Is the AI really that bad? I thought that the hard AI was quite good, but perhaps it can still not compete with those who have played this game for more than 1000 hours or so.

Thanks for all the expert advise so far, very useful. The basic answer seems that you only upgrade if you are going to use it. This in turn depends on a lot of factors, but it seems not very useful to have a lot of ships (thereby hurting your economy) if you don't use them.
I"m new, but I hope to learn from playing with and against experienced players.
LoL, any news you could share with us?
[I say this a relative noob, but so far TEC only player] Dunov or Akkan, probably. Interesting discussion guys, quite tense sometimes, but with good lessons (didn't know that jumping costs 100 AM). It seems that you guys should play a game together and see who wins. My feeling is that the Kol could use some help from the devs. Do you know if they are even following these detailed strategy discussions? They don't really mingle in the discussion.
Just a thing I've been wondering about lately. The first two upgrades are quite logical, but then the third upgrade is really expensive and given that you always have one type of resource which is scarce, quite expensive in terms of what you lose in income when you do the upgrades (e.g. metal can become an important bottleneck). I hope the vets can help us with this difficult economic issue, which seems to be a trade off between economic and military power. BTW very good concept: devs thanks
What's not to love about the Hoshikos? I haven't really played the other factions, do they also have repair cruisers?
Nice map, quite some planets in one system (realistic?)
Nice ship Scoutdog!
I thought the hack would also work on 32 bit systems with 4gb of RAM, right?
Thanks Carbon for the detailed suggestions to increase the frame rate. Wouldn't a GPU upgrade help a lot in your case? I'm considering that myself (I have a similar type of GPU, also about 2 years old).
Looks cool on the screenshot, although I would also prefer a Alpha Centauri 2. Perhaps they can do both?
I second this request! Karma for the request and the one who updates the sheet.
Thanks, I will have a look although I'm more interested in Distant Worlds by Code Force at the moment and still learning to play Sins well.
I can recommend listening to the podcast. It is indeed great and really gives you an idea how the game plays and which aspects the devs could possibly improve in a future update. Thanks for the links.
I hope the developers are paying attention and will incorporate these experiences in the next patch/update. @DirtySanchez: I've limited time to play the game and have only recently started with the original against the AI. I can now beat them at normal, and want to beat them at hard first before I try to play against you pro's. Are there also games in which only relatively new players play? In addition, I think it would be good to also learn to play as Advent and Vasari before I test
Hi, After reading some posts I got the impression that the AI is not capable of handling starbases. Is this true, does the AI not know how to attack them properly? Or is this already addressed in the Diplomacy mini-expansion?
@Darvin3 when can we expect the replay?
Doesn't Mussels' solution solve the minidump crahes problem?
"I really suggest you move to vista x64 however, if you can. (you can re-use your vista CD key, just need to get your hands on an x64 disk)" Why is this better, is this 64 bit?
I would like to poll which pc game has the best diplomacy element in its game. Because I haven't played SINS diplomacy yet (although I have bought it, but am still learning to play the original game), I submit the following list: 1. Civ 4 2. Alpha Centauri 3. Galciv 2 What's yours? Motivations are also welcome!
Itharus thanks for your insights. I hope my experience with the expansion will be different, but I doubt it is.
Thanks again to all of you. From now on, I will not be as quick with going for increases in my fleet supply as they seem pretty expensive. Also, I will be careful how to use carriers. I thought the lost strike craft would reappear immediately and at full strength. Why do the strikecraft not return at full strength? And compared to full strength, how strong are they in the beginning and how long does it take for them to reach full capacity? Question on upkeep. If you incr
I'm not sure if people won't like to have the option at least. While, it is not nice to be backstabed by your allies, it can provide a fresh challenge imo. It would also add some depth to diplomacy in the game. It could also work in your advantage if an alliance between two AI players breaks up suddenly.
Thanks again for all the excellent replies. Some follow-up questions: @Darvin3 - What is the payback time at normal speed, is the difference large? - Do normal carriers not have unlimited squad replacement capacity? @ DirtySanchezz - "Sometimes a good time
