For one second I was tempted to play a gig abundant all cakewalk game! On reconsideration, I think not though! That would be about as fun(NOT!) as milking an already won game. For those that still care, Purge, how do you score >900K in a suicide, abundant everything, gigantic map, DA game?

I think the DL sandbox game is much more fun than the DL campaign (and I've read many posts that agree). As a result I skipped the campaign in DA. I played that mission back in spring 2006 under DL 1.0X on level tough. I remember reading a post that increasing the difficult level make it easier as it makes your AI allies more useful. Try playing the factories only strategy (build only factories instead of factories and labs, then set research spending to 0 and focus on each planet to re
When I needed to update DA 1.6 beta to the final 1.6, I had trouble when selecting "Update Now". Only when I clicked "Update Later" and then manually selected the updates, did the downloads finally proceed! If that does not work try refreshing the XML file in SDC. Good luck!
You can't check within the game whether the intelligence level is the same as you set it until you meet the opponents. If you start the game with starting relations "Friendly" or "Close" you will be able to check that AI at game start.
themocaw: Well, the easy way would be for planetary damage to take place before the troops invade, but that could lead to some interesting abuses, like sending in wave after wave of transports with one soldier only and using Tidal Disruption to wipe out the enemy's infrastructure...may as well just include orbital bombardment as an option then. ColdSteelRain: Maybe it should factor in the percentage of the troop module capacity used. For example, you'd only be
I find the AI values my research treaty much more than my economic treaty. I usually trade my research treaty with the most powerful AI for its research treaty or in exchange for it going to war with a powerful AI near me that is hostile. When playing on suicide it is critical that you keep the AIs fighting each other. If an AI declares war on the Altarians then it is also declaring war on all good AIs. Have a constructor waiting near a starbase mining a galactic resource, owned by an AI at war.
At what level difficulty does the AI try to keep its mining bases within its influence more persistently? I've only played DA on suicide. I've only seen the AI mining asteroids within its zone of influence. Mining stations have only rebelled after I start conquering planets causing the influence zones to change. No new algorithms are introduced above level tough, only bonuses.
Rotations could use a fine tuning option, allowing less than 45° rotations. I know this will probably not be possible, but I would love to have an option like that. As already stated this can be set on the game options menu. Another option on this menu that affects ship building is the flag indicating whether or not to strip functional components while upgrading a design. Both options should be moved to the ship building UI. Some other improvements I
My current game will be 700K+ without a starbase array. I bet in late game (long after you could have won the game) you are pumping out huge hulls with ultimate miniaturization, loaded with nothing but black hole eruptors solely to boost your military score. I don't find milking an already won game solely for a higher score to be fun. In my 2nd DA 1.6 suicide game(I resigned in the first which never happened in DL!) which I'll post as an AAR, I got the messag
In my last MV game my aim was to maximize my empire's potential. So I continued to build NLCs on research bonus tiles after I completed the tech tree instead of replacing my labs with factories and stock markets. I also continued to build dreadnoughts with decent defenses and good speed, instead of just filling them with weapons for the maximum military score.
I agree it is crazy that factories can produce research output and labs can produce manufacturing output. It is also crazy that you can't fully fund both your factories and labs at the same time if your economy can support the expense. This unrealistic dependency between factories and labs is the problem. Removing this dependency would make the game easier for all players, human and AI. Researching with Factories and Building with
Rather than buying all those colony ships which quickly depleted your starting capital, I would have bought a factory on the precursor mine and built them instead. Buying ships costs 10 times as much as building; I also would have built those markets on AC rather than buying them further saving my starting capital! With a 100% population growth bonus due to 100% morale plus your 30% race bonus, Lacaille would quickly have spare population to support colonization or you could launch them with 1 p
I have 4gb of ram, dual dualcore opterons, 8800gts g40mb gfx card - still battling this problem. Have you seen this thread? Dual Core Machines may need a driver update Real-time virus scanners can sometimes slow things way down. Have you excluded all the GalCiv folders (both in My Docs and Program Files) from being scanned in your real-time virus scanner? That
By design starbases benefit from your defense and HP bonus but not your attack bonus because it was thought that would make them too powerful. Since the consensus seems to be that starbases are too easily destroyed, in future will they benefit from your attack bonus? Do the combat changes made in DA to allow a high attack ship to take out multiple ships per turn (e.g., dreadnought vs. fighters) apply to starbases? If you don't put weapons on the starb
Nice read but some images would help. A picture is worth a thousand words; perhaps, you could throw up a map of known space. Also, dates of major events and major research milestones would be useful.
For my first DA game (previously DL 1.2) I tried a 1.6 suicide, medium map game and for the first time fell far behind thanks to the much improved planetary development of the new AI(congrats!) playing a mixed factories and labs strategy. I abandoned the game when the Drengin declared war on me and were overwhelming me with their numbers but maybe I should have continue with the game by designing a heavily armored frigate rather than relying on my first strike advantage (less powerful than in DL
In DL 1.2 neutral was my favorite because of the NLCs and auto-terraforming. Then they increased the cost of NLCs from 300 to 500 and required that you research the terraforming techs. In DA 1.6 I'm playing as evil and liking the MCC(for a 100% economic bonus), ASC(for a 50% military production bonus), and powerful evil weapons available early in the tech tree! Edit: I posted this message to a thread about the pluses and minuses of the different ethical aligns but it is also appearing i

You did not say if you were playing DL or DA; the AI is better in DA. Play on Tough or above, align evil, and you will find relations with the good races will start dropping (especially if you don't build a competitive military).
I've been hearing a lot about DA, but I really don't know what DA actually includes/whats different. Can someone let me know? I might go pick it up tonight after work. You'll find the AI does a lot better job of developing their planets in DA vs. DL. Two other major changes were made to nerf human player strategies: (1) players were creating very fast combat and troop transports that could avoid the slow AI fleets, so now engines are much larger and more
When the AI takes one of my planets, it would be nice to be told what tech of mine was lost to them. Who losses planets to the AI!? A few times I've been careless and allowed the AI to sneak attack a planet but their transport never has more than 1BC soldiers so my planet is able to repel the attack with my high soldiering (from researching all the invasion techs and sometimes having the Training Center).
I never claimed I'll attack his main warships with these frigates. I understand. I was just explaining that in that game, playing on suicide with mixed factories and labs my production was far behind that of the AIs. I did not have enough manufacturing capacity to quickly build the numbers of warships I needed (to wipe out all the stacked fleets in a single turn using the first strike advantage) or the research capacity to quickly research the defenses I need
One new DA feature that is hard to find and is not explained in the tutorial videos is the ability to launch your ships from orbit in any direction rather than always in the bottom right corner. Directed launch often makes the difference between colonizing a planet this turn or the next; which can (and in my games has) made the difference between the AI or I colonizing the planet. I could not find the new controls for the directed launch and also tried launching when my orbiting ship was in
it took me a while to see all the new buttons on the DA UI, but i think that testifies to 1) how little read (or look for) instructions, and 2) how seamlessly they weaved the new features into the existing UI. Mascrinthus: but the Drengin had dozens of fleets all stacked on top of each other. Iztok Bitenc: If I face Drengin, I ALWAYS research armor up to Superior Duranthium. A frigate with just 2 weapons and 6-8 such armors is indestructible by those Super Dominator corvettes. In one game I just parked two of such ships close to that horde of corvettes, and Drengin in their turn promply sent all of them after my ships. Despite I turned off combat viewer it took the
