Good to see reviews coming. I hope they will help the sales and subsequently inspire you to make more of SINS (another expansion, with a new race?). I don't like the start of the review. The author doesn't seem to like the diplomatic path.

Thanks a lot for the advice so far. Very interesting and useful. I hope some other people join this discussion and add their views. Why are refineries not so useful? Why is culture only useful in a clustered empire, I thought it was more useful if you had planets in a long line and allegiance effects matter more? I'm starting to learn this game and can win games on the normal mode. I just wonder if the experts arround here know what the best research strategy is for: 1) economy, e.g. focus on incremental increases in metal and chrystal production, or go for trade ports, refineries, culture structures? 2) military, e.g. go for more ship types or focus more on current ship types by increasing, their armor, shields, weapons, hp, etc? Thanks a lot in advance!

Funny indeed. Take care that the pirates don't consume too much additional memory so that game crashes occur more often.

Mussels, does it really work? I went to the techpowerup forum. It seems quite easy to implement. Can you also reverse it in Vista, because now it only explains how to implement the change in command prompt? ps I have windows vista 32b and 4gb of RAM, which shows up as 3.2 I guess.

A few questions: I) Does the AI also backstab allies or is it very predictable in the sense that it won't attack allies above a certain relationship level? II) Can you also bribe players with which you have bad relations in the sense that everyone has his price?

Sorry Brad, I think you misunderstood my question. I meant to ask whether an uprade of my grahics card would make any sense/difference, irrespective of the amount of ram I have in my pc (currently I have 4gb with windows xp) Thank you all for the elaborate answers.

So Brad and Thoumsin, if I understand you both correctly, normal desktops don't have any use at the moment of more than 2gb of free ram available? What about getting the latest graphic cards? Does a new model by Radeon or Nvdia really improves the performance of Sins compared to a model that is let's say 2 years old?
Managing your economy is really all about balancing expenditure. You have only so much money to work with, and lots of different places you might want to spend it. You need to figure out for yourself what your priorities are and how they relate to your long-term goal. They key to a well-balanced budget is to try to spend as efficiently as possible. Try to be thinking about how you're going to spend your money before you actually earn it, and keep a little budget in the back of your hea
im super disappointed... diplo contributes nothing but problems to MP. Ent was a great idea and grea addition to MP where as diplomacy in a set teams game does absolutely nothing
I disagree fully and I really like the fact that this expansion focuses on diplomacy. It makes the game so much richer. A small idea : what about also counting having a sizeable fleet (e.g. at least one capital and 10 frigates) present at your allies capit

I'm going to read about Machiavellian strategies again :) I really hope these suggestions could be included in a patch. Perhaps we should start a petition? Count = 1 (and counting)

BTW I'm currently doing the same with SINs. Although I've already bought the full package (incl diplomacy), I first want to learn to master the original game.

I have the gold version, but want to start with the original to get to learn the new game concepts before I introduce more elements with the expansions. Any suggestions for interesting mods? What about the galciv2 type of mod in one of the expansions?

I second the point on the need to not forget the players who got the snowball running. I still play the original dread lords game (I like the fact that it has less features), even though I also own Dark Avatar. I´ve some concerns regarding TA since I read that many people think that the game is not really ready yet/balanced, is that correct? Brad, if you have a look at the pro strategy advise on the galciv2wiki it says that it optimal to use fleet configurations to win battles t

"CIV IV is the best game ever made!" I"m playing at the moment. I must stay it is very good. However, I'm not sure if I like it more than galciv2 or Sins. I think there's even more micromanagement involved than in Galciv2. NOt only building improvements of cities, but there's a lot more to think about. I like the way the game is polishd and how diplomacy is taken care of. I only hope that the AI in Distant Words will be as good as in Civ4 and Galciv2.

@Campaigner I don't think you do justice to this game. It seems that the developers have implemented some innovative elements into this game. I like the fact that there's actually a whole economy going on, while you are managing as a head of state. Also the galaxy is much larger then in common rts/tbs games. The UI seems very easy to use and there is a very extensive galactopedia to help you. Why would it be impossible? You can automate the things you don't like. I wish I could d
