Ah ha! Seems this is fixed in the later version of BootSkin - thanks to the BootSkin news group and Ian Hanschen's message there: "Could you please try downloading the build from http://storage.stardock.com/files/bootskin_free.exe and see if you can reproduce the issue? We fixed an error shortly after 1.0 release that was causing BootSkin to interfere with the hibernation screen, need to check if it's the same. Thanks! -Ian" This seems to have fixed it

Yep...he's right! BootSkin kills XP on this laptop when it tries to hibernate, and I think I know why too. Stumpy said it works by pointing a variable somewhere else to load the boot graphics...well, when hibernating, XP displays a similar graphic to the boot one (same sort of scrolling progress bar) and when I have BootSkin loaded, this "hibernating now" graphic isn't displayed, and the machine locks without ever shutting down. I think that XP is looking for the hibernating l

Hmmm, I hate to re-open the "BootSkin stops a computer hibernating properly" issue as it got a bit unpleasant there, but...Recently, this laptop has been failing to hibernate properly, and having read this thread it probably coincides with installing Bootskin. I'm just about to turn off BootSkin, re-boot and then try hibernating, and if it works then I would have to conclude that there IS an issue...regardless of how unexpected and unpredicatable that might be...I'll get back to this thread in

Tiggz - would the 2 which haven't been touched for ages be considered required reading for new users? IMO not, though from the authors and the subject matter I suspect they'd stay. HG_Eliminator - I agree...but if some people do wish to trim the fat, then maybe the more advanced ones could be rolled up into a single FAQ thread with links to the details in other threads? In fact, why not have an FAQ thread made sticky? Get a good list of items together through discussion, get

I agree that 10 is excessive. Of the sticky ones at the moment: March Desktops => float...if it's popular, it'll stay near the top MSStyles => help board Bootskin => help board Affiliates => Unstick and sink? 27 days un added to after all Blogging => unstick and sink 38 days un added to Add back the ones that would really help people who can't even find the help board such as "Waaaaah, my wallpaper is better than everything else on this sit

#11 but there are also laws against file sharing and it Er..what laws might that be? Unless I missed something, in principal, there is nothing wrong with sharing files on a peer to peer network or any other system (like here for instance!), only when copyright is being infringed or other laws broken is it a problem.

Your frustration at not getting an e-mail is understandable, but the admins/moderators here have their reasons for that. See this thread https://www.wincustomize.com/msgboard.asp?BID=WC&id=253773 - which should have been "sticky" and hence at the top of the list so that you'd find it before you asked...can someone re-sticky it, and then lock it?

paxx - very true, except that the details of the file type are kept in an area called a resource fork, and the file itself is kept in the data fork. Also, most Macs have a little tool called PC Exchange installed which looks for PC file extensions and will set the creator and filetype IDs to predetermined settings suitable for a Mac application to then recognise. Graphics Converter is a great tool too as it'll open just about any file you throw at it regardless of the Creator/type sett

the closest I've seen to what I think people with real taste are looking for. Hmmm - whilst I agree with you that a lot of themes/skins here (and everywhere else) tend to be of a kind (guilty myself) this phrase implies that what you like is the only thing that can be "real taste"...and of course anything you don't like is poor tast

For Zips on a Mac, I used to use a program from Aladin called Stuff-it Expander...most later Mac OS version I used (8 and 9) included a freebie version by default I seem to recall. If you have something like this installed and you're still getting "code" in a window then it sounds as though the MIME types in your browser are messed up and it's thinking you're getting text instead of binary. Try Opt+Click (or that other Mac key+Click) to get the context menu and choose "save link as" or

#5 by KarmaGirl - 3/3/2004 11:34:12 AM I was thinking the same thing......you know what is funny? I have never had a lens flare on one of my photos. The only ones that I ever see are from photoshop. How ironic is that? You've obviously not been trying hard enough to get lens flare on real photos then <img src="http://images.stardock.com/imag

Wow...the stuff that's there already is intimidatingly good! I think anyone as good as that should have their work held back so that the less tallented (ME!) can submit things under the delusion that they might win for a while Seriously - cracking start! It raised the bar for everyone to aim for! I look forward to what is to come.

I've noticed this symptom when using Photoshop (I know that's not what you're using) if I accidentally let it save the TGA as 24 bit instead of 32 bit. I suspect PSP has done the same thing. If there's an option for 32bit, then that's what you need...if there isn't, then switch to using PNG and make use of the auto convert to/fron PNG files that SkinStudio offers - though, I've not tried this route myself...

I get the impression that creating multiple accounts here for the hell of it is not only frowned upon, but seen as a breach of the rules somewhere...I have not, and don't intend to do this, but having just looked (for the first time in years) at the process in creating an account, I can't see anywhere that says "one person, one account"...have I just missed it in the T&C? ...or, when it gets really close to another digit, will there be a rush of people trying to register new accounts to

I had this problem with my Alien-Dial skin, but got it to work eventually without this glitch by tweaking the rolled up window size, and the various margins - but I can't remember what worked in the end. I know it's led to a fairly chunky roll-up window though, and it still has odd effects if you manually stretch the window smaller than the roll-up size.

c242 - possibly prior Mac users would have an excuse for thinking such heresy about how easy it might be to install/remove something? On the other hand, I've even known people just copy the desktop shortcut and wonder why their progam doesn't work on the new machine
