Joined in March 05 ,not sure why :p ,how on earth is one supposed to remember how one came here,my guess would be a download.com email & to do with cursor xp ,i just used the free version then used free objectdock, tried rocketdock & STablauncher.Around late 06 i decided to buy CXP & OD,then not long after jumped in boots n all & bought ODNT amongst other goodies.

Best place to start would be before the shit hit the fan :p & what you've done since that's made the taskbar thing happen ,as Bichur recomeneded disable NVIEW (nvidia's graphical adjustment software called "nividea nview desktop manager" , my next step if that's already disabled would be a spyware scan & virus other than that there's not much else to go on. ps:actually there is something else: two words- acronis ghost

On my hp desktops F1 goes directly too BIOS. If it's any consellation my fans never shut off either they just keep a constant slow flow over the cpu,if however the alloy heat sink gets gunked with fluff then the fan will increase & decrease as needed until i clean the crap from it,other than that it never increases or turns off while comp is running.i can't think what the point would be of having your cpu fan off as it would'nt take long for the cpu to heat up but then again i've never

Not objectdock, they're referring to objectdesktop, use the link in post #2 by HG,once you've looked that over click the HOME button near top left, the column on the right houses all the diff stuff you can dowload & mix n match with the ObjectDesktop suite, umm there's two diff suites the basic & ultimate,go with ultimate is my opinion.

There's a number of options at your disposal po' ,the question is which road to travel 1)-Use symantec's downloadable removal tool before attempting anything first as it can in some cases break systems..lol..,remove the rest of the goodies that hp were kind enough to let you have :p,once system is cleaned up,untick hybernation box,not sure if necessary but set page file to none, reboot to safe mode & defrag & disk clean up,registry clean with ccleaner, reset pagefile to whatever size tho

Po Don't forget to make a set of recovery disks for your hp & use good quality media,if you don't make a recovery set you'll have to buy them from hp if your hdd shits itself, it's the only way to reinstall windows onto a new hdd,you need to use good media as those twits at hp only allow you to make 1 set.I don't know why as they can't be used on any other machine other than that model of hp Push F8 to get to safe mode assuming all hp's are the same.

hibrfil.sys is your hibernation file,in xp it comes under power options, unticking the hibernation box & i assume a restart will delete it,(not sure if you need to restart but i do as i usually defrag in safe mode),you also need to untick the hiber as it does'nt defrag
Reply #3 MySecretGreat to hear that it didn't find anything If you are using XP then I suggest setting a restore point now you know your system is clean.
I beg to differ,"system no restore" happens all to often which is why i gave up & turned it off & now use this instead,it will revert your registry regardless any changes or not,if you've never had the "choose another restore point nonsense" then you've been extremely lucky,no doubt you would'nt be

The good the bad the ugly. the article writer said it best ,SP3 is anticilmatic & i totally agree with that comment,& i for the life of me can't see the point of even installing it since it's nothing more than a compilation of already available updates, apart from a couple of admin features & the extra menu bit that gives a bit more detail,& what's with no IE8 for xp. So was i back in 06 when i first attempted to install ubuntu but gave up as i could'nt figure out how to use the partitioner or how to mark the partition for install, then i ended up buying partition magic 8,after using it numerous times to create NTFS partitions over the next couple of years & doing a bit of drive cloning i started to understand how partitions worked,i also found better tutorials on dual booting xp with ubuntu & kubuntu on extended partitions, looking back i wonder what was so ha

Disturbed in my relpy No4 use the two bottom links to install kubuntu into a virtual console, download microsoft virtual pc 2007,it's free,by using the afore mentioned links you can run kubuntu & xp at the sme time, the beauty of a virtual pc (vpc) is that if anything goes wrong it won't destroy any thing in xp or on any of your hdd's. To install linux to a second partition or after XP PROF, kubuntu will give you three options: 1-use full disk = it will destroy all data & partiti

Excellant another satisfied customer ;p ,it all makes sense now..lol..,out of curiosity why won't kubuntu install to an extended partition (extended partition is created after C to house kubuntu when at the partition layout screen of the kubuntu live disk) are you aware there are numerous versions of kubuntu including 32bit,64bit,alternate etc by rights you should be using 32 or 64 bit,if you find that your getting a black screen the other opton is to download the alternate 32 or 64 bit iso & i

Cloning whether SATA or IDE is fairly straight forward so long as jumper settings of the hdd's is correct ,one hdd set as master the 2nd hdd set as slave, that's assuming your cloning, as you mention having to reinstall xp which is not the same as you need the original xp disk to do that,it's important to get the terminology correct as it makes the topic confusing & that includes naming of disks,so i'm to assume you have the following 1)-Master HDD = contains the original xp prof install

Christ ! that's bloody slow even the comp i'm on when it had the 5400rpm hd ,256mb of ram & needed a defrag as well as the hdd being full could still boot xp in under 2 min's. Assuming comodo is'nt the culprit & since i don't have vista i can only go by what i did with xp to get things moving along, which basicly means trial & error, for starters tech republic has articles & pdf's on speeding up boot time of vista, both links provided below are to the same article, the next step is do you r

Try using safemode if that fails the other two options is contact stardock support or if your familiar with the registry just delete the program files & the registry entries or a more safer method would be delete the prog files & use ccleaner to deal to the registry entries.I don't recall any problems uninstalling alienguise or the other alien themes that are on that site,my guess is you have a wonky computer. <b

An overview of SP3 is in the link, it's a bit of a let down,it's nothing more than a compilation of previous released security & bug fixes, there's a couple of extra's but nothing to write home about, there's some sort of change to activation but other than that it does'nt appear to be anything like SP2 was. Can be installed over the top of sp1 & 2 Edit: I was so looking forward to a few new bells & whistles too (:( good thing i got Objectdektop n stuff to keep me company
