Someone on one of my other threads recently asked me for my favorite books. I was about to respond, but then I thought that the list would be long enough to deserve its own thread. So after a brief inspection of my memory and bookcase I came up with some gems. I’m leaving out some of the more popular books that I have enjoyed, since I think they are rather obvious.

You still have to take a chance on the beautiful girls, because I have found some absolute pearlers out there, and they have all been through an ordeal of some sort... you can pretty much tell the shallow ones within 3 minutes anyways... I have to go with Muggaz on this one. Unless a girl is a very goo

I have a sign next to my computer that says, "There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who do not." But hey, yours is good too.

Really nice read. I'm so glad to hear when people like themselves. I am a firm believer that you can not truly love another before you love yourself.

What are some of you favorite books? I am always looking for new stuff to read. I think I'll post an article about some of my favorites. It's long enough to warrant it's own thread.

I don't know if I would qualify as a "source" but Dharma and I wrote a series of articles on this topic a while ago. Everyone is a source in my book. You no less than the expert quoted. <TD class="mb-Body-

This problem got so out of hand in the Army that male NCO's as a matter of course will *never* allow themselves to be alone with a female soldier. Yea, I had heard that from some of my friends in the Army. Living in Colorado Springs I've also heard quite a bit about the controversies at the Air Force

With the advent of sensationalism, however, the truly talented journalists are often hidden behind the tabloid-esque agenda that often dominates the front page. The problem is that they all want to be Woodward and Bernstein. They hear the legend, and how br

Very touching. With the media blitz and political soundbytes that assault us day in and day out, we sometimes forget the humanity that suffers from "world events". You think you have your opinions and perceptions lined up just right, and then you read something like this (or experience it as you have) and suddenly you realize you have just begun to understand.

Religion has no place in schools as far as I'm concerned. I'm a mechanist (a form of athiest), but I have to disagree with this statement. Religion does have a place in school... in a religion or philosophy class. My beef comes when they try to teach it in a science class.

I grew up in the 70's and 80's, when comics were very popular. My older brothers and their friends really exposed me to those little gems of drama, excitement, and sense of purpose. I stopped reading and collecting comics around '92, mostly for economic reasons. But in those years I learned a lot from those imaginary characters, and Spiderman was my favorite. His down-to-earth attitude, despite incredible power, along with his humor and humanity pr

Did you like the book or just Lancelot's character? It is my favorite depiction of the Arthurian legend. And many people have been exposed to it without knowing. The book is actually split into three books; each with a remarkably different style and theme. The first book deals with Arthur’s

I spent a year as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) while I was in graduate school, and three years as a faculty Lecturer afterwards. In that time I experienced many wonderful events, but also a couple of very concerning ones. I was always close to my students, especially as a GTA since I really wasn’t much older. Several of my students became close frien

Heavy rains threatened to flood the small town, and the authorities asked the residents to evacuate. Old Abe refused and sat on his front porch while his neighbors packed up. Abe’s friend Bill asked, “Why aren’t you packing, Abe? Didn’t you hear a flood is coming?” Abe replied, “I have faith in God. He loves me and will protect me.” Bill

what you say is much easier said than done There is one of the other meanings of the phrase. Words are easy, actions are hard. I did not mean to imply that this journey was quick or easy. It is neither. It takes, at least for me, a great deal of introspection and maturity. I hope you are able to ta
