In the end though, by the time I meet them, they are truly addicts no matter how they got there. And the ones who have the hardest time leaving it behind are the ones who have nothing to live for
Really sad. Yet quite true.
Withdrawal symptoms on cessation can occur in anyone accustomed to long-term narcotic use, whether dependent or addicted (as I've defined the terms). Withdrawal by itself does not define addiction - the other destructive (to self and others) behavioral aspects need to also be present. In the dependent, narcotic use is motivated by the avoidance of or minimization of pain. In the addicted, it's motivated by the avoidance of withdrawal. It may seem in some resp
It's a difficult, convoluted problem (like I'm telling you something. Ha!). There is an understandable tendency to generalize and look at anyone needing daily analgesic medication as having a 'drug habit'. That phrase conjures up very negative connotations, needless to say. And if/when people who have become dependent on analgesics to function, the folks in the second group I described in my reply above, as opposed to addicted to th
I sprung for SlingTV (buy a Roku, get Sling 'free' for 3 months). Distinctly unimpressed. Got it mainly to access ESPN but it is fraught with frequent drops in resolution and complete drops in signal with a 'Loading...' message suddenly appearing for minutes at a time despite being on the cable internet connection via wifi. At this point, plan to cancel it once the 90 days are up. As for OTA antennas, the amplified Mohu Leaf works great (I'm about
I've chosen to live without cable TV (don't miss it in the least [e digicons]|-)[/e] ) so C-SPAN wasn't an option.
Trump supporters will blame Obama and Clinton if the Republican dismantling of the ACA blows up. Blind faith is not a virtue....
The ACA was the equivalent of a suicide bomber and our health care system its intended victim. Repairing the damage done by the ACA, designed like the rat tunnels in Vietnam with many booby traps to thwart that process, will not be simple or easy. But it won't 'blow up'.
Surely you've not forgotten 'Reset Button'? If given a choice between NSA & FSB/KGB, I'll take neither, thank you. A 'Russia friendly administration' doesn't concern me any more than it did in 2009, and I seriously doubt Trump would have sold a quarter of our uranium production to Russia. Or given the green light and boatloads of cash to Iran. I could care less about Trump's tax returns. Mine are (allegedly) private.
I'm pretty confident that nothing is silently uninstalled or disabled when your subscription runs out, Kiril_470. You will probably need to submit a ticket to Stardock support, as more information will probably be needed to fully understand your situation. Be sure to submit only once and wait for a reply - submitting another ticket or inquiry before an initial reply drops your ticket to the bottom of the queue. It may be of little solace to you now, but all the apps in
Having now read his address, this completely encompasses why he won and gives real hope that things may change for the better: “For too long, a small group in our nation’s capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost. Washington flourished—but the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered—but the jobs left, and the factories closed. The establishment protected itself but not the citizens of our country.&rdquo
Wrong, but becoming a fact of life, particularly with Win10. I'm with you on that score. Gates no doubt thought he was creating something cool, something that would liberate people and open vistas of knowledge & productivity unheard of before (which was true), only to now see it become increasingly a tool of control.
It's come to this: Kremlin 'election-related cyberattacks' concern me less than NSA, et al, 'election-related cyberattacks' (eg., Georgia, State of). No one has refuted (or even denied) the veracity of the leaked information, so whoever was responsible, it was never a 'disinformation' campaign. The whole 'Russia did it' ploy was just that, a diversionary tactic meant to divert attention away from the content of the leaked material.
Watched none of it because I can't stand the idiots who 'cover' it, so not able to offer my impressions. However, I will say I'm old enough to remember how W was treated at O's first inauguration.
I have the use/dependence/addiction conversation quite often. This is a little OT from a discussion of the physical and social effects of heroin use, so I apologize, but the 'opiod epidemic' in general has been getting a lot of press lately and has been, unfortunately, needlessly making the appropriate use of analgesic medications frightening to people. When it comes to the medical use of narcotic analgesics, it is relatively rare for someone to become addicted to them, gi
Looks like Adobe may also have silently updated the extension. Went to update it in my other rig and 15.1.0.4 was already there. As always, thanks again for the heads up, Doc.
Adobe issued a patch 2 days ago that fixed the vulnerability. Simple matter to update the extension: https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/acrobat/apsb17-03.html Once updated, the 'safe' version should be listed as 15.1.0.4. Fortunate for me, as I use it every day in my work.
Thanks for the heads up, Doc. Also saw a page pop up while using Google Chrome this morning announcing a 'Critical Chrome Update' with a button to click. Since Chrome does its own background updating, it was clearly a phishing page. Should be on the lookout for that, too. I was viewing only the legitimate websites I visit every day & it just popped open in a new tab.
Interesting. That appears to be a very pointed personal attack.
Sent you a PM, Monk.
Those Amendments got adopted by 'arduous' means. There is a legal mechanism to repeal them or add to them. That the mechanism is 'arduous' is a feature, not a bug. There is a rather large difference between the Constitution and 'legislation'. Not sure of your domicile, Monk, but the distinction is significant and important to (most of) us in the US. Most of us look upon attempts to 'get around' the Constitution and its Amendments,
Saw it today. Same sappy story, different actors (Inigo Montoya, Bucky Beaver). Great CGI, must admit. And a few truly funny lines. And the storm troopers could use a serious upgrade from that 40-year-old armor. That's it.

The particular FF theme I'm using (Glass - Blood) has a 'darkish' tab color that makes the black text harder to read. Not impossible, just much easier with white tab text. I could always change themes, but I like this one. Thanks again, Neil.
Good to know it was intentional, Neil. Thx. As it happens, having no issues in FF with 10.46 beta so will probably roll back to it on the other rig to make the tabs readable again. Regards, Daiwa
