Most Bouncers ask if you have had too much to drink, at the Stoned Crow they say "Think you need a bit more inside you before you come in here"
End of quote

A couple weeks ago at the Courthouse, a bouncer let a chick do his job. She really enjoyed carding people and checking them for hidden weapons. ;)

Enjoy your breakfast, mate! Nothing like some greasy spring rolls the morning after! LOL

Wombie - Sergeant Hard will be able to sort out some military discipline here in a few days. Right now, he's still bouncing with joy over the empire being called "Special Forces". Oh yeah, I've got to bring the Sectoids too, so they can get up to speed breeding our special forces super-soldiers...

Geez, Wombie - you haven't started flipping coins and spouting stupid lines, have you?

If you need a wrong righted, a good deed done, then call us, and we'll be there.

Wait a minute! Nobody told me I'd be joining "The A-Team!"

The Muse will have to wait for a bit tonight...it's tough trying to concentrate on timeless prose when you're stuck on a mental image of BlueSteel saying "flibbertigibbet." :D Nice one, Killa!

Part 2: The European Alliance

Subtitled: Liberty, Equality, Fraternity! *

*Note: A number of languages from Old Europe were spoken here. For the ease of my readers, I have translated as well as I could. Europeans actually all seem to speak 10 or 12 languages fluently. Alas, I struggle with but one: Australian.

The Europeans lounged around their Lords of the Realm lounge, sophisticatedly.

Large windows looked onto the newly rebuilt Bastille. The subdued European afternoon sun basked the room in a dull, sombre glow. Dark mahogany furniture crouched in the lounge as if admonishing progress and practicality. Plush, Belgian carpet dulled every sound. The air was redolent with tobacco smoke as it swirled in the heavy, still air. The leather armchairs held the nobility of Europe.

Lord Ophon imperiously waved his hand at the cognac-waiter, and raised his cognac tumbler. “Garcon! Top-up!”

The cognac-waiter glared at the Lord and muttered ‘merde’ under his breath, yet promptly refreshed Lord Ophon’s tumbler. Lord Ophon took a sip and sighed. “Bloody oath this is grouse stuff. Where’d we git it?”

Lord Ralph twirled his moustache. “Buggered if I know. It’s as dry as a dead dingos donger though”.

“Yea” said LordTheRon, “It ain’t my cupa tea. Still, yous galahs couldn’t tell the difference like, could yas?”

Lord Ophon grimaced, and sniped “Speak for yaself, ya pimped up Nancy boy”.

“I’m not from Nancy!” snarled Lord Ralph.

“Let it lay Lords” snapped Emperor G-Force with a chill in his rich, commanding voice. The gathered Lords of the Admiralty instantly became still. With a slight cringe, the gathered Lords watched as the Emperor pulled a Partagas from the humidor, snipped the end, lit, and took a slow, thoughtful puff. After a minute he exhaled and motioned to the waiting humidor-waiter. “Peon, take this rubbish from us! We wanted a Cohiba! A new posting awaits you peon, in…where are we sending failures these days?”

Lord Ophon chuckled, and muttered “To Brussels”. And then went pale: “T’was but a joke Your Magnificence”.

The Emperor’s glass snapped in his manicured clenched hand. “We consider that inappropriate. We shall send this peon to Glasgow instead. Away with you!” The peon fled from the lounge in tears.

Within minutes the gathered Lords watched as the Emperor was offered a Cohiba by the new humidor-waiter, snipped the end, lit, and took a slow, thoughtful puff. “Better. Now to business. The Special Forces rep is here in a minute, and we’ve gotta stonewall ‘im”.

“Why my Glorious Emperor?” queried LordTheRon.

“They iz after money as usual. Apparently, setting up an empire costs credits…lots of credits. And ya know who has lots of moola”.

“Um…”

“Us! The European Alliance!”

In the thoughtful silence, Lord Ralph tweaked some snuff from his jewelled snuffbox and snorted loudly. Dabbing at his nose he whined, “But who here knows anything about money? That’s why we have hoi polloi. Money is so middle class. Something corner shop owners dabble in”. The other Lords muttered agreement. “Quite”. “Here, here”.

Before the Emperor could answer, an usher minced to the plush leather armchairs, leaned towards Emperor G-Force, and whispered quietly. The Emperor shushed the other aristocracy. “Their rep’s here. Ya know what to do”.
“Be ourselves?”
“Exactly”.

Hurley wandered into the room and peered through his glasses at the sitting Lords. Lord Ophon surged to his feet and held out a plump, moist hand. “G’Day mate. Was your flight OK? And grab a seat. I’m Lord of the Foreign Office”.

Hurley perched in an armchair and bowed his head to the Emperor. “Felicitations your Grandness. And to your Lordships. To whom do I have the pleasure of speaking?”

Lord Ophon made the introductions. “These chaps are LordTheRon Grand Admiral of the Admiralty, and Lord Ralph Chancellor of the Exchequer. Over there are Undersecretaries of the Foreign Office, named, ah…Aetheling and Andreas. The Undersecretaries nodded politely, and one said, “Actually, we are Aaberg and Aldebert”.

“Whatever” said Lord Ophon. He turned to Ambassador Hurley: “Now explain yaself mate. Ya want some dough?”

Hurley briefly studied each noble face. Culture, refinement and sophistication ooze from their faces like fat from a chico roll, he thought. “Know my Lords, that the Special Forces are at your disposal. We are not the A-Team, but we are indeed anxious to receive commissions from the noble Europeans, whom we have always looked up to, should such be forthcoming. Why, with all of the enemies you Europeans have made over the centuries, there must be some little job that we could undertake, for an appropriate fee of course”.

Lord Ophon nodded, whilst thinking 'Do they all spout such stupid lines'. He said, “Quite an interesting proposal. We’ve certainly got some kangaroos loose in the top paddock that need to be dealt with. I suggest we set up a committee or two and draft some terms of reference…”

“We’ll need a referendum before establishing a committee” said LordTheRon.
“But not in the Manx Tynwald of course” interjected Lord Ralph.
“We know that! But didn’t Ireland indicate no further referendums this year?”
“That was Denmark”.
“And the German elections are next month…bad timing there”.
“Indeed. And don’t forget the English!”
“Who could forget the English!”
“Belgium will go along with The Netherlands”.
“They will not!”
“And…”

And there we must leave the scene. As can be imagined, the negotiations went for several months without any conclusion. Nonetheless, Ambassador Hurley used his time wisely, and before returning home, had his first glass of champagne in Champagne, his first taste of Parmesan in Parma and his first use of a French letter in France.

Final notes:
1. ‘merde’ can mean many things including ‘bugger’.
2. As Impune Lacessit goes on incessantly about, Europeans actually all love each other and never disagree. And they are generous to a fault.
3. Hurls, I made up the French letter thing for a laugh.

The Saga Derailed
Or, How to Cure a Hangover in 30 Seconds or Less

Brief note: This story is a direct continuation of Post #36. The astute reader will note several continuity errors when compared to subsequent prose. They can be explained as follows:

Post #45 - A Welcome to CypherPax. During his unconscious, drunken dementia, Obi-Wan established a Force-powered telepathic link with the still (allegedly) conscious Special Forces members. The fact that they didn't notice that they were speaking to someone who was, in fact, passed out in a lounge chair shows that they weren't nearly as sober as they thought they were.

Post #53 - Field-Servicing a Transmogrifier, and #54, Gerakken Checks In. Correct in all respects.

Post #65 - A Quiet Interlude with a Koala and Hot Chocolate - Unknown, but possibly a drunken projection of Killa's desire for cultured, refined companions. Lord knows he won't find any here.

And now, back to our story...

...Obi-Wan awoke feeling as if an army of Jawas was attacking the inside of his forehead. He tried to grab his head, but realized his arms were tied down.

"Wha...whazzappining..."

Jaws glanced up. "Good on ya, mate, you're awake. I won the bet! I said you'd be out somewhere between 12 and 15 hours, and it's only been 14:25!"

"Why...am I tied down..."

"Oh, that's the safest way to take a hit from the Transmogrifier. DNA scrambling and all that. If you flail around you might lose an arm."

Now fully alert - and quite sober (well, mostly) - Obi-Wan flinched. "Transmogrifier? Wombie, where are you? You didn't mention any-"

Wombie shuffled into view. "Well, we thought the last one went down with the Captain-" The other members of the Special Forces briefly bowed their heads. "-but Killa found the original prototype in a wine barrel. At first we thought it wasn't going to work, because the fuel cell ran out-"

Quack stumbled forward. "But then, I thought, Obi's got that BEEEEYOOOTIFUL schnapps, and that ought to fuel just about ANYTHING. It fueled me up right, but of course I have a pretty low body weight. So, why not pour what's left in the Transmogrifier and see what happens?"

Obi-Wan stared at the purple duck. "You're joking."

...

Ten minutes later, the sound of screaming still resounded through the reinforced steel door. Killa and Wombie were comparing notes in the foyer while Jaws, Quack and Cypher wrestled with the stubborn Transmogrifier and its more stubborn test subject back in the room.

Wombie frowned. "OK, we knew that thing was a little off, but it's not even changing him into animals - just different humans! Who did we come up with so far?"

Killa checked off the list:

Humphrey Bogart
George Thorgood
Sean Connery
Ted Kennedy
And more...

Wombie nodded; it was as they had feared. "All famous alcoholics."

Killa shrugged. "The Transmogrifier is obviously screwed up, and I don't think running it on schnapps was a very good idea."

Wombie suddenly grabbed the notes and looked more closely. "Wait a minute - I didn't see him do this! I must have been in the loo. 'Spuds McKenzie?' You had an animal - OK, a DOG, but at least an animal - why did you hit him with the Transmogrifier again?!?"

Killa gazed sternly at Wombie for several seconds. Then, the wombat slowly hung his head. In unison, the comrades uttered a word so terrible that their very souls shivered...

"BUDWEISER."

The door briefly opened, and Quack waddled quickly through the opening. The screaming was deafening until the duck could get the door closed again. In response to the questioning looks on the faces of his mates, he nodded. "Yep. Still going. I told Jaws and Cypher that if we get back to George Thorgood, might as well stop for awhile. We could use some tunes."

LOL LOL LOL LOL Oh wait...Budweiser.... :sniff!:

And hey - try this icon on for size. Free beer if you can tell me what it is. Mmmm...still looks stuffed in small size, great on the big board though.

(Obi-Wan considers frantically searching the Internet to score some free beer...nah, it's 11:48 PM and it's been a long day)

Not a clue...if I had to make a guess more specific than "insignia from somewhere on Earth," I'd guess a Special Forces badge. Australian? It's not USA.

And you're right - it's nifty but does look a little bit squashed on the profiles. Then again, most Empires' logos do.

It's not an army unit/corps badge... a few states have upside down stars on their cop badges - don't recognize that one, but. :notsure:
Oh my...it's supposed to be the Medal of Honor (ie the Congressional Medal, I presumed - US). I got it from a site Quack suggested (thanks mate - some nice ones there). I've got some more to work through - Silver star, Sgt. stripes, there's actually a "special forces" one and a gold star. The real challenge is getting one that comes up sharp in the forums. The original files are icons and I'm using an icon editor to convert them to .jpgs (my Adobe Photoshop Elements won't load ico files) and it seems to decrease their quality marginally, too. It's no big deal, I'm having fun doing it - just like to find that REALLY good one, you know? And I did think the Medal of Honor was fitting... ;)

MM77 - I'm sure we could send you the original icon. You could replace every on your desktop with it. Have a crowd of techno-looking animals watching you wherever you go.

Hey, sign up and your vote will count for double!

Now, I've got to try and get some sleep with that transmogrifier shaking up the Retox. I'd forgotten how loud that thing was.

It would have been fun to keep Obi-Wan as Sean Connery. We could have him and Jaws arguing about who made the better secret agent :)

OK, Wombie, if you're keeping score. One very, very, VERY emphatic "No" vote on the current icon. Granted, it's not from a member, but it's not wise to annoy somebody so close to the divine one.

Actually, I thought Pierce Brosnan made a better Bond than Connery - not as rough around the edges. You need a lot of style to look at home with a martini glass; Connery was definitely more of a "bourbon-on-the-rocks" look. But both of them were a quantum leap above prissy little Roger Moore, who really should have been drinking pina coladas with little paper umbrellas.

Oops.

Did some digging while hiding my head in shame. I didn't know the CMH had three flavors; the only one that I'd ever seen was the Navy version. A fine job I'm doing of upholding the American side of this empire!
