Kryo, do you know how the galaxy setup(aka rare...to...abundant) works? Are these percentage values of the overall value, eg. # of Stars= common =^ 50% of a max val of stars for this mapsize ? Same with Habitable Planets. Or are these fixed values, and if what are the max stars(planets) for a given mapsize, in terms of gameengine? An example: MilkyWayMap Stars:220 Planets:76 AsteroidFields:98 The question aims at random galaxy creation, does the example come clo

Well, I'm sorry I didn't make clear, you can mod the surveyship, you only have to make sure, the name stays "surveyship" , I think. Anything else of the shiptype can be modded and will appear as you modded, however you can't remove the starting ships totally
I'm sorry to say, that is simply not possible, because the ingame mapgeneration requires those ships(even modded) for some reason. That means you have to live with the starting ships
It usually takes about 1-2 weeks to approve in the library, sometimes it's faster. The GalCiv2IDE (see stickied thread), with next version, will support datamodding. I'm curently working on the save function and it should be uo in a couple of days.
can you please post the debug.err?
Starnames are coming with 1.0.6.7, they'll get randomly read from stars.txt, if starname left blank, planets & asteroids will be named accordingly to parent star's name Concerning a random mapgen, I'll think about it after the new DataEditor module is done.
I googled for the "HRESULT 0x8007007E" error message. The supposed solution is, to download MS DxWebSetup and all should be fine. Please, to all who have this problem, and didn't download the directx sdk as suggested earlier, give some feedback if the downloadlink helped.
It'd would be nice if any bugreports go into the GlaCivIDE stickied thread... However, I googled for the HRESULT 0x8007007E error message. The supposed solution is, to download WWW Link dx websetup and all should be fine.
Temporarily just means, I still have to find the error, but you got it running. You can go with the sdk, but it was not intended that people have to download the quite big sdk
Actually, downloading the dx sdk is not a real solution. But it proves, that something must be wrong with the dx dlls delivered with galciv2ide, Since they are copies of the dll included in sdk. Therefore, if all works correctly, there wouldn't be the need to download sdk(~400MB). However, if it runs now, that is good news, temporariliy
may be because i have c: as win me D: as win xp pro Mrkorx so it is looking on C: drive and it is not there it is on D: Drive it needs to look to see what drive the game is installed on the only other thing my be i have GC2Builder installed and it works That's interesting, do you also run a dual win boot system, Borg35? However, once you are propted to select the GalCiv2Path on startup, that issue shouldn't matter. Next version, I'll try to t
It's a good idea to think about what you two have in commonm, maybe you two should probably not only consider hardware(?). @Anubis As borg said, it'd be kind if you posted your debugg.err, please sir nasty do this as well again, so we have all 3 debug.err together. Despite of this, I think your problem is related to software not hardware
Initialized: C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Data\CustomMaps\totalwar.gc2map MapEditor could not openC:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Data\CustomMaps\totalwar.gc2map That's wierd, the problem has been revealed, I need to investigate into this ... means the map gets loaded properly, which is good news, bad news, some
It's quite easy to make your own... Open abilitybonuses.xml, and keep it open. do the same with political parties. then create a new file copy one party entry to new file edit to you choise, thats where you need abilitybonuses to set bonus/penalty the id must be of course greater than the last ie. your ID= maxID+1 thats it save as xml into any modfolder
You could probably just read the registry key to get the language setting of the game. I'm not sure how many languages there are in total, but I do believe all the major ones in Europe were covered. Yes, that was the idea, which stroke me late
Thanks a lot, that info helps , but what other localized versions are out(besides german)? If I think about it, your answer is enough to solve the problem
@ Nasty I recall you are having .net 2.0 & 3.0 installed? If you don't actually need .net 3.0 for work, you could give an uninstall of 3.0 a chance. It might be an issue with the .net framework, but it could also be a senseless move
Kryo, another question appears, how is the naming convention for the localized game version, ie for german: Path=..\Data\German\german.str ? same pattern for french?, and how many localized versions do exist? It'd be nice to know, since the IDE currently uses filepaths depending on the english version.
I think stardock themself made use of xml comments(eg PlanetImprovements.xml), it shouldn't be a problem
Actually, I've played around with random map creation, the results were quite "humble". I'm not a big fan of that feature, because getting to a random generator, almost as good as stardock's ingame one, would take a big amount of time, if a lightning does't strike me instantly, delivering a good and easy solution for that Secondly, correct me if I'm wrong, I read somewhere, the gameengine is limited
@Sir Nasty Did it work for you by now?
Thanks kryo, that helps a lot
Kryo, is it possible to maybe delete the old stickied mapeditor thread, since a lot of links are posted in there. Some people may get confused. If you do, could you copy mr nastytangs last postings into that one? It's quite time consuming to keep 2 threads uptodate with same topic
Did you alter any original gamefiles(eg. GC2Ship.xml, raceconfig.xml)? The GalCiv2IDE requires untouched original gamefiles, since it reads the needed xml files on mapeditor startup. If that's the case, I suggest you should get the original files back in place. I'm currently working on mod support, however it won't alter the above requirement.
Hmm, actually I don't have a clue at the moment. Only thing I noticed you are running a quite "old" video driver dated 10/2006. May be try to update your video driver. Debug.err says nothing exceptional, because the 3d device and display got initialized properly, otherwise it would write an error message. What type of map(name,dl/da) did you try to open, the problem occurrs when creating a new map as well you said? Unfortunately I'm no hardware guru, so it might take a while to
