of security, so as to soften us up for a surprise attack, if her fall from the path of pure good is anything to go by.
Understandable, though. I'm trying to get to Very Good, and I'm getting sick of the lengths I have to go to to get my alignment score up to a hundred by the end of every game. Usually, I can do it if I can colonise every world with a PQ of 7 and above, at least in Large or bigger universes.

Annoyed to see that you outrank me now. I'll have to finish off that game I was playing. It was quite exciting at first; I took zero diplomacy bonus, and perhaps because of that, for a change, another race actually declared war on me. Unfortunately, I hadn't bothered doing the cheat to reveal the whole galaxy, so through no fault of my own I was actually in quite a good starting position, despite my unpromising edge of galaxy beginning.
The war itself was disappointing. Before he had time to attack me, I researched Interstellar Tactics, built a few frigates, and picked off his undefended transports. He got bored and offered peace.
Even without a good initial diplomacy, having built Diplo Trans, I was still able to catch up with everyone else through researching one expensive tech and trading with everyone else. And now I've conquered a couple of minors, giving me economic superiority, so the rest of the game is going to be a dull formality.

Nyah! Nyah! :p

LOL

Yes, these Pure Goods are starting to wear a little thin on me, too. If it weren't for the Fundamentalists, I'd probably play every game Demonic, but I hate loosing planets to a bunch of goody-goodies.

I will abstain from a vote for war with the Special Forces, for now. However, they must respect Fellowship territory. If they again close within 125,000 points, my vote shall be for war!

Meanwhile, preparations must be made.

Yes, Special Forces seems to be a bit confused themselves as to what they want to do. Could be too much beer! LOL

Matthew, Sirian's done some interesting things with one-sector and one-planet challenges on maso. If you're getting bored with standard Galciv you might give them a try.

Check the strategy forum for details.
