Ships are scaled by their hull size and their size in the designer. This is how it works: First, the Max Size is calculated as a percentage of the tile size. This is based on the hull size. For example, a tiny ship might fill 60% of the tile, where a huge would fill 90%. If the ship can fit inside of its Max size, it is left as-is. If it cannot fit inside its max size area, it will be scaled down until it does. For the "blank" hulls, there is one

I knew of this bug in Beta 1a. If you haven't already, update to beta 2, and try your saved game again. If you still get the problem, please send in your debug.err with the save. Thanks.
I'm sorry, there is only one texture map for lights. It's in /gfx/planets called LightNoise.png. The planets use this texture to generate their lights. You can modify the file to get different light patterns, but it will affect all planets.
PrntScrn should copy the current screen image to the clipboard. Then you can paste it into a paint program. If you are running in a window, make sure the game is the active window. I've been able to take screenshots in dark avatar with PrtnScrn. If that is not working, make sure your drivers are up-to-date. The PrntScrn feature is actually part of Windows, and should work in just about any program.
I found the problem and toned down the maxium planet size for class 0 planets (they use a diff algorithm for planet size than class 1 and up planets, which have their size based on quality ). I also toned down the star size so it won't overflow into other tiles. Thanks for reporting this. Saved games will not be affected by the fix.
If you haven't already, please check to make sure all of your video drivers are up-to-date. If, after reinstalling the game, you still experience the crash, please install the free utility program SmartException. You can find this in the free section of Stardock Central. Once installed, let SmartException run and run GalCiv2. Go through the steps to produce the crash. When it crashes, SmartException will generate a report that you can send to [email protected]&
This has now been fixed.
It will pick up where it left off.
Click on the asteroid field. Press M (this will cancel the mining orders) Then you will be able to upgrade the ship. You cannot upgrade the mining ship while it is building or upgrading a mining base.
The "8 minor races" choice was mistaken for "Random." This bug has been fixed. For now, just use the 7 choice if you want a lot of minor races, or play larger maps. The Random setting is based on map size. Thanks for reporting this.
Please provide your debug.err file. Just copy and paste its contents into a forum post. Thanks.
Do you have a debug.err file from that game? If you (or any one) gets a crash from an alt-tab, please post your debug.err file when that happens. Also, if you have a recent save, that would help too (send it and your debug.err to [email protected]) Alt-tab crashing can be caused by several different things, so the information provided in your debug.err files will help us to narrow it down. The debug.err file can be found in c:/program files/stardock/totalgami
There is a known bug where certain templates (like Fighter 1, Attacker 1, 2, 3 - Basically the ones that have numbers in them) will lose their jewelry and some parts when saved. Other templates (like Solar Fox) should be fine, also any user-created templates. The problem has been fixed, but unfortunately, the fix did not make it into beta 2.
Thanks for sending in your saved games. I have identified the problem. Damage from starbases was not being applied, and because of that, the ships were not killed. The problem HAS been fixed now, though. Also, you may have noticed that starbases cause more damage than the HP on the ship they are attacking. This caused damage amount reports to be off. That also has been fixed.
They do accumulate/overlap. If you select multiple starbases by holding CTRL and dragging a box around them, you will see the areas that they affect light up, and any areas where they overlap will be brighter.
Ah, they weren't colored correctly. I do know of a bug where the icons for mining bases would sometimes not show the correct color. That problem has been fixed. If it happens again though, please send a screenshot and/or saved game so we can verify that you are experiencing the same problem. Thanks.
Do the Korath have a mining base on those asteroid fields? Please send your save to [email protected] and/or post a screenshot here. Thanks.
Zydor, Thank you for the detailed instructions. I was able to use them to verify that the fix for the projectile defenses bug DID fix your problem. After the fix, those pesky Arceans were no match for your super fleet If you hold onto your save, you should be able to continue it and take advantage of the fix once we get the next update out. Thanks.
Try creating a temporary folder in My Documents/My Games/GC2DarkAvatar called /temp Move all of your .customrace files from My Documents/My Games/GC2DarkAvatar to My Documents/My Games/GC2DarkAvatar/temp Then start up a new game, and see if you are able to change the super ability. If you can, please zip up your .customrace files and send them to [email protected] so we can determine what happened. Thank you.
Also, if you have a saved game that reproduces the crash, please send that as well. Thank you.
There is a bug that caused mass driver defenses not to work properly in the beta. It has been fixed for the next beta update. The other defense types did not have any problem. Thank you for reporting it.
If you need help designing ships, there is a tutorial about it in the Tutorials screen. Just click the "Tutorials" button on the main menu. If you installed from Stardock Central, instead of a CD-ROM, you will need to download the "Tutorials" module.
Play as the Korath, or as a race that uses the Korath Ship Style (See Appearance tab when setting up your race) When you go to the ship designer, find the template you want, and click "Use" If you are noticing parts being stripped off of the template when you use it, check the Options screen for an option called "Remove functional components when upgrading" Please uncheck that and see if that helps.
5. Asteroid field mines should be destroyable with ships? You can destroy asteroid field mines with ships. Just make sure the ship has weapons and then move it onto the mine's tile. Keep in mind, this will be an act of war though
Thank you for taking the time to write a detailed report. It really does help when we can get a detailed description of what was going on in the game, what steps were taken to produce the bug, etc. That way we have a good idea where to start when we try to reproduce and diagnose the problem. There was a bug in the beta build that caused armor not to work properly (while other defense types worked fine). That has been fixed for the next update. It sounds like this m
