I made a fresh, clean install of galciv. I'll send ya a savegame, Brad.
It's a Done-button on the popup
Ummm I just got a military defeat victory...altho there are two races left, none as allied with me. Why did I win?
Umm dont remember right now. I dont ever get to press the button, it crashes when the popup shows. I'll play a game and see..
mmm the same with my WinXP without servicepacks. The latest .cra file I have is from June, before it broke.
Cari: No, it's my WinXP at home. I'll see what I can do about directx and sound drivers.
I didnt have a download problem.. Have you tried to delete the files in %temp% ?
I got bord and tried a couple of games. All crashes when somebody declares war on me.
If you want to try the windowed version, make sure you use 16-bit colordepth. Otherwise it doesnt work.
*Sigh* Ive had about 10 crashes in various places, not able to reproduce any of them. No hints in debug.err I'll refrain from doin further tests until I can get a copy of a working smartexception. I cant seem to help ya otherwise. Better put the testing-time when I can help..
The music is acting up when I enter planet-view. It plays one tune, pause a sec and plays that tune again. over and over. The UI behaves as some process is eating all CPU-power. As soon as I exit planet-view everything goes well again.
Hmm now I get it all the time. Gonna reboot and try again. Im trying the tiny galaxy. THe progress meter get's to 95% where the music stops and starts playing from beginning (or new tune - dont know). After that it crashes.
Got another crash at the same point with the same last lines of debug.err This time with the multimedia installed..
Dunno why, the debug.err gives no clue: Debug Message: ******* Starting Game Shell ******* Debug Message: Going Fullscreen Debug Message: RGB in format 5:6:5, Masks reported as f800:7e0:1f Debug Message: Now Fullscreen Debug Message: Shell initialization complete Debug Message: ***** Initializing Game ***** Debug Message: Timer Frequency is 0 369e99 Debug Message: Added fonts: VerdanaWhite11 VerdanaWhite12B VerdanaYellow11 VerdanaLtBlue11 VerdanaG
GC_EndCut.bik and the resnews_0*.bik seems to be downloaded both by the base install and the multimedia stuff. There might be others as well..
Ehh btw, it's not visible in the tray - is that a setting somewhere in the registry or in a .ini? (It IS running according to the task manager)
Yep, it's running. But no .cra-files in the directory where smartexception is.
Ehhh mine doesnt catch any crashes. Altho it's running and starts automaticly after reboots. It has worked before...but not lately. Not after the previous broken builds... Anything I can do to get it to work? (Im using WinXP btw)
Btw, I played without the multimedia component and got a huge load of: Debug Message: Attempt to play unregistered file Debug Message: Attempt to play unregistered file
I had a new game running, not even one turn old. Went to main-menu and started a new one. When pressign done on the race-selection screen it crashed to desktop. Smartexception doesnt seem to work on my PC, sadly. It's running - but doesnt catch any crashes. The last lines in my debug.err is: Debug Message: Creating Galaxy Debug Message: Set galaxy size. Debug Message: Reading Star Names
And ehhrrmm, what timezone is that? :) *eager to play*
It's a big number of files that are downloaded and decompressed..but on the other hand, doesnt the new resume feature in DGM work?
Well, I bet gherardo just ment that Brad might be able to give a special price if ordering drengin and the old OS/2 galciv gold.
