There's no special software to make skins. You make the graphics in a grapics program like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro or the Gimp Then you code the skin with an regular text editor. Besides the graphcis, a WMP skin consists of an XML file and a JScript (Javascript) file. You can find information on WMP skinning on the Miscrosoft link below. Unfortunately the current version cannot stream music or movies. Any such files have to reside on your harddrive. I have no idea whether they intend to support streaming in the future

I think that Deviant uses RSS (a standard XML schema for presenting news items (whether it's news itself, or new addtions) though I don't know if they do it for all categories. They defintely have RSS feeds for listing the newest Trillian skins

The standalone Object Media application uses the standard Window GUI elements (titlebar, toolbar, menus) so it's automatically skinned by WindowBlinds You can create freeform DXobject skins like pjpowell's BeetlePlayer that use DXPlayer to control ObjectMedia

Hi Stumpy Stardocks's IRC server is down because of the massive power outage that has affected the north east over here. MSBlast is worm that infects your computer when you're online. It takes advantage of a RPC buffer overrun flaw on XP. The worm installs MSBLAST.EXE in your windows system directory and adds itself to your registry's list of startup programs. I then crashes the RPC service, forcing the computer to reboot. You can kill the MSBlast.exe process running, delete it

You can pick any library category (WindowBlinds, Winamp) on the left hand side fo this page, then tell it to sort that cagetory by downloads. You can then look at the download count for the item in the top of that list

What do you mean by non-XP DesktopX themes? I don't think any of the desktop themes are specific to Windows XP. They'll run on Windows 2000. I'm not sure about Windows 95 / 98 / ME since they don't handle alpha blending and don't have the GDI resources that XP and 2000 have

If you go to your devart account settings, it seems the version 3 scheme is no longer available. There's only version 2 and Minimal. Actually, Minimal isn't all that bad. It looks light and clean and has little graphic ornamentation (hence the name minimal) The devart site is still extremely slow though

That's what Winstyles are for. You can define a theme that's comprised of various skins for example a windowblinds skin, a winamp skin, a wallpaper, and so on

Yeah you should have no real problem. JScript is just Microsoft's implementation of Javascript. Actually Microsoft submitted it to ECMA for standardization so it's also could be referred to as ECMAScript JScript, like VBScript, is an ActiveScript language (which can be hosted in any app) and has functionality beyond Javascript to work with COM/Automation objects

Gemstone, no you didn't embarrass yourself at all WindowsMedia skins are composed of bitmaps, an XML file (which is used to specify wher the bitmaps go, and a Javascript file to provide any more intelligence that the skin may need (animation, opening a window when button is clicked...) I'm using it now. It had a few problems with some skins. I'm using with the PiXOS skin which works fine except for some color issues in the main Trillian window. I edited the colors.xml file and now it looks fine. I really like how thye added the URL grabber directly into it rather than making its functionality skin-dependent.
