I also get a balloon in sys tray that says Im out of virtual memory quite often when I work offline in desktopX ... Never had this myself. Works fine online or offline. Maybe look at adjusting your virtual memory size in System Properties? eg. System Properties|Advanced Tab|Performance Settings|Advanced Tabs ->Virtual Memory should be at the bottom

All we need now is a dedicated web site to do this on.... wonder if stardock will give me space on a server? www.dxtutorials.com? I can think of an easier one than this. If they extended the tutorials section to include categories it would be a heck of a lot easier to access only the dx tutorials

ObjectDock Docklets do work with Rocketdock. Search Docklets under Object Dock Category. Make sure you place the Weather Docklet in the docklets folder eg. C:\Program Files\RocketDock\Docklets\Weather. Right click on any icon in the dock. Select Add Item Menu and The Weather Docklet should appear.

Both ways are fine to do it. You used the dx plugin which simplifies things considerably for most people and since it's there why not use it. They are great plug-ins that allow people to spend more time customizing and less time programming.

There's enough examples of the common widgets. While I agree with you and truthfully enough entry level tutorials exist between the manual and articles. Maybe the direction should be more focused on intermediate/advanced scripting tutorials? reverse engineer one of the ones out there You know that's simple enough yet people still ask how to accomplish things that are demonstrated in already existing scr

If I were you I'd stick to instructions/tutorials surrounding the most popular widgets. Obviously those are what people want to know how to do. Many people seem to want instruction in general scripting but, excellent resources exist elsewhere including an excellent SDK from Microsoft. I'll try to post some more links to the DesktopX wiki of my personal favorites. Varying off into this direction most likely will confuse and frustrate many. The possibilities within DesktopX usi

I can't believe any of us are this old. Creating like we do must keep us young! Now if it could only keep me sharp. Still can't find my keys!

I think you could lock the computer with vbscript just pack it to an exe then execute from DesktopX. And one more question, is it possible to trigger a script with a key on keyboard? If you have permissions then yes.

It sounds like you will have to do this through external wscripts. DesktopX doesn't allow that much control over the shell and for good reason.

The sorts of people who would want the Geek Squad installation are the sorts that probably use their computer for email, saving digital photos, writing the occassional letter and surfing the web. Don't forget acquiring hundreds of spyware, malware, trojans and viruses.

Nicely written, thanks. I've found that AveDesk 2.0 smoothed things out considerably and some little issues have disappeared. FYI in AveDesk 2.0 pidlshortcut's are now AveIcons.

Absurd as this may sound to you or I, unfortunately there is a need with it. How many people have asked you for help or to install programs, etc? In my case that was a lot in the past until I started to charge for it. Many people are just too damn lazy to actually read the instructions let alone follow them. Mind you I would come to your house (locally) and do this for far less.

There is a place I suppose for Gadgets at DesktopGadgets but, it seems to be stagnant and most developers have chosen to release them here. I think serious consideration should be given for an additional Gadget section.

Really the major threat to world peace is close-mindedness, ignorance and arrogance. This exists right across the globe spanning multiple cultures, races and religions. This cultivates everything else including fear and hatred. As a Christian I've endured much more hatred, insensitivity and judgement from many of our various sects. We have our share of extremists but, have done a better job of keeping them contained. I do agree with Brad that it is a matter of time before a

I don't believe that everyone hates Americans or America. Really if people asked more in depth questions they would find out that there's a lot more to it. Part of the issue with many people was the "you're with us or against us" comment that in itself is a form of economic terrorism. Many people here in Canada lost jobs at that time because of the ignorance of a few. What I do know is that over 800 Canadian trained soldiers signed up with US forces. I also know that SJ2 has been active

Thought about this some more. Over the last year or so there's been a considerable improvement in many of Stardock's ventures. Not that I don't enjoy reading your opinions I'm just wondering if the best use of your time isn't focused in behind the scenes leadership?

My name is Adam and I live near Waterloo, Ontario while my girlfriend lives near Boston. Educated in Business/Accounting haven't been working since a serious car accident in 2001. When I started working/playing with computers Basic with the language being taught in high school and DOS was the big deal. Let's see used to pop in here years ago but, didn't realize the full potential of customizing my computer until 2004/2005 and getting a new XP computer. Not much of a s
