SC: Thanks, I'm lurking mostly these day. Good to be here, though.

"but the good old history book teaches otherwise it is there that you learn that the muslim is either to convert or to destroy " Could you please explain why every Muslim nation on earth has a Jewish population, then? I spent several years with the 'good old history books' as a history major. I'm thinking you didn't. Even in the Middle Ages they didn't force everyone in the places they invaded to convert to Islam. Yet... in the 1500's I seem
Everything is black or white with you, isn't it? It isn't just blame the killer OR blame the police. If that were the case you'd not have locks on your doors, after all if something happens it won't be your fault. I have a feeling if it were one of your kids who sat in class oblivious to the fact a killer was on campus you'd feel a tad different. This is just a PC way of shaming people, a lot of them families and students, for asking very valid questions. I don't blame the victims h
"wrong only the ottoman empire did that " Are there elves and fairies in your reality? Hard to argue with someone who can just make up history. Thankfully, anyone who wants to can just crack a book. Idiot. Otherwise, no time now, will come back tonight or tomorrow and address anything else.
Political correctness is the act of stifling something in order to appease the sensibilities of other people.
I don't believe they thought that at all. It was an oversight not to inform the campus and have the buildings secured and people out looking for trouble. To cover it, they came up with some bull about domestic violence. Now, people are too PC to even question the bull.
"the only thing wrong with your statement is that all of islam is taught to hate non islam" Wow, add that to the list of crap you made up re: the electric car stuff. Islam is biased against other religions, but historically Islamic nations have always allowed for and lived alongside Christianity and Judaism. When we were persecuting Jews during the Inquisition, Jews lived among Muslims in Palestine peacefully. Iran's Jewish population is the s
"Interesting comment, but true, if you were a Roman. And Rome was the world." Rome is still there. And has been continually. It was sacked, sure, but the "fall" of the Roman empire is something we see because we look at history at the Macro level. From a perspective within it, you'd have never seen the "end of the world".
"I tell myself, don't judge the faith by the loonies...but then there is this thing about my husband being in the middle east. He recently stepped on an unexploded ordinance that was dug up by a peaceful Muslim (who didn't do anything (like give a warning) but laugh when my husband stepped on it). Not to mention all the regular Joe Muslims who sit in front of their homes and watch road side bombs being planted and then wait for our troops to drive over them...all wit
I've heard this in everyday life. I won't be voting for Obama or any Dem in this election, but this and the other stuff that circulates shows how sad and ignorant a lot of people are. After the Ellison non-issue in Congress it isn't surprising, though. People were moved to outrage at the thought of someone swearing on any religious book that wasn't theirs, fearing a breach in the fake Christian preeminence. America is "free" in the same way it has always been. "Free" means "free" wi
"Locking down the campus is unfeasible." If you knew about the issue at hand you'd know that isn't true. They had a system in place, as do most schools, and it has been used only a short time before when there was an escaped convict on campus there. They opted not to use it this time, some say because they felt it was overblown the time before. "Sure, in hind sight that is a no brainer. But I am not going to blame Ca
"No wonder the Christians and Muslims hate Jews so much." A similarly flawed discourse would be to ponder if Jewish people are traditionally paranoid. You can throw a rock and hit paranoid conspiracy sites on the Internet. Hell, Muslims would have a good chance at hitting a few hateful blogs aimed at them on JU. A more wise reflection might be that when someone takes the saddest example from a particular group, could they be trying to validate
The excuse I read was that when the first two murders were discovered that they thought it was an isolated murder suicide. Then, later, they admitted that the same gun that was used in the later killings was used in the first two. Think about that for a bit. How could it be a murder suicide if you don't have the murder weapon? Did the person who killed themselves hide the weapon afterward? While the final responsibility rests with the killer, the campus should have been locked down.
We're within a lifetime of making a lot of energy cheaply. One thing that has been theorized is using tidal forces to generate power. If you think about it the entire ocean rises and falls regularly due to the gravitational pull of the moon. That isn't technically "free" energy in the normal application of the term, but if conservationists can be appeased it is a HUGE amount of potential if it can be harnessed. The impact on species along the effected shorlines, etc., will be a probl
Lol, I don't think you are thinking about this. You are claiming that farmers won't need incentive to grow sugar beets, and then admitting that hundreds of millions of dollars have been paid... as incentive to grow sugar beets. Who cares where the money comes from? You should. You're paying for it. Anyway, there isn't so much incentive if you'd note the articles I linked. The government has hacking hard into those subsidies and the industry itself is beginning to rot on the vine.
Eh, no, as I said, without the incentive of huge government subsidies, farmers won't. The EU is having the same problem. As I said, the success story you cite is due to untold millions of dollars in subsidies. Big Agriculture in America has even changed their mind about the sugar subsidies. Sugar Beet Subsidies in United States totaled $242 million from 1995-2005. "M
I'm not gone . I'll be here from time to time. I just have to shift this blogging thing from a lifestyle to something more healthy, honestly. It's given me a nasty case of tunnel vision over the last couple of years. I realized I was thinking of current events in terms of the limited perspectives here, instead of broadly. I don't have many names to add. I wish we'd see stevenD and Kingbee more.
Here's an article about "Big Sugar" in America .
"Big Sugar" isn't anything to brag about. The world hates us for our sugar subsidies more than most other things, and that's why it's being abandoned by the government. It was a kickback boom industry that all but wiped out the industries in struggling countries around the world. Your sugar industry there is ONLY there because of untold millions paid to those producers by the government to keep the price low. Now, it is boomeranging back in the other direction, and our growth is dwin
We already pay billions to our farmers in subsidies so that they can produce crops at the same price as third world nations, and still keep the American "lifestyle". I've yet to see greenies consider the cost of those billions of dollars on our economy when we expand even further this socialistic junk in order to keep ethanol prices down. Our 'gas' farmers will have to compete with the farmers clearcutting rainforest in order to grow these crops. Of course they can't, so eventually, a
Ponder, if you will, how many fewer illegals we might have if we didn't pay government subsidies to American farmers, allowing them to crush the agricultural industries of third world countries. I love my country, and I want it to compete, but paying, say, tobacco farmers with tax dollars so they can sell their products cheaper than farmers in other nations isn't good conservatism, it isn't even free market economics. You have to wonder how many people would stay home and work the farm
It is a standard of living issue. Americans expect to work *any* job, buy a car, put themselves through school, maybe buy a house or at least rent a nice one, etc. The poor in our nation have as much living space and conveniences as the average person in many European countries. So, when we go look for a job picking fruit, we are shocked, SHOCKED that we can't make our car payments and pay for good health insurance on what it pays. It's hideously unfair to us, and we decide we don't want
Just temporarily while i am finishing some things up. It's good to see you back, though, Modman.
No one here has a beef with South Koreans. Most or all of the rabid gun control people have ceased to hang around JU. The fact is bloggers here aren't circling because there is no meat for them. A bosnian with a "muslim" name shoots up a mall, though... that's grist for the mill, victims be damned. The reaction here is more of a reflection of the hypocrisy of MANY people here at JU.
