It's not about editing the skin at all, I rarely do that, unless something really doesn't work. I've NEVER liked the theme manager, and as far as I can see, MyColors is really just another version of the theme manager. When I've used the theme manager in the past, I've had assorted issues, and even when I didn't, what I wanted was one WB theme, another IP theme, etc. While I'm aware that I can change something after it's been applied, it seems pretty silly to me that I should need to apply a
Aleatoric
I already have. Doesn't change my assertion that we shouldn't be required to use another theme manager when the apps we have are entirely acceptable for the purpose.
Latest of everything, updated via Impulse. Every time I use MyColors, WB gets fubar. If it's relevant, Vista Ultimate 32bit version Even if it worked correctly, all of the time, why should we have to install yet another application to get a premium skin? I think the MyColors idea is fine for those who don't have (or want) the whole OD thing, but for those of us who do have OD, we should be given the option of getting the skins in the native format, so we can use them as is, with
- Install MyColors - Open MyColors and install Magic/Pirate - Close MyColors and Open WindowBlinds - Choose Magic or Pirate and clic Apply - Open IconPackager - Choose Magic or Pirate and clic Apply
That works until you reboot or want to change your skin using WindowBlinds, then all you get is a horked (nearly classic) skin, and it doesn't ever work again until you uninstall and reinstall WindowBlinds. Or, at least, that's what happens to me EVERY time I use the
The thing I don't like about the MyColors stuff is the dependence on the installed MyColors app (and the implicit theme manager behaviour). I've already had some issues with the MyColors install, I've had to uninstall and reinstall windowblinds to make things work correctly. I'm not opposed to the *idea* of MyColors, I'd just like to be able to apply the theme without having to install what I consider to be an unnecessary app to do it. Let those of us who already have WB, etc., just do
I have dual widescreen monitors (1680x1050) on my desktop and a widescreen laptop (1900x1200). Haven't done the normal 4:3 monitor in ages (except at work, where they're still living in the past :) ) Can't imagine going back to non widescreen monitors, the extra screen space comes in handy. Wallpapers are sometimes a bit of an issue, but I get some from digital blasphemy, and they work well.
Should have also mentioned that this is a pretty good list, to start with :) I would add get the new skinstudio all cinched up and I would like to see a Vista version of WindowFX. Sounds like there's lots to look forward to.
WindowFX on Vista = StyleVista.
? An alpha released nearly a year ago, that would let you recolor your Aero window borders, is the heir apparent to WindowFX? Not without an astonishing level of additional work. If Stardock can't manage to make something for Vista that, *at least* encompasses what WindowFX could do (and even better, MUCH MORE), I can't really see a reason to bother. Changing border colors *isn't* WindowFX.
However the current Ctrl+Shift+V key (will be customizable) is used exactly for toggling CFX on/off when necessary
Cool. It would be useful to have a tab in the app (or at least a text file) that tells us what all of the hot key values are :) I'm guessing that since the hot keys will eventually be customizable, that tab will also show the defaults.
Does choosing the Windows default unload it (like Windowblindes does)? Consistency counts Yes.
I didn't think of that :) Getting the keyboard navigation working would be very useful for when the cursor disappears (even selecting the default windows cursor doesn't work in some cases, and only an unload/restart gets it back).
By design CursorFX should disable and show Windows cursors over remote sessions. This is for performance reasons. If you get totally blank cursors instead, that is a bug we can look into.
Yep, it's entirely blank. :)
This might already be in the plans, but CFX should have the ability to specifically unload (or disable) from within the application (or maybe mouse control panel integration like CXP). Right now, all the unloads I'm doing require death by task manager.
One more ... Cursor won't show when using a remote desktop session (CFX on the remote desktop). Only mention this since CXP did work over the remote session, even if it could be kind of slow at times. Vista local machine, XP remote machine, CFX Plus, Aqualix.
Further info on the dynamic shadows (both XP and Vista). On original apply (once selecting dynamic mode), the cursor disappears. On a complete unload and restart after that, the dynamic shadows appear to be working, and subsequent applies (after changing some settings) seem to work fine. However, the light adjustment settings don't appear to do anything (regardless of setting, the shadow looks exactly the same). The various settings sliders should be labeled such that you know
I've also verified the vanishing cursor in dynamic shadow mode in XP as well.
When you double click on a CursorXP theme, whether you choose to apply at that time or not, the theme does not show in the cursors list until the program is restarted. The list should be able to refresh when a new theme is added without requiring a restart.
I'd like to see CFX get the ability to accept drag and drop from explorer to add new themes, especially if there's a large list of them.
Well, I said there might be more :) None of the slider controls can be moved with the keyboard, and you can't move the slider by clicking in the slider trough. Even though they're pretty self-explanatory, the various option icons in the highlighted cursor list item (info, preview, edit, etc.) should display a tip (and the ones like web and email should actually display the address that will be acted upon). Deleting a cursor theme from the CFX cursors window doesn't p
CFX Plus, Vista, Aqualix (but shows up with any cursor). Trying to set to dynamic shadow causes the cursor to disappear entirely. I have to kill CFX and restart it to correct the issue (even when I use control panel to reset to the default windows cursor, CFX won't change the cursor unless it's killed and restarted). Also, when setting the smoothness setting fairly high, the actual cursor hotspot can lead the cursor image by a noticeable degree, when the cursor is moved fairly
(Using the free version). Here's another issue I've found... I can import and apply a CursorXP theme, but it doesn't show up in the list of available cursors in the UI list. I know it's a beta, but this seems like an obvious requirement (imported themes should appear in the list of available cursors). Also, while the settings changes do apply, they don't show the imported cursor in the preview portion of the screen. Also, since I was already running CursorXP, I had to
Well, there's one issue when trying to use the upgrade page for CursorFX. When I enter my (valid) CursorXP serial, I get an error that says "Your CursorXP registration could not be found". It works correctly in Stardock Central, though, and it's the exact value in the support email. Guess this part isn't working yet. Since CursorXP works fine for me under Vista, what compelling reason (apart from what looks like a pretty good UI) is there for me to upgrade (especially co
What about those who purchased CursorXP long before 2 months ago? And will this ever show up in the Misc section of Stardock Central? Sounds interesting, and I might play with the free version, but since I've bought the full version of CursorXP, it would be nice to know what the upgrade path might be. Do past purchasers have to repurchase this app?
So, how's it going? :) I'm ready for a version of this that doesn't have 'demo' written all over it :D Okay, I'm not really all that impatient, but it seems like a good idea to be a pest at this point :)
Ah well. Looks pretty awesome as it is, anyway Fantastic work.
Been playing with the sampler, this thing is very nice! I'll definitely pick this up once it's out. I like the current menus, but I think they might be even better if they were more like the 'glass' panels in the start menu (just a thought ). Great stuff, and it's cool to have this thread where we can see the process.
