Kruelgor: As the sheet says flak have anti very light damage. In the patch this damage type has been nerfed to do 75% versus light instead of the previous 100% (which isn't in the sheet yet). So the flak are actually a little worse vs LRM now then they were before. And there is the whole point of why the heck flak (anti strike craft vessels!) should counter LRM at all. It just makes no sense ... Anyway, flak are of cause still the best thing to do against LRM and in fact they ar

What about doubling Advent damage in 1.05? And at the same time you could switch all TEC and Advent names and graphics. That way you can claim "Hey, we made Advent super strong" and you keep your totally overpowered TEC to have fun with. Isn't that better then some cheat button?
What HuntingX said ;) He worded it much better then me, thanks. On a sidenote: People always complain. You could ship Sins for free and attack 100$ bills to the package and people some would ask to get 200$ with the game. It's the fate of developing a product for the masses. But rest assured that basically we all (or almost all ... I hope ;)) very much enjoy playing this game. If I didn't enjoy playing Sins to much I certainly wouldn't try to have it improved even further. I th
This is not an MMORPG. This is a strategy game. There is a HUGE difference. Yes, in delivering content (as I said: single player campaign stuff or something like that) ignoring the minority is the best way to go. It has to appeal to the majority to sell, there is no way around it. However, in terms of multiplayer balance exactly the opposite is true. I am not saying forum posters should be able to heavily influence other aspects of the game but balance discussion simply can not
I just listened to the recent IM podcast. The "vocal minority" in the forums is mentioned. This means: People posting stuff again and again while not representing any high percentage of the community. From the way it is mentioned in the podcast I assume you see this as a bad thing (noise on the forums which is hard to filter) and that you generally disregard this "vocal minority". This is a good way to handle single player suggestions. If a campaign only appeals to one guy and not to m
Sounds like the player vs player terretory battles MMORPG offer. And they are fun ;) I'd also love to see a game centered around these.
innociv: I don't think bombers should easily be able to counter flak. After all flak is there to shoot strike craft. It should not be counterable by strike craft ;) The problem is that strike craft are built for free. Having them too strong makes harassing strategies way too powerful. On the other hand having them weak (as they are now) it makes them useless in a streight-up fight. I do not see any way around this except maybe for charging money for strike craft to be built. Th
You can select the cap ship and have it leave the fleet for the retreat.
So what is the name? I think it was announced by now but I can't find the link anymore :(
World of Padman: http://padworld.myexp.de/index.php?news It's one of the best multiplayer-shooters ever created.
I very much dislike that most critics never give games from bug publishers less then 70%. Only a few indie games manage to drop below that scale. I think the average should be around 50% and not 80% like it is most of the time. Having a magazine that gives out real marks for games is quite refreshing. I might have to look into that one (but the name itself is very discouraging ... Games for Windows *urgs* I'd prefer "Games that run perfectly fine with Wine or bring a native Linux
R0fLz: I guess the majority of people disagreed with you ;) StarCraft was way more popular then Total Annihilation. I actually liked both but StarCraft and especially Broodwar are so much superior ... And how exactly was TA ahead of its time? What did it do that was so special and now got picked up by nearly every RTS released? The StarCraft races made it quite far in the gaming world as a rolemodel. And about every RTS has the basic interface now that StarCraft introduced it (double-click f
The funny thing is that it actually works. At least if you hold off the suicide until after the bounty was placed ;)
The culture cannon is not just a better broadcast center. It is fired like the TEC cannon but instead of doing damage to a planet it starts spreading culture from the targeted planet like crazy. So you have to shoot it and it works exactly like the TEC gun (select it, select the ability, shoot a scouted enemy planet). I find it rather useless ... it is nice to be able to have your own culture in any place in the system for an assault (negating the enemy his culture bonus and givi
It has all ships and what they are good against. Heavy cruisers are generally good for all races, as are a few support cruisers. Advent has the funny option to go with carrier cruisers and the Guardian with push. Vasari with Returning Armada has a quite balanced fleet (only support cruisers are missing which you then have to build). Versus the AI it's always possible to tech to RA without too many problems. For tech having many LRM is great, with a few flak to
But then the other guy has Sins on his computer with my key ... so he can keep updating it after the LAN?
Just an idea for a major patch or maybe the expansion: Why not tie the weapon tech to damage types? Right now we got phase missiles that deal anti very light and phase missiles that deal anti very heavy. Wouldn't it be cool to always have phase missiles as anti X and always have beams as anti Y ? Would require a rework of the techs involved as well but besides being cool it would also add strategic depth (upgrades would focus on which kind of ship you want to defeat).
Another thought: Why do people insist on making the same mistakes over and over again? Why do failed business models get adapted? We saw this with DRM which completely failed in the music and movie market and which also obviously (as GC Sins have "proven") failed in the gaming market. Intrusive DRM is making people not buy stuff for years now but the industry repeats their mistake over and over again and only now, after years, there seems to be change in just some parts of it (
Higher ship numbers are usually researched in the fleet logistics menu, its one icon below harmony / hostility.
Sounds great :) You could also try to get some old games on SDC / Impulse. There are quite a few games that I'd consider buying if they are available DRM-free and with no CD-hassle. As for Demigod: I really enjoy playing DotA (the war3 map Demigod is based on) but I doubt that Demigod can really enhance that experience. DotA is great and it's free (well, for those that own war3). Games I'd LOVE to see on SDC / Impulse and that I'd probably instantly buy: Dawn of War (maybe D
But is it really good for marketing? Of cause my friends and I are not a representative group but when we see a games for windows logo for us this is not a positive thing. In fact it makes me think "I hope this game doesn't use windows live crap for multiplayer" (Universe at War, a great strategy game, was totally ruined by that) or "I hope they didn't sacrifice their controller scheme for the stupid games for windows demands" and I am not the only one thinking like that ... <b
Just listening to the Bodcast with Brad in it when he is talking about Games for Windows. A few things about that: - I always hated mini launchers. For GC I created a manual shortcut to circumvent the launcher. It's just annoying and pointless. All settings can be done in game, why would anybody want a launcher and the extra clicks involved? - Why do people take that games for windows logo at all? Isn't it completely pointless? Who needs this big waste of space on the front
I think refinery price should be lowered in 1.04. There is no point in them costing nearly twice what trade ports do. It would make sense to have trade ports as credit boosters, making them expensive in metal and crystal but cheap in credits (200, 400, 200) and refineries as metal/crystal boosters, making them expensive in credits (2000, 100, 50). This would also help with TEC trade port dominance. With such prices it wouldn't be a question of "when will it break even" but "do I hav
How exactly is the OP to understand? In my previous post I assumed that it is mainly about keeping the game alive for the sake of it and trying to justify the financial means to do so. As I said, open-source it and your financial investment to keep it alive is exactly zero and you gain a lot of good reputation within the gaming community. I really don't get why old games aren't open-sourced on a regular basis. They don't produce revenue, there is nothing to gain from keeping them closed
No enemies left with planets owned. Maybe the TEC super weapon was on autocast and killed the last enemy planet without you noticing.
