I like ME3 but the graphics are disappointing. It's not that it's ugly, it's just not up to par with other current gen titles. Dragon Age 2 looked better post DX11 patch...hope they'll do that here too. I'm basically taking it one mission at a time so it's going to be a long time before I finish, methinks. Lots of other games on my plate. Munch munch. Some of the plot bits are hilari
As long as consoles are 32 bit, 64 bit is not going to become the standard for games. Too much porting of console/PC games going on there. It give no incentive at all for companies that have a hand in the console business to develop 64 bit versions of games. It's going to be years still before 64 bit becomes commonplace due to that alone. Unfortunate.
The next gen of consoles as well as the coming death of XP may w
WHEN a new OS is shown to be clunky and disfunctional it flies in the face of 'what we do'.
Is it though? Old start menu takes what one, two, three, possibly four clicks to get to a program that isn't in the top six. New start menu takes two once you've pinned your fav apps to it. And of course you can pin to the taskbar just like with 7. It's just different, it's hardly dysfunction
I'm almost never actually IN Metro, I just use it mostly as a start menu. It's been changed since then (I had double pinned some stuff and hadn't added my other apps and so on.) The general usability is lacking in the app department so far, so I mostly ignore all that. Removed Solitaire
I really don't get how it's so hard to use. Hover here, right click there, some excellent options I didn't have before (like power tools when you right click at the bottom left...all the ones I ever need.) I'm sure MS will include some sort of Tour app just like they did with XP to deal with casual users. The Metro apps are things that should be full screen IMO. When I look at pics/PDFs they should be full screen by default. Other

Microsoft is constantly adding features and refining things that make Windows more useful, like Storage Spaces. That's a neat idea, although I'm still not sure why you wouldn't simply RAID instead. What I'm concerned about is that it has two UI's on it and you have to switch all the time. For example, user settings are split between classic Control Panel and
Wasn't Direct2Drive the service where they would only let you install a game a couple of times anyways? I think I bought SotS:Born of Blood from them and when I realized they'd only let me install it a couple times I never bought anything else from them.
Nope. They used to have a 5 activation limit, but it was easily reset by talking to customer service. What I personally hated was how many of their product
Gamefly is still adding their back catalog to the new service. Temporary inconvenience, and they did warn everyone beforehand. So...back to the original topic.
WEI is still 7.4 here.
I went all in and did an in place upgrade. Everything still works. There's a learning curve but once you get used to it it's quicker to use than 7. I got my SATA and eSATA drive set as a Storage Space pool and that's awesome. Uninstalled Perfectdisk and cFosSpeed before I dove in, since storage spaces autodefrag, my other disks are SSDs, and the networking is improved over 7. Uninstalled Adobe Reader for Metro Reader just now. There
As the annoying little shit in the Mazda commercials says, zoom zoom! I still love it. I got like two hours of sleep last night though so all you'll get from me right now is I got my Storage Spaces pool set up and am copying shiz to it.
unless someone just comes up with a dirt cheap touch interface for the desktop and gets rid of the mice/keyboard...
well, my AIO box that I sold off had a touchscreen...beautiful screen too. Of course, it being Win7 and having a mouse and kb I had no reason to use it.
It should have read "How to confuse the hell out of people 101"
I seriously don't get it. It took me about a half hour using the dev preview and I was comfortable with it. Which is why I laughed so hard at 'old dogs' =)
So, why doesn't Microsoft take the smarter route and make two different main versions of 8? A PC and Moblie Version, instead of integrating everything into one product? The desktop part being for PCs, Metro for mobile devices, and to share some (but not all) features across each platform. Why would mobile devices such as smartphones need a Desktop Mode anyway?
I don't believe the mobile vers
It just occured to me that most of the Windows release people seem to consider bad are transitional releases. ME/2000 were both kind of a transition point for XP. The good thing is now even the 'bad' releases are good, just different and need some work throughout the environment (MS, driver devs, program devs, etc.) I could pretend Vista was awful like the rest of the MS haters, but after about eight months it was a great OS. All the stupidity with OEMs con
Windows 2000: Bad
I skipped ME for 2000 and it was fantastic. Started at SP2 iirc so can't say how it was before that. Had some DRM issues with EA games but other than that I loved it.
Yeah that's fantastic, when you make it only show Vista and 7 users. Since XP users need not apply it was guaranteed that IEs marketshare would drop. I don't use IE9 because of the speed not the interface.
Anyway, I know Frogboy had issues with IE9 that I didn't also so...make of that what you will. I will have more to actually say when I have the download. (Apparently both my wireless bridges are crap, so I need to get a card. Whee)
you're kidding right? 95 was buggy as shit. 98 was ok but still buggy. 98SE was great. then ME came out and people were like 'what just happened?'
Really? You think we're going to see a Metro version of Office, Photoshop, or any of the other main apps that people use any time soon?
No I don't, and mainly because noone is going to make a Windows 8 only program meant for hundreds of thousands of people. That would be a mite silly...like a game requiring a GTX580 or 7970 or sommat. I don't expect high end apps to embrace it at all, really. &n
Once people get past the initial shock and WinRT apps start popping up it'll make a lot more sense. Speaking from the dev preview, once I learned it I loved it (aside from it very obviously being not ready.) Sadly won't have my copy of the CP til pretty late so I'll let ya know when that happens, but I enjoyed what I used.
I'm back online, sweet. Is it time to make an 'I have the power' joke? No? No, it never is. Oh well. Consider me pretending to have said something funny then. I'm sure that'll work. Meanwhile, in Minnesota, downloads are being prepared...
Well, aside from that it'd obviously take me some time to download, our power went out around 3:30 in the morning so it'll be a bit (probably a day or two really) before I'm loaded up.
