Vista is not as bad as people make it out to be. There are significant improvements to the underlying system there. It is not the ultimate solution to everyone's problems, though, and will not make things better overnight. The message description is wrong. Known problem. You can't download and install it if you don't have Vista. It should perhaps allow you to archive it, though. Note that like all betas, the current version of LogonStudio Vista will expire, so you wouldn't be able to keep it forever anyway.
I'm afraid the only solution to this is Windows Vista in Aero composition mode. Microsoft have repeatedly closed bugs on this topic as "WONTFIX".

To the best of my knowledge, it should not matter what product version of Windows Vista you have. It is possible this will change if WindowBlinds adopts certain features that are only present in some editions of Vista, such as the blur effect.

I think they could argue that ATI is still credible competition, particularly as it just merged with AMD. Moreover, Intel competes only in the low-end integrated arena, while NVIDIA tends towards high-end discrete cards. A merger seems like a natural alliance.
