More specifically, it shouldn't actually have come as a zip file, but probably a .dxtheme - try renaming it to that (you may have to turn off Explorer's extension-hiding function in Explorer/Tools/Folder options.../View tab) and then double-clicking, having already installed DesktopX.

That is because the site does not correctly handle the situation where the user has white text set. For some, using the iefix.reg file included inside the Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\WindowBlinds\Blackcomb directory (double-click it) will help, but if it does not, your main method of recourse would be to complain to the site admins, because they should not be relying on the text colour being a certain colour. Well, it may be, but then the skin author needs to make it easy for the user to customize. People wouldn't be so annoyed at all the skins with buttons in odd places if there was an option to have them in the "right" place (for Windows).

It was indeed worth your time. I get the feeling that the community there is pretty responsive and eager to get new users and please existing ones if possible - I guess we'll have to see how it turns out. For now, the foo_winamp_spam plugin seems to work well enough for most things.

Eh, it's not that hard to poke at original scripts, and with that you can learn how to write your own eventually. Seriously, I reckon a good scripter could teach scriping to just about anyone and in a week they'd be doing their own stuff - maybe they wouldn't know all the commands, but they could know how to do loops and use variables properly and the like. It's not so much the largeness as much as the moving 100 of them 25 times a second-ness that causes the CPU problems. As for deleting from storage, you could probably go into Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\DesktopX\Objects and delete them from there.

timmy: Well, if you have DesktopX you can use it just by clicking the Download link at the bottom of the article. Make sure you are hiding desktop icons in DesktopX, or using IconX mode if you have that installed (you will get fewer flakes, though). Click the snowman for options.

Mine only does 150 at once when hiding icons (110 in IconX mode!), unless I let them settle, as settled flakes take up far less CPU time (don't have to move). It's an Athlon XP 1700+.
