Consider this, there was president that was impeached on a technicality about his lovelife. While technically guilty of infidelity the lie did not endanger or affect civil liberty in any way, shape, or form. Then came along a guy that did do things that affected peoples day to day life. If people found a way to be pissed off about infidility and the dishonesty to protect it, why is it absurd to actually criticism a big change? The change is

You quoted what the 'perceived' left was guilty of in his opinion. Why cant you read what you quote? Or is it just a comprehension problem? You aren't seeing what I am getting at. Fine - let us take the long road around.... Taking a stand for civil liberties is nothing new. As Brad resear

Why am I remind of the article that the constitution is just a "goddamn piece of paper" article. It was so banal it was fitting. All I can say is if you are concerned with the current grab for liberty I would watch how gonzales replaces "president" with "commander in chief" in an attempt to perpetuate wartime powers. He's sneaky enough to try.

The point being, whether you agree or not with the President's policy with regards to monitoring suspected terrorist agents, shrieking that Bush should be impeached is absurd. At most, the issue is murky and will need to be resolved by the courts at some time. But it is quite in line with historical precedence. </TABLE

I noticed the article two days ago. I really wish Doug Thompson would learn english and quote specific parties. The idea is explosive but proving it will be very difficult. We simply need more details before commenting further.

There's your definition of a "pasty pile of goo." We'll have to agree to disagree on the definition because it certainly isn't mine. I'll word this as passively as possible. I think where we part ways (and therefore opposing views) is a concern for the people. In your view vocali

Remember ol' Ariel Sharon was from a farming family and made his way to politcs through the military. I do not like the man but he is always a realist and I find those who actually did time in the military are realists. So a true military man knows when the use of force is justified, when it is not, when it won't accomoplish a given task, and when to distance himself from ideology. Take note because he is now forming a splinter group

You know this is one time where I actually agree with you. Unfortunately Murtha should have mouthed off and said his piece back in 03 instead of being after the fact now. It just seems so partisan. He should have had the balls to say his piece when he actually could have done something instead of taking a wait and see approach. I would have never given the reds the benefit of doubt and knew any contemplation of success was impossible given the

because the cheaper the labor, the easier to trade. At first glance I would agree with you. But opening up closed grain markets in the americas would devastate them because of the current subsidization in agriculture. When most of the market is geared to selling food and then is undercut.... well you

Mexico does not have as many nationalized assets as Venezuala does. Chavez could no longer rule and double dip from his oil fund and be part of an idea such as this. So by accepting Nafta + Mexico exerts more pressure on the remaining south american countries including Chavez's. I have heard many times where Hugo spoke of unifying all of south america. He had proposed an idea last year of forming a trade block similar to the EU. Again NAFTA + puts that

The case revolves around the conflict that arises when nationalized assets become privatized. That is what Chavez complains about. For more on free trade two aka deep integration click here Link . Right now it must be stated that all regional assets like land, resources and water become a shared problem. For a developing country, the arguement is that this is one problem they do not need. Re

If it makes you feel any better Brad, the president has ordered his staff to attend ethics counselling. Funny but true Link he is determined to make other people pay lol. Sounds like he might be the type of guy to stock up on papal indulgences just for kicks. Anyone making bets that Mr. Cheney and Mr Rumsfeld will not be in attendance?

I wrote a lengthly piece but decided to table it because I hope at this point I think you have gotten the message. i. The deaths are a highly contenious issue and by bringing such a subject up, one opens themselves to alot of emotional criticism. Both ways. ii. The right to regime change automatically superimposes one set of beliefs, values and principles on another. Some call that hubris. iii. The notion of using war to pro

I have no problem with this either. Anyone who has spent time evaluating Exxon knows this rate was accomplished with a 9% percent profit margin. Some of the other companies hover around 10-12%. That's far less than google or just about any tech stock. We know the rise in price was not a return to the '73 price gouging but an increase in demand. Also note that Katina has still knocked out over 50% of the capacity to refine crude and

Latour you are slipping into the realm of statist ideals and existentialism. Buddy, you just opened a can of worms lol. That said I think we can expect more instances of Toledo to happen. The insecurity of globalism has translated into insecurities which manifested into the skinheads marching. In my opinion this is exactly the type of stuff Chomsky talks about as people of all sorts rebel out from excessive state pressure. More calls for domes

Oh c'mon you need to get like Ben and host Canadian Idol so people remember your face later in life with politics lol. I'll be honest latour, the NDP haven't earned my trust. It ain't PEI and we are west of the Manitobans. The problem I have with a heavy sociali

Take heart Dabe. People forget about the human rights charges levelled at George and Dick. They will have alot of trouble travelling once they leave office. It would set a wonderful precedent to see a former president and put in someone else's court and stuck in chains. People need to realize that presidents are not infallable. They also need to see american law as not the be-all, end all, and only way of determining guilt and conscience.<BR

Brad, I think you are over reacting. One of the concerns that highlighted Bush's first term was a tight knit, behind-closed-doors method of promotion. I would have figured people would have gotten used to the cronyism by now. Hey if the dems can accept it so can anyone! Remember the criticism levelled at Wolfowitz when he was promoted to the World Bank? People wanted more input than simply the president's good word. Critics felt m

If the Liberal whiners are right, and it was known for a long time that the NO levees were in such a mess, why wasn't it a celebrity cause? If Brad is anything like myself - there is pride of ownership. Something of an dead concept in the leasing world. There is pride in not making car payments. There is pride in driving something that is pleasing to YOU There is pride in enjoying the drive and not considering it an A to B commute like on a bus. I will add the other big pollutor, turnover. Good article. I'm in the same predicament. I've started walking to work as my car is 33 years old and not the most economical (though better than alot of SUVs!). I guess in my own way I am trying to offset the amount of fuel I burn each weak but using public transportation and my bike. The violence and mayhem going on in what is left of New Orleans also helps drive home (to me) how biased the reporting in Iraq has been.
