For god sake everyone needs to stop calling fast ships "cheese". IF the game was correctly balanced, those fast ships wouldn't match up well against whatever ships the AI is using that don't have all those engines. The problem I'd have with simply limiting engines would be scout ships and freighters. They should be fast. I'd rather see a diminishing returns approach. A more complex way to go would be to scale speed according to how much of the overall space you use on the s

So is there any hope for said engine changes in vanilla GC2 ? I have personally been wishing for some change here for a long long time. I hope the end result isn't the AI moving even slower though...
Along with what mumble said, I like to use production production bonuses. (industrialist, along with another +20/+20 in racial, and then get the milatary tech that gives another +10 early on) If you use this along with anomoly cheese, (lots of anomolies, and build 3-4 more survey ships), you'll definately not have a problem colonizing.
Ok. Stardock rules. They can do no wrong. There is no point of discussion on this forum with such undieing loyalty. I know software. I personally can't stand folks testing my stuff when it isn't ready. I don't understand testing something that isn't close to what you're trying to deliver. For GC2 I understand working through hardware/system issues can take a while, and you need a good sampling of your users. But for DA I don't get it. Sorry. I personally think it has mor
IMO stardock is doing beta too early. They still have tons of things to do with DA from what I've read, and I just don't see the point of starting the beta here. I'd rather take part in a beta where the software was 95% done and all that was left was catch bugs and balance. From what I've read major portions of the AI haven't been done yet. What are they beta testing ? (I geuss they're just looking for crashes) For me 1.0 of GC2 was HUGELY disappointing. Seriously go bac
Excellent post. The worst is the way the minors clog up their starport, so that they can't even build more ships. (and as you mentioned, the pointless influence starbases...) Stardock seems more interested in creating hords of new problems than with cleaning up its current ones. Jasmcarl, go ahead...
The forums are already a mess with DA issues. Why would you want to play a half baked beta ? I'm going to be patient and wait for the "final" release. Which I'm sure will still have bugs/ leaks / and balance issues. For all the problems GC2 has had over this much time, I can't imagine being involved in beta testing of a significant expansion.
PS. I think I'm done with these forums for awhile. DA bug reports, crashs etc will probably continue to dominate the site and I'm tired of seeing it.
Gee maybe it's alpha software you're running ? Isn't there a email address to send this stuff to ? (like [email protected] ) Kryo seriously do you want this type of stuff on the forums ? I've gotten very good response from sending stuff to there. Why does everyone on the forums need to see it ?
I personally don't care to see all the bugs/whackiness/crashing/unbalance of the DA alpha testing that stardock is getting done by paying customers. Can all that crap go to a different forum ?
Personally won't be getting DA for a long while. I don't care to be an alpha tester. It annoys me to no end that they're doing a huge expansion, when the basic AI still has so many simple shortcomings. (which Brad finally admitted to the one of planetary management. Which he said will be completely rewritten for DA. What about GC2 ? Is it so hard to use fleets to protect resource bases ? Is it so hard to use speed ? Is it so hard to research a different
I hope so too. OR i should say pray. I don't think it'll change. It's a sad shame, and it'll take folks to stop buying every madden that comes out for it to change. (which won't happen) Face it, the union is pretty strong, and they want the dough...
beta...beta...beta... you sure we're not talking alpha here...
metaverse / non metaverse use different ship directories There's also an option in 1.4 where ships won't get saved from game to game. Now all they need : 1) an option to save a hull design to hard-drive. 2) an option to never display the crappy pre-made ships. (and kryo don't tell me to pick custom all the time...) 3) and lastly my wet dream of being able to in-game import ship designs with a gui that can browse directories. (or even an online database) <br/
wow. Tried 3x to goto the link with IE, and blamo everytime it crashs about 1/2 second after getting there. Now to try firefox or mozilla...
The key is the way the humans ships get thier totals divided up amongst all those ships. I should have posted that I thought so before, but wasn't sure. My personal experience has always been a few strong ships will wipe out hords of weaker ships mostly because of defense. I personally also think stardock should do more research in this area, because for the most part the defensive large hull ship strategy is almost always the best. (except when they're ahead of you in tech, or techs
Anyone else think the quick buy is too powerfull ? I mean how does a planet without factories suddenly produce a ship even if dumping loads of dough on it ? For me, the only good thing about quick buying is it provides flexibility in strategy. (especially buying factories/research on planets to kick start them.) Personally I'd love to see the quick buy idea reworked. (not sure how)
It's not a bug. If your treasury goes above a certain point then new income loses some income due to graft. Understood, but 20k in a small game is practically impossible, while in a gigantic is fairly common. (not so much anymore, but late in the game at least) Is there a reason things like this don't get balanced for galaxy size ?
Keep it up Jasamcarl. Hopefully your digs will eventually get you kicked off this site.
but the Thalan have most of the military resources and I can't even scratch the paint on their ships. Simple enough to deal with. Park stacks of 8 constructors near each one, once you have that send small but decent fleets out to each one. In a single turn destroy them all, and rebuild them for yourself. Game over. Thats
Is it version 1.4 RC something or other ? For me there seems to be a bug where important events, like a surrendering AI, don't get posted. (they happen, but quietly)
Will a save game survive the conversion from 1.4 RC to X ? For 1.4 RC the only bug i've seen is not being notified of surrendering AIs.
Stupid U.P voted to change all governments to Imperial for 2 years...Grrrr! That's one of the best events on a larger map !! Just leave the UP, and go back to federal or whatever. You lose trade, but gain the econ and influence bonuses. (and they can't get it either) On a gigantic map, trade is a joke so it's really a no
I think 1.4 was a solid change. I haven't really tried going over 20B on a planet yet, I get the feeling it still isn't worthwhile. The biggest thing is changing your habits. Remembering not to throw a stock exchange on a morale bonuses. (funny that the AI still does this) Basically it seems 1 farm/1 entertainment per planet works fairly well. As someone said above just make sure your morale tech is good. If I get some bonuses, I'm been going 2 farms, and whatever it takes
I'd love to see a much slower game startup, where you couldn't even build colony ships for awhile. Along with this, cut the starting funds, and make tech speed slower. What made me think of this is BSG. I mean it really shouldn't be so easy for a 1/2 billion people to jump on a ship and quickly colonize a planet. Along with this, transports would need to be much more tech wise expensive, and perhaps have a bigger size mod. (so you couldn't even build a transport
