Lantec has a very, very good point. You can buy the iPod EVERYWHERE and it is the market leader at a Microsoft OS level for MP3 players. So Apple has just sabotaged themselves from the possibility of becoming a major cell phone player to yet another niche. Sigh.

Thanks Zubaz. Since I'm running this test machine on Vista, I only have ObjectDock, Stardock Centray, Control Tray, DeskScapes, and LogonStudio Vista installed. I think I manually checked "Enable MCP SmartStartup" when I saw that OD re-enabled system tray support for Vista in a recent beta. I've now unchecked that and unchecked "Enable MCP notification area support" as well. Those items made sdmpc.exe disappear from the running tasks. Um, if OD doesn't need sdmcp.exe anymore, why is it still running on my machine? Should I remove/disable it? Should I wait for a Stardock update to take care of this? What's the scoop?
My favorite bug was that I had the same applet running on two computers side by side, with the same zip code, and each one always had a different temperature than the other, hehe. I assume this was due to being on different update schedules (re: one was lagged a few hours), but I still enjoyed watching them work the bugs out in realtime. The key used to be color management. That edge went away with XP and OS X, which became equals in that regard. The rest was just really good marketing by Apple/Steve Jobs while MS kept shooting themselves in the foot. I liked the behavior of the messenger icons, so I for one would like a checkbox (or new solution that makes you happy) for that. if that isn't a folder icon, there is also a setting, new to 1.9, where you can choose for OD to show (or not show) NON-minimized applications on the dock. So if you can see an icon on the dock when the app/window is minimized, but not when it is opened, look there and change that new setting.
Um, I can see TWO folders open in the dock...that little computer icon with a 2 over it? Or am I missing something? If I'm right, you can turn off the stacking of folders/programs so that each one gets it's own icon in the general preferences I believe.

I appreciate the nostalgia factor, but to be clear, the Amiga OS was vastly superior in every regard listed above to the Mac OS, OS/2, and Windows flavors of the day. So let's not over-emphasize how "incredibly advanced" OS/2 actually wasn't, m'kay? It was at best a solid third behind the Amiga and even the early Atari OS's.
Your main card (fastest, highest on board memory) would be AGP and have two monitor outs, connected to two monitors. You'd add a PCI card (preferably the same brand and similar chipset rev to the other card) to cover the third monitor. Windows XP will handle enabling the rest. Software that comes with the video card drivers will give you more control over how you use them together. Agreed with barsinister. Office 2007, while massively overpriced in today's market, is the first version of Office actually worth buying since Office 97...yes, a decade to get an office version that makes a real difference.
I'm now running into the same thing. Installing the new WB 5.5 (first WB install under Vista) and aero gets disabled and no skins support. I will try your solution and see if I can "fix" whatever is not working.
The fact that UAC doesn't remember anything is indeed the big issue. I don't think Stardock should get involved, but I do appreciate the fact that they are willing to bring this issue out and hopefully embarrass Microsoft into addressing this "UAC Amnesia" issue. UAC Amnesia, hehehe, I like that.
I'm seeing a lot of valid points here - on BOTH sides. Here's my take. The "anti-Stardock" side: 1) Poor timing. The product isn't really even out of beta yet, due to early code, poor Vista drivers, and probably a Vista bug or two to squash. If you using Nvidia, DEFINITELY upgrade to the 100.64 drivers (or the 100.65 WHQLs here ). MPEG over WMV is critical. Don't even try WMV until we all see some serious hardware acceleration for it.
Did you upgrade your XP install to Vista or do a clean install? XP users were getting the wrong WB over the weekend. I wonder if there is a registry entry/etc. left behind if one upgrades to Vista?
Here is a typical Vista peculiarity - clearly beyond the capability of normal end-users to solve themselves: I'm a power user. I run this test machine as Administrator.
