Been using Fences for an age but I've "upgraded" to W10 - is the $9.99 for Fences 3 a one off payment or is it a yearly subscription?

Yeah, not wading through this just adding a comment for what it's worth. Stardock made and supported great games. Impulse was Google to Valve's Microsoft. Or something. Now we have neither to rely upon. Never say never but it'll be a while before I buy from Impulse again. Not until I see how Gamestop are treating people. AND Stardock support never got back to me about
Thanks for the suggestion Terry. That certainly looks like something.
I use the classic taskbar because I found the W7 one to be unintuitive. It looks neat but, and this is exactly what Tiles seems to address, you can't easily see what's running. Also, they ditched the quick-launcher which was dumb. The old taskbar doesn't scale very well but if I had that many things open at once my OCD would make my head explode. Having just moved to a widescreen monitor a few weeks ago, I'm still getting used to the extra acreage either side of where I'm generally loo
I figure once they're confident enough to release a demo, it'll be time to seriously look at buying the game.
One of the guys who works for us is called Karol, which is a Polish name. It's pronounced Carl.... at least that's what he insists.
Um. So 12 quid for the Sins expansion bundle, and 6 quid for Sins right now. Or 24 quid for the Trinity bundle. Gosh. Tough choice.
Stardock don't set the prices. If you've got a complaint about European pricing then take it up with the publisher. Majesty 2 has a download price five quid more that the RRP in the UK, and can be pre-ordered for £25 off amazon.co.uk Stardock are being mis-treated as badly as the customer, because they're not being allowed to compete with retail. Let's all just get over it.
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/08/17/the-very-high-seas-ai-war-fleet-command/ Pretty positive opinion on AI war over at RockPaperShotgun. I'm 99% sold on it. Any dissenting opinions?
@Spooky and Airforce - agreed to both of those suggestions.
"By Valve's own admission, it only has 20 million accounts" Remind me, who said that?
Um, remember it's publishers that generally insist on DRM, not devs. Egosoft are good guys. They publish with DRM but remove it as a matter of course later. They're also really mod friendly. Egosoft are probably my favourite devs still going and I HATE DRM. I'm not a robot, I understand that they're people who need to be paid so they have to do what their publisher tells them. Piranha Bytes are similar, in that with Gothic Three the original game had starforce but
Like the guy said, Egosoft has a history of releasing patches to "free up" their games. X3:TC apparently had some DRM on board that I didn't even care about because, no matter how bad it apparently is, it's going to disappear with a patch a year or so after release.Egosoft rocks. Their games are epic, buggy masterpieces. I love those guys. Stardock is a good fit for Egosoft and I love the Stardock model in many ways too. I just can't stand Brad and his chunky posturing.
I have a hypotheitcal wad of money set aside for when you start charging for Fences. It's a bigger wad than I care to think about. Economic collapse of the western world > what's fair to charge for fences > death taxes ssshhhh, we can beat them...
In fact my extrapolation from this is that the major existing publishers should just get their heads together and set up their own version of Steam/Impulse and cut out the digital middlemen altogether. Refuse to put their games onto Steam/Gamersgate/Directtodrive/Impulse and price match with retail. If noone else can distribute the games online then they've got a monopoly. Or would that be illegal? (I tried IE6 - it doesn't even render the page right. I'm running Win2k he
Waitaminute (I still can't edit my posts on here) I've thought of a flaw. I can set up a storefront offering my ubiquitous download for a dollar less than everyone else but put no money towards my infrastructure. FG is suggesting that my lower price should encourage the better equipped stores to lower their prices to match my price but that's just hurting the people who invest in servers. Once word gets out that you can buy from my cheapass store but download from a real
Oh and does this mean we can have Sins on Steam?
"Answer: Market forces. Basically, what I predict will happen is that part of every publisher agreement will be that digital distributors must support ALL their customers regardless of where it was purchased. " I was set to rubbish this idea but on reflection that would actually work. I bemoan the fact I can't get certain games on Steam, as an example, but eg Impulse does have them. When Steam and Impulse have different rosters and DRM (call it what you will) schemes I
Oh. Somebody already saw that. Shoulda read page 2 first... Why does this forum never work right under Firefox. With adblock. And noscript. (standard internet operating procedure for those that care). Can't edit my comments or I wouldn't be spamming. Sigh.
Oh, I'm assuming this is what they're responding to. http://store.steampowered.com/news/2372/
Ah, satire. For someone that keeps claiming Steam isn't the be all and end all of digital distribution, you sure go out of your way to comment on them.
World of Goo is for under a fiver (UK) on Steam at the moment. I don't understand most of these arguments above. Valve was LATE on SCOUT updates? If you bought the game as soon as it came out like the rest of us there was no talk of updates. The updates are a bonus. If you think there was some breach of promise then you should compare what was promised with what was heard in your head. I'm still ticked off with Stardock about the way they crapped all over the original Tota
Valve musta seen Brad's dig about special offers. Left4Dead half price on Steam this weekend... awesome deal.

To maintain the breakneck pace of this conversation I should really wait until May to reply but WTH - cheers! I'll give that a shot next time I get the urge to try Aveyond.
