Not to mention 'criminalise'!
Daiwa...I guessed correctly (response #2). [e digicons];)[/e] . Glad about that!
You were close, Doc. [e digicons]4*[/e] Not just on program update, but within an hour of the keys being deleted.
After a lengthy session with my tech guy, it appears probable that the reg key in question is actually being written by one of the antiransomware apps, most likely BitDefender Antiransomware, for reasons unclear. We actually found a set of two related keys in 6 different locations in the reg - CCleaner only found 1 set flagged as 'obsolete'. It may be part of a strategy to 'immunize' against Locky. One more little experiment to conduct before I can be sure.
[e digicons][/e] Need bail money? Behaviors (take murder) can rightfully be 'criminalized.' What behaviors qualify for criminalization is a legitimate political discussion. Opinions, speech, disagreements and other 'thought crimes' - not so much. IMHO [e digicons];P[/e] [e digicons][/e] I appreciate your thoughts, Elana. Back atcha.
I can't fathom the pain of losing a child, a very strong motivator for protecting them, which makes it hard for me to understand how a parent could be so cavalier.
Both the OP and I were very clearly referring to babies/toddlers.
Understand. Sorry to have taken it a little OT. Needless to say, protecting toddlers/babies is a different kettle of fish, witness people 'forgetting' their infant is in the car in Phoenix in the middle of the summer.
There's a fine line to be drawn when it comes to saying that parents are entirely responsible for (and should be entirely accountable for) the behavior/actions of their children. Some of the finest people I know have had children who made their lives miserable by acting out in nefarious ways. Also know some who virtually neglected their children, only to have them turn out to be fine people & model citizens. While we should as a society have a level of expectation
Well... This IS a rant thread.[e digicons]>:([/e] [e digicons]:banhammer:[/e]
Interesting, Uvah. I'm talking to my tech guy this morning on this issue. My first suspicion was that BitDefender had blocked a Locky attempt and that a harmless reg key was left behind. Now not so sure. I'll post back.
Always remember you have a bunch of friends here.
Good to hear from you, Mason. Here's hoping things get a bit more interesting but it's always good to know you're truckin' along (pardon the pun).
Reports are surfacing that he had a major prescription narcotic dependence, that he would get a 6-month supply of Fentanyl and Dilaudid at a time from his 'dealer'. How they end up in the hands of such a dealer (not a physician or pharmacist) is a mystery, if these reports turn out to be true. Lots of sadness to go around here no matter what.
McAfee's site says the presence of that specific reg key is indicative of infection, but so far no harm. I'll keep this thread updated.
Doc - I bought the 5-PC license for WinAntiRansomPlus and I'm running it alongside BitDefender AntiRansomware and MWB AntiRansomware. So far, they seem to be playing nice together. BitDefender goes about its business quietly without notifications but it may have blocked Locky on two of my rigs. I happened to spot an obsolete software key on each when running the CCleaner Registry cleaner yesterday: HKCU\Software\Locky. Which means I'm 'lucky'
KB3139929 uninstalls without a problem.
My assessment appears to have been premature. Uninstalling that update hosed IE11 & it's been crashing on opening ever since. Don't use it very often so didn't see the effect right away. Having to go through the process of reinstalling IE11 now, which has proven to be a bit convoluted.
Interestingly, he was a lot like Jeff Lynne in his talents, playing virtually all the instruments on many of his recordings. Maybe better to say Lynne was like Prince in that regard since Prince could play rings around anyone on guitar.
I've been using Vivaldi a bit and I'm definitely warming to it. One site I have to use regularly (a federal one, of course) doesn't behave well in Firefox (certain popup dialogs that you have to view are hazed out and unclickable) so I usually use IE11 for it. Uninstalling that last IE update managed to hose IE11 (keeps crashing when I open it) & I've not been able to get it re-installed yet so I tried the site in Vivaldi & no issues so far. I'm c
Been a while since I installed an OD app so maybe you do need to enter the OD serial number during initial install - Wiz's reply would suggest that.
Go to store.stardock.com and log in using the email address & password you used to create your account. Go the the My Downloads tab. You don't need a license per se (though one is generated), just valid credentials to download the apps you have purchased, which should be listed there individually on that page. I recommend you download each app installer and save it somewhere on your system. That way you have them forever & can reinstall them should the need

There's an update published today for BDAR. Popup notification should appear. Posting in case it doesn't.
Come on, psycho... stop holding back.
No offense, but I don't buy your premise or comparison, Elana. And I promise not to push for a law making you a criminal for having an opinion different than mine.
Welcome back, Jill!
