I havent played the game, but my biggest worry is that there wont be enough "randomness" from one game to the next. I have ideas on what I would like to see in the game to increase the "uniqueness" from one game to the next, but its annoying when someone who hasnt played the game starts posting ways to change it, or things to add to it So I was wondering if, instead, some of you who have

Im pretty sure that the extra stuff is only available to people who ordered Online. Im not sure if everyone is aware of that our not... kinda sucks cause I had to preorder at my local store But oh well... im sure the modding community that will crop up with this game is gonna provide plenty of extra ship design peices
Some pretty good stuff I can see where those of you who prefer/like the existing races are coming from. Normally I am totally bored by the stock races/characters in games when I can create my own, but Im digging the backstories and uniqueness of the races in GC2 and I think I might give them all a shot. My first custome race is going to be "The Republic of Texas".. a rebel human faction (from Texas of course) that too
So I imagine there are a good number of other people out there like myself. People who live for the chance to custimize their race/character/vehicle/whatever when they play games. I love adding my own personal flare to things With that in mind.. I was wondering what your first custom race will be like in Gal Civ 2? What will its name be? what kind of ships will you build and
So long as it isnt ONLY available on DVD.. i dont care if it is 12 CDs (glad it isnt though heh) This rapid transition towards DVD is kinda scary.. I dont have a DVD drive at this point and dont have the money to get one right now either... already one games i have wanted have only been available on DVD. I may have to start scrounging for a DVD drive before I miss out on a really good game.
I havent played the game yet... but a thought. If before it gave you one tile for 20, or 1 tile for 15.. and you want to switch it to 1 tile for 10, and 2 tiles for 10.. that may work with the lower PQ planets..but what happens when you find a higher PQ? I mean..if you get a planet that has 20... you will either have 2 extra tiles..or 4 extra tiles.. that seems to be a bigger bonus than the designers originally intended this to have. So how about if you switch
It will be out in february. At least you are getting to play the game.
I cant play the game, seeing as my comp is currently busted and wont be fixed until next month. So in my spare time I find myself considering how I might enjoy playing the game, based on all the things ive read about it. And I was wondering, is it possible you think for a player to focus mostly on the defensive techs.. and create a ship which doesnt pack a whole lot of firepower, and cant move very quickly.. but is very hard to kill and is ideal for protecting the players
If that is how it works.. yah I hope that is changed. If I am trying for a technological advantage.. I dont want to see everything I worked for ruined because a minor race decided to pop up. Seems it would be much better if the minor race took all the techs from the middle race.. or at least the race at #3 or so on the tech ladder.
Thanks again for the info Yarlen.. ill keep in touch with my Gamestop. Boy it sucks living in the boondocks .. the price you pay for a college education. And to think I could still be working at Wal-Mart... i may even be a night manager right now. *sigh* (hehe)
Checked at the gamestop here in my town (College Station) as well as the Gamestop's in Houston.. and none of them have Galactic Civilizations II in their computer.. which means they cannot do preorders. EB in Houston has it in their computer.. the Gamestop Webpage has it for preorder.. but the actual Gamestop stores... no dice. Just thought I would let yall know in case there was some fopah somewhere that was keeping Gamestop from carrying the game.
I just read that you guys at Stardock are taking care of your own advertising and such. I wanted to recommend that you get in touch with Gabe and Tycho over at Penny Arcade (www.penny-arcade.com). I imagine yall have probably heard of them.. but in case you havent.. they are an online web comic that reaches millions of gamers every monday, wednesday, and friday. In order to "keep it real".. they only advertise for games that they are excited about..or enjoy playing.. or
ahhh.. Thank you for the clarification Yarlen.. Ill go put in my preorder today.
is there anyone in charge who could clear up how the whole preorder thing works? im ready and willing to preorder at gamespot if it will net me the extra stuff .. honestly Ill probably preorder there anyway.. soon as I get my comp back an im sure ill be able to play (im on ****heap right now).. but id just like to know how the preorder items will be distributed.... do i have to go through certain channels? or can I preorder from the store h
well from what ive read.. gaining experience only increases ship HP... that was according to the posted manual anyway. And im aware that you can upgrade the ships.. but I think my friend was looking for something more along the line of "unique bonuses" for your best (or surviving) units. I dunno.. im not playing the game so I cant really comment on what would be nice to have in the game or not.. so dont mind me .
I was explaining this game to a friend of mine..trying to get him interested in it.. and that was his main complaint. He likes strategy games that makes him "connect" to his units. I was telling me stories about a game he used to play called "Fantasy General" where a unit gains experience.. and eventually he would have a handful of units that had been with him from the beggining.. they were "lower tier" units but their experience made them stronger than his higher tier units.. and s
that sounds great to me.. i mean.. if minor races were taking over every game it would be one thing.. but that bit of randomness will add some replayability to the game.
ok.. ran over to my Gamestop tonight and you cant get it from the store. Drat .. looks like im gonna have to live without the extra ship design parts. Hopefully this game will have an active modding community adding in new stuff on a regular basis though.. so no biggie. Thanks for your help.
Great! Thanks . One more question... Will they give me a preorder disk or something like that? or is there some other way that I have to go about getting the preorder items? I just want to make sure that I get whatever it is I need when I preorder.
Sorry if this is a double post, I posted this once but it hasnt shown up, im not sure if I hit the wrong button or something and deleted it instead of posting it. Anyway, im ALSO sorry if this question is answered somewhere, ive looked around the site as best I can but im on a dial-up connection and a slooooow Labtop for the next couple weeks and I just couldnt handle the load times any longer. My question is this. I am real excited about GCII, and I saw that if you preord
