I just recently reread the books (gee, I wonder why? :D ) so my memory is fairly fresh. They blamed their difficulties Caradhras 'himself', not Saruman, because he (it?) doesn't like men. Now, whether Saruman decided to stir the pot (or not) isn't said, but it's the movie where it's clearly spelled out that Saruman is involved.

I'd go digital. Saves S&H, and it doesn't exactly cost you anything.
Therefore my question is: is Elemental going to be a fun GAME out of the box, or will we have to wait for the community to build content for it? IMO, starting out with only 2 playable races already calls into question the whole "spiritual successor to MOM" line...
Don't forget, a lot of the engine level features are what creates the game :D This is a 4X; once you have a decent random map generator code (engine necessity) you don't need to muc
Graphics only equal gameplay up to a point. Yes you need some kind of graphical interface to play games, but once a certain level is reached, improved graphics are simply added eye candy which doesn't improve how battle are fought, cities are improved, or units move around. The best graphics in the world don't make the gameplay any better or worse then what the game is at its core mechanics. It makes it nicer to look at the first couple times, but af
Random hero: Aaaah, you killed my father, I want revenge... Saruman: Off course I killed him, he tried to ruin my evil plans. Random hero: Oh.... Well, guess he deserved it then. Sorry to bother you...
Precisely; Saruman doesn't just talk people out of things, he charms (in the magical sense) them.
That looks interesting... Very intersting... Dangit, I'm trying to reduce my spending! CURSE YOU IMPULSE! :D
(2) They just can't think of anything to add in for a third expansion, but I doubt that that's the case since it seems like they'd think of something as long as there were still money to be made.
It could be they've run out of ideas that can be practicaly done for an expansion.
Something else about this is that Saruman, who is supposedly "stronger" than Gandalf--at the beginning, at least--seems to use even less magic. The only thing I can really remember him doing is the storm on Caradhras (that was him, right?)
Movie, yes, books, no. In the books, Caradhras just doesn't like people trying to climb over it. But don't forget the chase scene, where he (albiet subtly) aids the orcs and hinders the rescuers. Any
Trying to balance that would be very, very hard.
And yet, that is exactly what SD has decided to do!
if the gains were closer to 'Mad Scientist' level (200%, instead of 40%, etc). why? if armor and hull points are upgraded at the same rate as weapon damages, then 200% is as good as 20%, its just another zero for the computer to think about...
Increases the differences between low tech and high tech players. So a playe rwho focuses on tech gets an even bigger advantage.
It's actually interesting how little Gandalf used direct power. Something I liked tremendously was that the most powerful acts of magic were the most subtle.
Agreed, that's always fascinated me. The power of the wizards seemed to lie less in throwing fire and lightning around, and more in subtle shifts and changes in the world around them. (During the chase of the orcs, 'soem strange will pits itself against [them]', speeding the orcs adn slowing the rescue
Can you elaborate on this, because that seemed pretty bizarre, like it's opposite day today or something... You sure do like to turn a perfectly reasonable statement and attach some nonsensical hyperbole on it as a label without providing any substance.
Patently absurd is a perfectly reasonable addition. As has been explained to you many times, by many people, 4X games place less emphasis on graphics than other games. So saying that they are impor

Just hit 'report' whenever he goes out of line, and eventually he'll get shut down.

Of course they are! The difference in scale makes that essential.

On top of which, the scale of Entrenchment compared to the scale of Horse Armor is... vastly different.
Actually, there is an install limit, it's just that you aren't going to run into it. They've done a superb job at hiding it from the average joe (I think it's time, rather than count, based, so if you upgrade every 6 months they don't care, it's if you install 10 times in one day they take note).
I think the only thing it does on the second core is texture stuff, I'm probably wrong though
Sounds about right. THe multi-core stuff was added a little late in the game, trying to fine-thread it any further than they managed would (probably) have required a complete rewrite of the engine. And while I knew that then, now that I'm taking CSCI 144 (OS's and drivers and threads, oh my!) I'm starting to really understand what that means.

Valhur, the problem with that post is "Schedules change". Sure, it was aimed for right around PAX... but there has been zero noise on the forums about it. And I'd expect at least a little noise if they were planning to start running the pre-order queue, so I have to assume it's not happening this week.
