Stardock is happy to announce a new opt-in for Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation v2.93 today. This new version of the game improves the game's benchmark, adds new maps and contains many balance updates. Couple things you can try that come to mind: Easiest is to flush config Steam by doing this: Exit Steam client, then Win+R (opens Run dialog); type: steam://flushconfig This will ask you to confirm that you want to reset Steam's data, say yes (you will need to re-login to Steam and redo any Steam client settings, special beta branches, etc.). The v2.10 update is now live on Steam. To answer jpinard - achievements will trigger in beta builds; not sure on the save games - probably depends on if we changed something specific to the mission.

The file is part of the Visual C++ redistributable that should have been installed on first-run. If you go to where Steam installed the game, look in the _CommonRedist directory and run all the installers: DXSETUP.exe vcredist_x64.exe (for both 2010 and 2012) vcredist_x86.exe (for both 2010 and 2012)

Essentially, prior to when the events in the game start, humans sent out probes through the galaxy to discover planets and prepare them for eventual use (hence why there are Power/Computronium Generators and various resource mines already laid out). This all happened before the split between the Substrate and PHC, so both factions have the data on where these worlds are.
A few quick responses: re: FoW - This is something we've discussed a bit internally already, but haven't made any final decisions on. What I'd like to see is the 2-layer FoW for single-player scenarios and the single stage for multiplayer (so that you don't waste time just finding out the layout). re: Map Editor - We haven't even unofficially released this; some of you just got inspired and unlocked it on your own. :P It's definitely not ready for
