Brad, thank you for the explanations in "Undocumented Economics and Production". Can you add to it a few comments on Maintenance?

Thank you for having build this game. I just won my first rc52 game and I sweated for many, many hours. The AI's have been tuned real fine. The fog of war is quite dense, so you get lots of surprise ships. I guest I had forgotten how hard it was to win a game in os2. You really have to watch that maintenance.... Thanks again and congratulations :CONGRAT:
I like your ideas, and to help along the same line. The current goals are based on a competition between AI's. Are the AI's capable of cooperation? If so, multiple other goals would be gained by requiring the IA's to cooperate to acheive the goal. For exemple a goal could be, for all the AI's, get to 100% morale, for all planets to have no social projects left to build.
Could someone define "cheese tactics" please. :notsure:
If you recycled all the junk that we trow out, you probably would not need to mine and transform the mineral (aluminum) You could send your garbadge to a starbase for processing, in out out of sector. The capacity issue would be one of how fast you can harvest junk. Would you run out of junk as population grows? :notsure:
1. Intermittent problems with selected ships. 1.1 Once a group of ships, selected via Shift-left mouse, has been sent to its destination via a right click, intermittently, the selection remains active after a different ship is selected for a move. This results in having the previous selection going to the second destination. 1.2 A group of ships is selected via Shift-left mouse, and are sent to a destination via a right click. The first ships moves towards the destination for it
Thanks... :)
Here are 2 observations on this version. 1. For a large planet that has no soclal project to work on. Thru research, you get several social projects to work on. Selecting one of the projects for that large planet that has nothing left to do. The project indicates that it will be completed next month. You cannot change that social project for another project. 2. When you select multiple ships (Shift-Mouse), if your rectangle lines overlap in the
The game is super, it is progressing by leaps and pound, cudos to the team. I just experienced a ctd when investigating a system that had been taken over by the Draginol. I cliked on one of the dreadnought orbiting and it kicked me out. I'm sending the saved file Other comments: 1. Galactic news setting is not saved, when I reload a game, it is ON when I had savec it as OFF. 2. Internitently the Next appears where it should be the Done button, may be rel
Excellent suggestions Mindlar, I support them all In addition, I would suggest that a morale indicator be placed next to the treasury amount on the main screen. :)
thanks, I'll be more persistant next time.... :)
Just had an instance where wjen adding sector sweep , and then auto-attack, to a ship, I was presented with the Out of Range panel. Cliking on Done, the panel would return and I could not get out of that focus. I had to kill the game. w2k, p4 2.0, 512m, version 09.017
I support the request for increased speed tech, and the B5 stargates. This would reduce the number of turns between plan conception and resulting actions. This would certainly improve player gratification and probably reduce the complexity of the plan and the performance requirement.
feel good time..... now you will be able to sleep.... ;)
By the way, the version is 09.017
I have a game that CTD on turn, upon cliking on the turn button, it crashes in 10 seconds. The game is in Nov 2210, gigantic, all aliens are bright and neutral. I'm running w2k on a p4 2.0 with 512m. I noticed that for the previous 20 moves (Jan 2009) the time needed between turns would get progressively longer, 5-10 minutes. Interactions on starbase build was slow, waiting several seconds (30-40) for cursor response. I have it saved at several stages,
Concerning the end game, I would suggest that the AI of the other cultures learn from the dominant one. The corrallary of influence is that it spreads technologies rapidly, therefore the culture with the dominant influence would also have more thechnology leakage to the other culture. The spying could also be more effective in transfering thechnologies. Or would this just prolong the mid-game? :notsure:
thanks :)
Using version 09.017, on a p4 2.0, with 512m 1. Experienced 2 CTD while submiting results to metaverse. 2. Upon winning, the summary screen has the overall results as a copy of the military results. 3. I usually play with less the 10 ships, very little cpu impact. This last game I moved 100 ships around in groups of 10-20. The performance went down fast. 1-2 minutes between turns, when without, less then 30 seconds per turn. ;)
I would like to add a suggestion for managing starbased. Would it be possible to assign a goveurnor to a starbase to follow a build sequence. Thanks ;)
Sorry to report the following.... Version 0.8.019 installed the following crashes my p4 2g/512m ram everytime 1. new game, accepts defaults, done 2. opening on yearly report, done 3. research panel, select Propulsion theory, done 4. select domestic policy/economy, set tax rate to 50%, adjust military to 50%, 5. select domestic policy/governour, assign both to ford as default, 6. select domestic policy/economy, done 7. select system, select earth
Thanks for the icon description. and I support you minimap suggestion.... ;)
Steevo, Excellent comments, we should all be following your example. Specifically I would enhance your suggestion #11, by having a dashbord square (1cm) appear automaticly next to the system on a mouseover. In the dashboard as much info as possible could be cramed in, such as ships, class, quantity of planets > 14, morale for each, party, gov, etc....
Frogboy, I was unable to capture the screen of Dark Reign to send as an exemple of a compact intreface, which I was refering to. To describe the screen, divide it into 3 vertically, take the rignt third to manage the game, provide information and all options. Your cursor only has to move in that area to select what to do. Of that right 1/3 of the screen, split again in 3 and use 1/3 (bottom or top, my preference is bottom) to display the minimap of the galaxy, zo
Arturus, I have not found the screens that behave that way. Taking your word for it, then there is a lack of consistency in implementing mouse behavior. Here is another exemple. On the initial panel, the player setup screen. there are 3 horizontal scrolls, Advantage factor, Galaxie size and Habitable planets, 2 scroll min to max by going left to right but Advantage factor goes right to left for min to max. why the inconsistency, why not have a drop down menu to select.<
