Personally, I feel that single-player just doesn't get the attention it deserves. It doesn't have to be this solitary, lonely experience if you can optionally share a screenshot or clip from your latest game, with a little blurb underneath from you. I love seeing screenshots on Steam community hubs. Multiplayer may get the adrenaline going for a bit, but I don't mind telling you that sometimes it can get exhausting trailing after four other dudes in search of l

Yeah the prices for the engines are intentionally altered. You'll notice that Hyperwarp III has speed 5, not 4. You're getting a fair price for the speed you get from it. Sensors also get more efficient, but the earlier versions are not quite as ridiculous as they used to be. I realised that some of the defences don't really give you a lot of noticeable improvement so in some cases their cost scales down as you keep researching the same line. Th

Quoting tie rule #2 from GC2 Wiki - Ship combat: If in 50 combat rounds (300 for fleets) the battle is not resolved, the game determines which side is 'tougher' by the formula sqrt( ( 2 * Attack ) + Defense + ( Current HP / 2 ) ) . The side with the highest number automatically destroys all opposition. Doesn't actually say what happens if both sides are exactly evenly matched, though.

There's only a couple of AI personalities which work properly in TA with regard to expansion. The Arceans are crippled by their speed penalty. Super Warrior is a trait which requires fast ships - so that they can get into range and be the aggressor. In the early part of the game any AI will attempt to overcome its problems by spamming improvements which are supposed to improve the deficient area - mainly production and research. It also builds ships at every si

I agree with LTjim, it's not worth the £14.99 just to get the last expansion. It's only worth it for new players because at least they can play DA if they find TA to be too much of a pushover. If Stardock were still updating GC2 then it might be worth it, but that's not going to happen any time soon with all the development issues that have been cited. Anyone who buys the Ultimate Edition is getting an unfinished product.

The NLC is now superior to a Discovery Sphere - it provides 18tp (vs 16tp for Discovery Sphere) albeit at an increased maintenance. It does not need to upgrade. I'll consider replacing the power plants with ability bonuses on the tech and maybe some super projects. As for the other limited number per-planet improvements and the problem of them being destroyed... in several cases, I'm limiting the AI so that it doesn't spam an improvement until its economy col

My latest test game is turning out well because I'm being more aggressive with the colonisation and I'm playing on a galaxy with scattered stars instead of clusters. Still quite behind on research though. My ethical choices have led me to become the evil Arceans. Can't wait to see how that turns out.

Something worth considering if you're going to spam colonies with any race is to seed particular worlds with a full 250M colonists (or more if you can squeeze the modules in) then build a starport there and build cheap stripped-down colony ships to claim nearby worlds. You don't need a filled colony ship to claim every new colony though. Allowing your initial colonies to grow their populations will mean that more population is available each time a colony ship is complet

Something to bear in mind is that there are some races which get a 'Lite' constructor module which is cheaper (takes up the same space oddly enough) so you could shave 40bc from those constructors. As far as actual planetary defence goes, I find that if the AI is going to attack a particular planet, then I may as well rotate my good ships in there and let the enemy burn their ships trying to take the planet. Or alternatively, if there are lots of enemy fleets, have a few

So I've tested the Cathedral of Valor changes and, disappointingly, using a factor to a civ ability (Soldiering in this case) doesn't update the ability value. It may work, it may not work, either way I can't be sure so I'll make it an additive bonus instead. Of course this means it won't scale according to the soldiering ability that you have managed to gain so far. Since it is a minor fix I've re-upped it as version 5F.

Well, the test game was inevitably going to end up with defeat. Two empires hellbent on eradicating me with the vultures circling. Clearly I still have some work to do in making the Arceans fun to play against other empires. I don't mean giving them an 'I win' button though, just something to help with the early techs.

Latest test game is seriously annoying. Basically, I'm trailing behind the other empires technologically by what, a few months or so. I can't build a military of my own but somehow one of the other empires decides that I'm waging 'a war of aggression' and I need to be wiped out. What annoys me most is not that the annoying AI decides to declare war, it's that they put on that smug tone and make me out to be the bad guy in their declaration of war.

I can probably manage to play UFO: Enemy Unknown on my notebook. It might be able to handle some other old games but they're all on disc and it doesn't have an optical drive. You can get good performance but it comes at the expense of short battery life. Conversely, if you play low-end games or write documents, your battery can last well over six hours. This won't change until manufacturers manage to pack a miniature zero-point module in your battery comp

Well for the moment, it's unlikely that GalCiv 2 will be updated. The thing is, that makes developing a sequel more attractive since it isn't tied to the long obsolete VS2005. It's still quite a costly thing to get into but there's a profit to be made. If you check Brad's sneak peeks you can see a few hints at a sequel, but nothing as blatant as Lord Kona with a makeover. ;)

All of the traits are useful if you know how to leverage them. Super Adapter can get to worlds that other races can't yet claim. Sure, they suffer a loss of military and social production until they get the second stage of the colonisation techs, but if you have money to burn on buying improvements you can easily turn them into productive research colonies. Super Warrior gets the first strike when initiating combat. If they destroy the opposing fleet in the fir

Open up Prefs.ini in your saved game folder (it should be in \UserFolder\My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor or similar and you can open it with Notepad) and scroll down to where it says ModsDir. You can copy the file location for the mod you want to use and enter it beside ModsDir to manually set the right folder.

Still going with test games. The Arceans are one of the races that don't have the Planetary Improvements tech divided up. I think that I may want to do that because I'm constantly struggling technologically in the early game and because I've got rid of the early labs for everyone the only way to improve things is to move through the tech tree as fast as I can. Unfortunately, this is difficult to do when I'm trying to get some colonies before everyone else.<

If GalCiv 3 has a unified build queue like Fallen Enchantress/Legendary Heroes then Starbase upgrades could slot into the queue of the nearest planet. I don't know how well that would work though. Better than sending hordes of constructors though!

Steam's offline mode is still a little bit buggy. It also isn't particularly context sensitive - for example, if you have no friends on your friend list, it will still pop up a message about recommending a game to your friends when you visit its community hub. So yeah, while it basically works there is a bit of polish needed.
