It doesn't NEED to research them, because it has a bonus there. In maso games it sees at least 7 parsecs far with everything. With Eyes of the Universe I can see 15 in all directions. Yes, at the top three levels the AI gets lots of bonuses but at tough and below it does not. Even if the AI does not need the increased senor range, it would benefit from building additional survey ships. AI needs significantly more accurate t

Well, I think I will drop it to just below Challenging, I can do challenging if I don't have to worry a lot about my economy, which would be a mixed research-industry game. I will drop it down to Normal I think, 4 opponents on Normal shouldn't be overly hard. Stupid Drengin wont be able to team up so well against me this time w/ the Torren and Kroza. They are really freaking militaristic though, so they lag way behind sometimes in researches (other then military tech).

get the bonuses you've always wanted...its in the modding folder...all you need is a hex editor and a save file and away you go Warning! Modifying game files for Metaverse games will trip the cheater flag! There is definitely a negative correlation between map size and anomaly density. The number of anomalies seems about constant, regardless of map size. That makes sense because you only want a certain number of morale boos

Enhancing the AI is a great idea - where are those files which govern research weighting? I've never done any modding myself so I'm not even sure if the weight is stored in an XML file or something that is hard coded. Each AI has its own personality and research goals. If it is not possible to get the AI to research sensors then you might try modding to give all players Sensors Level 1 at game start. Unfortunately, getting the AI to build additional survey sh

Even as a veteran player (I've been playing since Dec. 2005), I find it hard to see my base (before bonuses), effective (after all bonuses), and cost (some bonuses are not fully paid for) of my military, social, and research on the economic screen. Also my research bonuses are not reflected on the research screen. I also would like "passive" espionage returned to the game. The problem with removing the survey ship from the start of the game is currently, for performance reasons

Some players have gone to great effort to learn how to mod non-Metaverse games to get extra bonus tiles. Easy victories are hollow victories! As players gain experience with the game, hopefully they will focus on how to make the AI better rather than how to cheat the game. I've started this thread to discuss modding changes that will make the AI play better. For example, for performance reasons the AI does not value sensors but this places it at a disadvantage. Sensor Level 1 is

I've been playing computer games and authoring computer programs even since I got my first computer a Franklin Ace 100 back in 1982! Back then my friends and I hoped to someday develop computer games for a living but the reality is that is a small part of the computer industry so most of us are working in other niches. Today at age 41, I'm married with two young daughters so finding time to play GalCiv II is hard. On a week night I might get home

In DL I always disabled all victory conditions except for military conquest, as I was playing for high scores, Tips for Maximizing Your Game Score . With DA I'm playing for fun so I've enabled all victory conditions; I don't know if it possible win a military conquest without first triggering an influence victory. In DL I was easily able to beat the AI on suicide with the mixed (factories and labs) strategy with tech tradin

Have these bugs been resolved in the final DA 1.6? When your total number of ships > ~700, the following two problems occur: (1) Most of your new ship pop-ups don't appear on the right side of the screen, until you click the Menu button. (2) The ship list can only handle ~700 ships so when you exceed this point you won't be able to see all your ships. FIX: Fixed bug where non-optimal defenses were never decreased as the defenses absorbed damage dur

Wydnstar: This is the line I'm just not sure about. I agree I want the player to have more choice. I guess what we disagree on is whether taking away focus increases a players choice, or reduces it. I see an all labs approach as an "additional choice" the player can try if you have focus. You see the many ways to approach the game if you don't use focus - and think that is more choice. However, you can already play all of the ways you imagine without using focus... jus

Do you have a dual core AMD? If so then you need a driver update to fix a bug. Dual Core Machines may need a driver update

The only difference between galciv 1.0 (hopelessly outdated btw) and the newst 1.6 betas is that damage rolls are per weapon and not per ship. In GalCiv2 prior to 1.2, the attacker would fire before the defender could return fire, like the Super Warrior ability in DA. This gave human players a huge advantage over the AIs as they would always attack thanks to faster ships and better sensors (i.e., Eyes of the Universe gives 15 sensor range to all your ships).

Never build the core ships, always design your own ships using your latest tech, customized to your need. For example, you might build an expensive constructor with lots of engines and life support to claim a galactic resource before the AIs but then build it up with cheap constructors (just a constructor module) especially if you have the speed +2 race ability.

With my NVidia GeForce FX5200 and all video options enabled, I was getting ~8 fps when zoomed in and ~12 fps zoomed out when including HARDWAREVP on DA 1.6 beta 4. With the last beta this dropped down to 1-2 fps when zoomed in! I'm happy to report with the final 1.6 DA, it is using MIXEDVP rather than SOFTWAREVP and I'm seeing ~15 fps when fully zoomed out and ~30 fps when fully zoomed in!

Kryo: "Mascrinthus, Terl, did you guys try turning off show prerelease and refreshing XML as noted above? I just ran the update on my laptop and it worked without any problem." dthought: "I had that problem too, kryo, but only if I let it auto update from the "A new version of GC2 is out! Do you want to upgrade?" dialog that popped up in SDC. If I stopped that and chose to upgrade each piece manually from the list of games, it worked just fine."

Is the current voting system exploitable? Very. Should it be changed? I think so. But what happens if you can REALLY only change taxes 1% per turn? One, more people will just use imperial governments and ignore elections. Why not base the election results on the average morale since the last election, then players couldn't just drop taxes before the election?

"After that it adds to the new amount all bonuses the planet and race has in that field." Don't anyone let this one slip by you. I often use this rule. If I KNOW I'll be going all factories before I start a game, I'll go for a big racial research buff to counteract my lack of labs, or vice versa. You'd be surprised what a difference +60% racial research makes when you only build factories, for instance. Does this mean I still should grab research gal

"PPS - The most efficient economies for high difficulty games are either factories and markets/banks, or labs and markets/banks, not factories and labs." Please explain what you mean? There are two strategies to maximizing the output from factories or labs. If you build both factories or labs, you can't fully fund both, so instead only build factories or labs. (1) build only labs, set global and research spending to 100%, and on planets set the f
