I just wanted to point out that Buddhism isn't necessarily a religion, though often it is. True, but I think they felt it easier to group it together for the purposes of a pie chart.

I wonder if anyone can put a number on faith related deaths throughout the history of the world... If you just consider the faith-based killings of Hitler and Stalin you are looking at a pretty gruesome number.

"I contend we are both atheists, I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours." -Stephen F Roberts Stephen's quote has become rather popular, especially among athiests, because it po

If I can show them respect and understanding for believeing something I don't the leastthey can do is the same, with things like this there is no right or wrong, it's just personal choice! So true. I remember reading an article a while back that showed per

Good points Sally. These girls were worried of being rejected if they approached a guy, rejected from what exactly? A decent conversation, or were the actually looking to pick up guys? Very few people go to a pub/bar/club to find a decent conversation. That's not to say they go there just to h

Nice article, Sally. And I agree with you on pretty much every point. The Internet provides is denizens with a certain anonymity. We get to hide behind the screen. This allows us to say things that we might not say in face-to-face situations. There is a relaxation of the social covenants. I think this is a good thing, as it provides us a medium for expressing ideas in a more pure form. But some people use it to exaggerate their ideas. T

Do you know whether the religious followers in the South get as worked up over the idea of an agnostic or a believer in a different religion? My bad experiences were not with regligious followers in the South in general. I do not believe that this attitude was a characteristic of southerners. It was a spe

why do you then? Being in a relationship, that special companionship, offers opportunities for intimacy that you can not always get with your platonic friends. If it is with someone special, then you have someone with whom you can share special moments. You get the intimate insight of another person.

Thanks for the input Muggaz. If we didn't have faith debates though, imagine how boring and peaceful the earth would be! Faith debates like the Crusades or Islamic Jihad?

Do we want to be in relationships so we arent lonely and need to feel secure? Some people do. Many people even. But not all, and not me. Do we have relationships just for the sake of having a relationship? Same as above. Do we stay with our partners because we build our own guilded cages and cant bare the thought of leaving? Same as above

Recently someone on JoeUser asked me to explain how I adopted my personal belief system. That is not a tale I wish to tell, primarily because religious debate bores the hell out of me. I don’t like trying to change other people’s beliefs, and I appreciate the same respect. I esp

Just read it and have fun with it There you have it. If it makes you feel better, think of Sir Peter as the dark side of human nature. The selfish beast dressed up to tails. I've taken to calling him the monster from our Id. He says the things that, some of us at least, are thinking in the corners o

I'm glad you clarified those points. Why did you give up on church? I think that is a story that I might be interested in hearing, as long as you wish to tell it. I'm not sure if it is something I am ready to discuss. It wasn't a conclusion I came to easily, nor quickly. I tend to avoid discu

I can think but not speak basically. . . anyways, I still feel like I'm an awful person because of all this. I should have come out in the beginning and been honest the whole time. You can speak here. And don't worry about this. You are not an awful person! the very fact that you felt the need to re

14 and 16 can be an entire lifetime apart, though, although chronologically it's only two years..... 22 and 24 can be a lifetime apart... they were for me. But just because they can be does not mean they always are.

For the record, none of the 14 yr old girls I know would be thinking in these terms..... I've never known 14-year-olds to do this, but I have had personal experience with a couple of 16-year-olds. One tried to trap me after she had become pregnant because s
