Please post your debug.err file too as well. This file can be found in c:/program files/stardock/totalgaming/galciv2. Open it in Notepad and copy/paste the contents into a post here on the forums. This will help us see what your settings are and why there might be a problem. A couple things to try: 1. If you switch to US English settings, are you able to see weapon fire? 2. Please make sure the "Instant Battles" option is not selected for your "Battle Length" option i

You may also get better video performance if you watch the video in full screen. (Click the check box for "Full screen" on the Tutorials screen)
Please make sure your video drivers are up to date. Old drivers is a common cause of an immediate startup crash. You may also want to delete the /My Documents/My Games/Galciv2/prefs.ini file. Doing so will set the game back to its default settings. If you still experience an immediate crash, try re-installing the game to make sure you are not missing any vital files. If none of these helps, please post your debug.err file. Thank you.
If you have modified your custom race in a previous game, and not selected any starting techs, then it is probably still using those settings. Next time you start a game, click on the Clear button in the "Customize Your Race" screen. That will reset the race back to defaults, which includes some starting techs.
Commodore1, Your ships from 1.1 will work with 1.2. You may also want to try updating your video drivers as well. Thanks.
Please try updating your video drivers. Also, try turning down your Anti-Aliasing setting in the Video tab of the Options screen. You may also get better performance if you watch the videos in full screen. (There is a checkbox on the tutorials screen for Full Screen mode)
Were you at war with the drath at the time you traded? Do you have any saved files from before the trade? If so, please email them to [email protected]. Thanks.
Did this happen after loading a saved game? We are aware of this problem when loading saved games and it has been fixed for version 1.3. If you are getting this bug without loading saved games, please let us know. Thank you.
Ok. I believe this problem has now been fixed. The fix will be included in the next update.
Please send the screenshots to [email protected] or post them here (you'll need to upload them somewhere else then link to them) I found a case where after choosing neutral alignment, the planet quality number did not match the number of tiles. I'd like to see if this was also happening for you. Thank you.
It sounds like planet quality bonuses were being applied, possibly neutral alignment terrain improvement bonuses as well. Do you have a saved game or debug.err file from this game? If so, please post your debug.err and/or email your saved file to [email protected]. In the meantime, I'm going to try reproducing this here.
Driver Name: ati2dvag.dll Driver Version: 6.14.0010.6542 Driver Date: 5/25/2005 04:07:52 Please try updating your drivers and see if that helps.
Master U, It doesn't look like the 3d scene is not clearing, and you're getting the planet, star, and moon recreated on top of themselves. Do you know how to reproduce this? Also, could you please post your debug.err file? (Found in C:/program files/stardock/totalgaming/galciv2) Thank you. - CodeCritter
sewerstarfish: Please try reinstalling. It looks like your campaignwnd.dxpack file may not have installed properly. Jadant, Does this occur when colonizing the planet? After defecting the planet? After conquering the planet? I tried colonizing a class 10 with a 20% PQ Bonus and got a class 12 planet with 12 tiles. Do you have a saved game before you get the planet that we can use for testing? If so, please email it to [email protected]. Please incl
Thurlin, I tried setting the destination for a colony ship and hitting turn a few times. Then I upgraded the ship to a constructor. The ship upgraded for a couple turns, then finished and kept moving to the destination. The destination cursor disappeared when it got there. Can you please post your debug.err file? Thank you.
sam0t, Thank you for submitting your game and providing instructions to reproduce it. It looks like the problem only affected the fleets. I found the source of the problem and it has been fixed for the next update.
You may need to tell your antivirus program to ignore GC2Launcher.exe. Some virus scans have been known to block this program. If that is the case, you should still be able to launch galciv2.exe from your galciv2 folder. You can make a shortcut to this file if you want. If, when you run galciv2.exe, you get a black screen and the program crashes back to the desktop, please look in your c:/program files/stardock/totalgaming/galciv2 folder. There should be a file called deb
sam0t and BradenK, When you get a chance, please post a debug.err for your games that have the upgrade problem? This file can be found in c:/program files/stardock/totalgaming/galciv2. Thank you.
Something fishy going on with latest beta when upgrading ships. The game screen informs that it takes "a week" to complete upgrade even if the upgrade is finished alrdy. The reacently upgraded fleet still has the "upgrade : a week" message on it and also the upgrading icon over it. Even so I can move the ships after which the correct upgraded names appear on
In the version 1.2 update you can click on the number, and then type an amount.
Please try uninstalling and reinstalling the game (1.2 or 1.3beta) This will make sure you have the correct version of sphere.x file, located in /gfx/models/ That was the file that caused the original "giant star" problem. If you still continue to experience this problem, another thing you could try is checking the "Disable Hardware Transform and Lighting" option in the Video Performance options.
I have reproduced the scrolling problem when I change my regional settings to non-English. We're looking into the problem...
About #1, Does the tech tree always scroll slowly, or is it when you left click on a tech or right click on a tech, or does it only scroll slowly when dragging? If you change your regional settings to English, does it still scroll slowly? Thank you for reporting these.
1. Ship graphics. At some point colony ships and constructors start using the wrong ship graphic on the main map -- usually the freighter graphic, but not always. Note that this does not occur immediately, the game does use the correct graphic at first. I have not been able to determine what triggers it, but it seems to get worse if I ever Alt-Tab to a different app a
synthapher, If you wouldn't mind answering a couple questions for me: - Does the white square rotate as you rotate the camera? - If you change your regional settings to English, do you still experience the problem? You also could try uninstalling the game completely and then reinstalling to make sure nothing from 1.3 is still present. Please let us know if any of these helps. Thank you.
