Oh for goodness sake, I had thought friendly rivalry was part of the Empire deal. Apparently, only Matthew and vincible retain a sense of humour. Since I have obviously upset my own troops, I retract everything. Forget I spoke.

Wombie: Please don't misinterpret anything!! I've been playing along as well! This is all in good fun! We've needed a good old fashioned war around here, since the fall of G.R.O.S.S. things have been too quiet.

Please keep playing along, but don't take any of our war-speak literally!!

We'd just love to blast you into millions of space dust particles! :D LOL

Psychological Report: Fellowship of the Ring
by Doctor Quack, GalCiv Resident Psychoanalyst

In order to determine the reasons for the Fellowship's recent warmongering stance, it is necessary to consider their history. December is always the busiest month for hobbits and elves, due to Christmas merchandising. (The Yuletide Workers Union was originally elves-only, but decided to allow hobbits membership as well, to avoid a racism law suit, and hobbits were deemed "elf-related" enough to work in the background.) Elves and hobbits receive lots of publicity at this time of year, but after Christmas, they are forgotten. No-one wants to hire these people for the rest of the year, for the same reason it's considered bad form to leave Christmas decorations hanging all year. So, they are consigned to one month of fleeting fame, and eleven months of living in "spider holes" (you all know what spider holes are now, don't you?), drinking elven wine and smoking hobbit-weed, at the bottom rungs of society.

The December spike in elf-hobbit popularity has been intensified by the recent elf and hobbit-related movie releases. Elves and hobbits even strut around at the movie premieres like they own the place. Of course, once the movie series finishes, they will be forced to go back to their former squalor.

They cannot bear the thought of going back to their old lives. The greatest thing they have learned over the last few years is that they have strength in numbers. Send one elf out in the street in his ceremonial dress and he'd be sent to a nut-house (or, at the very least, called a nerd.) Send a thousand elves out and it's called a parade.

They realize the strength an army can provide - apart from the obvious combat potential, it will also give many of them employment all year long. The level of funding needed for such an army would be massive - but the defense budget is always increased during wartime.

The only target which poses a "credible threat" to the elves and hobbits is the Special Forces. Therefore, they have declared war on SpecFor, in a quest for power, glory, a steady paycheck, and three meals a day.

(Disclaimer: I'm not really a psychoanalyst. :p )

Wow, Mayito! If you wanted to get rid of MOO3 that bad, you only needed to say it once! LOL Just kidding! That is very odd that it repeated that many times, though. Thanks, but no thanks on MOO3. I've not heard one good word about the game and though curious, I prefer wasting my time in other pursuits such as GalCiv! :D

Doctor Quack...now THAT'S a scary thought! Although you may be onto something, there Quack.

M003 It is a strange game, it doesnot make a whole a lot of sense, I just was trying to save your money, but well I can give it another try now that I don't have internet for 2 weeks and I cannot submit games from work.

Whether MOO3 is worthwhile depends on what you are looking for in a game. :) A few of us at RB tried it out and came to the conclusion that there are a few sweeping problems with the game that pretty much wreck it for us as a community. For instance:

a) The victory conditions are very poorly designed. Senate and especially X victory conditions are quite arbitrary, leaving only conquest as a reasonable VC.

b) Early conquest is so overpowered as to be the only sensible option -- i.e. there is one "best" approach to playing the game. Trade etc. is far less important than grabbing as many good planets as possible & pop from as many different races as possible.

Ultimately, the game design was over-ambitious to start with, the developers didn't realize this in time, and the game suffers from trying to do a lot poorly rather than doing a little well. I could go into more detail about the bugs and lack of polish or the tedium involved in playing the game, but how tolerable these are depend in part on playstyle, so I won't go into that. I'd say MOO3 is not worth the money. If you can get it for free and don't have anything better to do, sure, give it a whirl, it does have some good points. But expect to get frustrated with it after a few games.

I finally had a run-in with the Draginol this morning. Fortunately when I was advised to evacuate the system I'd already begun assembling an invasion force in preparation for taking out the Arceans. I immediately built a colony ship and evacuated the entire population while continuing to build my invasion force. Several months later the Draginol took over the system and I attacked with my invasion force the same turn and easily defeated them and recovered my system while only loosing one combat transport. With the Draginol no longer a threat I can proceed with my eventual and inevitable domination of the galaxy. :HOT:

Brad's blogging about the Lord of the Rings...

I think I'm seeing a pattern here. I believe the Draginol will not take over a system unless there is at least a certain percentage of population on it. As I chronicled in a previous post, I emptied the population and Draginol didn't appear. It was several turns later, after I had put a little population back into the system, that the event occured. Of course, I was waiting with Combat Transports (well...it only took one). It appears if you get the message that an evil force is growing on one of your planets, you should empty the planet, build some Combat Transports, then put a little population back into the planet. Drain the Draginol for an immediate payment (since you'll be taking them over the next turn) then invade. By the way, I didn't let Draginol stick around as I had been getting CTDs on the turn after and I didn't want to take any chances.

Brad appears to know a little too much about the Lord of the Rings! LOL

You know, it would be a cool game concept to design a game around the blue wizards that are never explained. I mean, as long as the original concept is continued, why not create an RPG that would encompass the journey of a group looking for the blue wizards.

Damn, now my imagination is running away and I'm thinking of a story...

I'm really impressed that he read the Silmarillion. I tried, but it's so DULL... it's like reading a history textbook, except without the cultural value.

They normally take several turns to appear anyway, IIRC. (I haven't had them for months now.)

Actually, I should explain that Draginol thing a bit further, vincible. I had a game saved the turn before Draginol took over the system. I tried many, many things to deter the takeover (trying to stop the CTD) and everytime I reloaded (restarted), Draginol appeared the next turn. It wasn't until I rushed a colony ship and had it auto-launch, emptying the system of population, that the Draginol event didn't occur. I guess I just linked the loss of population to the reason the event didn't take place.
