BoXXi - at this point, you ought to have almost nothing left connected, let alone seated correctly...a MB, Processor and RAM connected to the PSU would be the starting point from now...and you might even want to take out the RAM and Processor...not kidding, as a lot of MB's and BIOS will give you a nice series of beeps even without a CPU or RAM...

Ahhh...didn't spot that the CD etc was getting power...my oversight. However, as long as the HDD is getting power, then it should spin up if it's not connected to anything else by the ribbon cable. If it's going dead after a moment, then that doesn't sound good for the drive....By "stops after a little activity" though, do you mean that the light goes out? CPU fan not working means the PSU isn't passing any power out - which on an older model like that probably means the PSU is the problem...as IPlural has already suggested - make sure you disconnect EVERYTHING from the PSU in the case...I've had many times when a blown floppy or HDD, or even a faulty reset switch on the case can stop the PSU from starting up. Jumping jehoshaphat! (carefully chosen expression of exclamation based on the fact that Isaac Asimov picked this as non offensive made up phrase in the 50's for his novels) ...I'd best ensure that I pass everything I might post in future through everyone else who might ever read anything here in case they need to censor it! That's if the phase I think has caused possible offence is the one I think people are refering to. I'd have never concidered that as being even remotely offensive.

One thing that may solve this - when you use the remote desktop app built into XP, make sure you check the options. I think the default "experience" if for dial up users and hence disables Themes...which may be why your milage is different from mine? Hope this or VNC helps you anyhow

The easy answer is to ensure that all future images have a unique name - in the example you give, include the word "sysmetrix" in the file name...the upload etc supports long file names, so just make them fully descriptive.

I agree that stuck pixels being considered acceptable by manufacturers is disconcerting...I was surprised that the in situ testing of the new systems we're taking delivery of allows for up to 6 such faulty pixels! BTW, they don't tend to be just black or white as just a single colour can fail leading to pure R,G, B or other combinations of pixels too. However, isn't it the case that faults like this (if they have any) on LCDs are very noticable because they tend to be digital in nature

Hmmm, I'm surprised by the number of people in favour of CRTs. At work I have a dual monitor set up with both running at 1280 @85Hz (one trinitron and I'm not sure of the other) and they look fine. BUT, I've also used 17" LCD screens at a native resolution of 1600x1200 and that looked fantastic. Now if I could have a nice dual LCD setup at that size I'd swap the CRTs out in a flash. Not the view of hard core graphics users (neither am I...not at work) we've also been deploying 1000's

Hats off! Looking good. I particularly like the drop shadow effect from the title bar into the menu bar as in this one http://skinartistry.com/myhtml/comm5.html . The only comment I'd make is are you planning to leave the orange in the title bar "hanging" if this drop shadow version is the latest? It fit on the flatter looking shots, but IMHO it could do with a little rounded edge on the bottom edge....but feel free to ignore me as it's all way better than the effort I'm working on!

Orion, could you enlighten me on a an easy way to stop spam at the server level...I assume you mean ALL spam by that? It's just that at work we opperate just about every anti-spam mechanism I know of, and yet we still have quiet a lot that gets through...blackhole lists, filters etc, and the darn things still come up with ever more devious ways to get in! Hmmm, maybe it's the skin you're using as I used the remote desktop tool for a whole day on Friday connecting to my machine running WindoesBlinds without a single hitch. FYI I had XPJeans (I think it was) with WB running on the remote machine, and vanilla XP on the local end. I would say that's too similar to use without permision. It's a pity you followed the original so closely as you could have made something "in the style of" quite easily and avoided the issue.
